i think they did much better with this episode (buffy and giles wise) than in the aired episode. since buffy in the buffy was well... i think worse than cordy hahah, and buffy from movie was hotter hahah by FAR! and Giles is much more professional and watcher like than in the episode aired, the aired he was more laid back and accepting. didnt like the xander and willow character roles though. she did not suit willow! however PROPS! to them all for a job well done, since the show did infact air!
I think the increase in the production value gave more faith to the actors. Any BtVS fan knows that SMG is an amazing actress and IS Buffy, but in this unaired pilot, her acting is not nearly her best, even though much of the dialogue is the same. I think she played a very one-dimensional Buffy here and once the show had promise, she made her far less superficial. Thankfully the writers, actors, & network committed to giving the show a greater depth, otherwise I doubt we'd have 7 great seasons!

@spikesgirl1811 they generally do, pilots have no budget and are meant for the studio to see potential they rarely become the actual first episode and even if they do re-shoots usually happen

This episode only goes for 25 mins, when normally it lasts for 42 mins, and i found it funny when willow burns darla with a cross and walks out thinking shes cool and tough holding a cross. When Buffy staked the vampire it lookd like it wasnt gonna turn to dust but it did, and took a while and when it did it like wasnt messy it was in a nice little pile lol.

Her best role was on the tv show " Sisters " (1991--1996)( which co-starred Sela Ward and George Clooney), as the young Georgia. Her tv/movie career seem to have stopped after losing the Willow role. Variety magazine has an award called the Riff Regan Award to recognize actors dropped from pilots of popular series.
Well, I'm glad someone polished up the script before they started shooting the real first episode. Talk about lame jokes. This was very close to being as bad as the original movie. And also many thanks to the people who decided real music was needed and a less stereotypical high school. Very sorry about Flutie though. That would've worked.

I slightly feel sorry for this Willow though. Imagine looking at the increasingly successful Alyson Hannigan and thinking, "That could have been me". In fairness, her acting is pretty much on par with the others', but AH turned out a lot better and, importantly, a lot more memorable.
Honestly... I think I like this wittled down pilot better... but I was never a fan of the Master as a villain... so anytime he's cut out I'm for it... also Dingoes Ate My Baby is reserved for when Seth Green hits the scene. I'm glad that Johnathon got his little cameo (even in the pilot). I'm glad they cleared up the whole out of scene thing where crosses kill vamps or something... I also like the principal in this one better... more comical... but gotta love Allison Hannigan.

although this willow is ok, but alison haanigan bought a hyperactive awkwardness that is more suited to willow.
plus she introduced the producers to the music that was done in the series opening credits. that set the tone right there.

I am so glad that they didn't use this as the first episode coz Otha wise it wud have been such a crappy series nd I wud Neva hav watched it. I'm so glad that they didn't use this willow and used Alyson instead. Lol :)

best part ov this is seein how much cash is spent on a test episode lol n i fort the effects 4 welcome to the hellmouth were bad enough lukin bak now lol ive never seen this before, i knew bout the pilot obv but i dint think itd b so weird 2 actualy watch it humm well an expeirence i supose all diehard fans shud hav at least :)
