Film cameras arn't obsolete, hence why a lot of people still shoot on 32mm. Film picks up details in the highlights and shadows that digital just couldn't touch... The dynamic range isn't even worth comparing.
I havn't heard of 'chasing tornadoes'. When you planning on going in to production? Currently im a student at the university of westminster studying film & tv production. I want to be a DP though... The RED camera is good, and I definately enjoy working with it, although I wouldn't touch RED lenses with a 10ft barge pole!

@audioception I think there will always be a certain demand for film as it produces a DoF / Grain that is very well suited to some moods / films... So in all fairness i agree with you, yes its becoming less popular - but i do believe there will always be a place for it!
@breakcoma7 15 refers to the number of perforations--i shoot 65mm with a 15 perf pull-down--imax does 120 what? not fps--and check jack tankard imdb OR BETTER YET--go see Sean casey's "Tornado Alley" in 3d when it comes out next year--ACTUALLY SHOT IN IMAX

Im just comparing to the bog standard. A lot of adverts in the UK are shot on 16mm. 65mm has its place too. Baraka is a fine example of this.

Normal film is 35!
and yes, they do shoot 65 and 70... but not 15.. they do 16 and 8.
Also, IMAX does 120.
