It's not a traditional monster flick. They have always been "introduce monster, have some build up, big monster rampage scene, end scene" with some drama to mix. In this the monster comes out of nowhere and thus, no one has the first clue about it. It takes a kind of story within a story aspect. For me, that scenario made it awesome, I don't think it would be a waste of cash to go see.

I depends on whether or not you're know how a story can be told in a different way. People who don't seem to have paid attention in their basic literature classes altogether agree that the movie was crap. Those who show any sign of intelligence and like watching a different way of story-telling and aren't bothered by a shaky camera LOVED it. I thought it was great, but you've gotta be able to follow the real story in this.

Great movie. All of the complaints I've seen against it are about things not being clearly layed out, and that is where the wielding of an imagination comes in handy. This mixed a Godzilla flick with 9/11, and all in all they did an outstanding job. It'll be in my library.

I saw CLOVERFIELD today and loved it. In fact I spotted something people sitting next to me did not see! Near the end when the video is flashing back to a few days before, when the camera pans out to the water and the boats, you can see this dark cylinder type object to the right of the screen come in at about 20 degrees from zenith and hit the water. Like maybe it came from space!
