There is absolutely nothing wrong with community college. aside from Sarah Palin I think I would trust a community college grad over an IV league grad.
Not that every Ivy League graduate is smarter than every community college grad, but an Ivy League education speaks about the intelligence of the person. It is not that we are comparing Palin's degree to Obama's, but that Obama graduated cum laude from Harvard and was editor of the Law Review while Palin went to 5 different colleges to eke out a degree. One was able to succeed at the highest level while the other barely made it across the finish line.
Getting good grades in any school is worth bragging about. We both know that most IV league schools let people in based on how many wings and buildings their family has donated in the past not how smart they are...see George Bush jr. I was not comparing Palin to Obama but if you want to, I don't care.
I agree. I am very proud of the grades I got and I did not attend an Ivy League school. You are stretching the truth about Ivy League Admissions. Most of the students at those schools get there on merit. But yes, money and tradition put a lot of people who don't deserve to be there into those universities. There is no way W. would have attended Yale had not his father and grandfather gone there. And Gore would not have gone to Harvard had his dad not pulled strings. It works both ways.
I'm not stretching the truth that much. Sure they have programs that let people in based on merit but not that many. I have given lectures at Harvard and Brown and the students there are not much smarter than someone who went to state college. The only reason you get in is based on if you can afford it.
I agree with you there. My son, a junior in high school, has a extremely high GPA and has already racked up a semester's worth of college credits. But will he be going to an Ivy League school? No, we can't afford to send him there. But there is a difference between be able to afford it and basically buying your way in. 5 or 6 years from now, when he graduates from college, no one will be able to say he is not as intelligent as people at Yale or Columbia, etc.
If your Ivy League education is provided because your last name is Bush instead of Smith, then I think that is wrong. If your Ivy League education is provided because you have the grades and your parents can afford it, then I don't think that is wrong.
Look about 60% of the Ivy league schools get paid in full by parents ($200,000+/- for 4 years). The admissions office knows what pay grade the kids parents are in and that plays a big roll on if they get in or not. Getting into these schools hardly has to do with getting high SAT scores and good grades. The fact of the matter is a kid who gets a 4.0+ GPA and has a 2400 SAT score will still get looked over because their parents make 35k a year.
Do your research. They're called both. Originally it was 4 schools in this elite gathering of rich&smart colleges and they where called IV (roman numeral 4) League. It was the idiots who started calling it ivy league.

If I were to be honest about Sarah Palin she does not qualify to be Vice President. She may be a good mother, wife, or friend. I've actually seen video of her in Alaska, as governor, and she was certainly competent for that position.
I believe that she was brought in as a puppet to get votes. I think she drew on her past and behaved like it was a beauty pageant. I don't believe she is an idiot, but as a vice presidential candidate she is clearly out of her cranial zone.

Not that every Ivy League graduate is smarter than every community college grad, but an Ivy League education speaks about the intelligence of the person. It is not that we are comparing Palin's degree to Obama's, but that Obama graduated cum laude from Harvard and was editor of the Law Review while Palin went to 5 different colleges to eke out a degree. One was able to succeed at the highest level while the other barely made it across the finish line.

Most of the students at those schools get there on merit. But yes, money and tradition put a lot of people who don't deserve to be there into those universities. There is no way W. would have attended Yale had not his father and grandfather gone there. And Gore would not have gone to Harvard had his dad not pulled strings. It works both ways.

I have given lectures at Harvard and Brown and the students there are not much smarter than someone who went to state college. The only reason you get in is based on if you can afford it.

I agree with you there. My son, a junior in high school, has a extremely high GPA and has already racked up a semester's worth of college credits. But will he be going to an Ivy League school? No, we can't afford to send him there. But there is a difference between be able to afford it and basically buying your way in. 5 or 6 years from now, when he graduates from college, no one will be able to say he is not as intelligent as people at Yale or Columbia, etc.

Look about 60% of the Ivy league schools get paid in full by parents ($200,000+/- for 4 years). The admissions office knows what pay grade the kids parents are in and that plays a big roll on if they get in or not. Getting into these schools hardly has to do with getting high SAT scores and good grades. The fact of the matter is a kid who gets a 4.0+ GPA and has a 2400 SAT score will still get looked over because their parents make 35k a year.
