I have had 4 partial complex seizures in the last 3 weeks. Last week I had to hand in my drivers license in Australia is is minimum of 3 years seizure free, before I can try and get it back :( The day after that I had a call from my work to inform me that the management think it's best I don't come back to work unless I am "cured" because it doesn't look good in front of the clients for me to have a seizure.(only had 1 at work anyway) I am devastated.
[Begin] I volunteered to give up my driving completely. I don't want to kill other people. Auras can be just as bad as full seizures resulting in the car going out of control. Thinking back, I realize now that I was likely having absence seizures years before my revealing grand mal. [Cont]
[Cont from] I was driving on some weird "automatic" where I suddenly found myself further along than I should be. It was more than daydreaming. Finally one day a line of cars suddenly stopped in front of me and it seemed dreamlike where I did not apply the brake at all. The inevitable happened. I continued to drive for about 6 years with no incident till I had a full seizure at home with a bad fall. I have not driven for 8 years. [Cont]
{Cont from] It is socially devastating as much as my having to retire early even though I lived 3 blocks from work. I was having seizures even going out to lunch walking 5 blocks away. I can only go outside when I feel "right". I now changed my license from a driving one do one just for ID. I felt it was a responsible thing to do even though I do have a good amount of warning time before an "event". I simply as scared to death of driving as I am of swimming, climbing or skiing.
Great video and considerate to epilepsy people.....I hate driving btw! not all people have the same type of seizures as you said in your video text messening is more harmful then a quick seizure why not furnish people with seizures a ride to like doctors office etc why keep the people with epilepsy home bound and unable to get their needs in life? so many places have no rides for people with epilepsy text messenging people can drive?
I had a major truck wreck just 2 weeks ago. Grand Mal as I was going through an intersection at 5pm. About 100 feet later I crossed over traffic and hit the side of a house. Noone was hurt and I walked away from the wreck. Thank you God!! I had been seizure free for over 3 months..... I have decided to not drive for the next 6 months until I am in "Control".... Life is a bitch...
What you said about "short trips" was VERY true. I slammed into a wall having a seizure going 80 miles per hour, and I was less than 5 miles from home. Wear that seatbelt! It saved me.
I have Epilepsy but I'm not aloud to drive until someone takes me places. Sometimes it makes me upset :(

Sounds like your employer has provided you grounds for a wrongful termination suit.

Dr. Fisher, Great video! Excellent way to explain this very sensitive issue. I appreciate your honesty, and straighforwardness.
