I never seen or heard of a car seat coat before until 2day, do you mind explaining this to me, i seen you put something like about compression. I might need alittle more explaining if you don't mind. I have 2 boys:0)
There is only a slimmed down outline of two layers of fleece behind baby (the only fabric recommended for kids to wear in the winter under car seat straps b/c it doesn't compress like other fabrics) so that the straps can still fit on their chest appropriately and the blanket comes down to cover them completely. Thanks for your input!
The material is fleece so not flame retardent but it isn't required to be so since it is a garment, not a car seat accessory. (I don't like the chemically treated items being on baby anyway).
I know that the mom in the video didn't follow all of the car seat rules--I put her on the spot to make a 1 min. video in the midst of a room full of kids. I do note the errors in my video description but thank you for noticing--the more that know the car seat safety rules, the better!
I think it looks like a great idea for an alternative to people who wont take kids coats off in the car (ggrr) - it looks super cute as well - love the color combo
I was working on a similar design ( mine has sorta 'wings' as well to swaddle in their arms)
I'll have to make one like this for my son next winter although probably not pink.
Re: comparison to Carseat Poncho. My coat offers full body protection from the elements without needing to don mittens, boots or to try & cover the face with a blanket. I tried a poncho with my daughter before creating my coat & found that there was too much bulk behind her head & a huge issue with her taking off the poncho even in a freezing cold car. I spent more time putting it on again & again than I do using my coat. I love the comments-keep them coming!
That is neat - Ive never seen anything like that before. Where do you find those?

That looks like WAY too much padding behind the baby.

Very cute and safer than a bulky coat (is the material flame retardant?) - BUT
Your carseat straps are WAY too loose (you should not be able to 'pinch' them)
The chest clip needs to be at arpit level as well
