Yes, Thomas Dolby is a genius! I'm so thankful to Thomas for doing this Dan Hicks song...the original is amazing and so is this one!! I love all the different layers and *feeling* that just oozes out of this piece. If it wasn't for Thomas, I would never have heard of Dan Hicks or the late great Ofra Haza...two amazing musicians, just like Thomas Dolby.

Who else was covering Dan Hicks in the 80's? This album was released in Feb.'84. I was driving in freezing rain in Burke, Va. and WHFS played Hyperactive! for the first time. I had to pull over, to concentrate on the song, not my driving. Bought it at Penquin Feather that night, and my friends and I were addicted to it immediately. Funny, considering we were real Metalheads at the time. Mr. Robertson's work is very dear to me. If one gets a chance give Hicks a try.

he did it great, but this is the one and only version for me.

Glad to run across this on YT.

I've listened to many versions of this and I really think TD does it best.

His voice is seductive, the tempo sensual and the change in voice later surprising in intensity!

The instrumentals bring a nice counterpoint.....

My Suggestion: Play this some night when you have a date, ask them to dance, by candlelight, with the right mood...see what happens!

it's "2010", this tune still sounds as mezmerising and hauntingly beautiful as the day this album came out, but then again every song on this album is a gem! i never get tired of listening to it
