  • lovely song very well sung. i have this on a dvd live in san fransisco. the whole dvd is excellent only one supreme song on it. the crowd loved her. she sang every song in her own style. the best ive seen of mary in a long time. now at 67 years old this is an amazing talent. so so fed up of people slagging mary off. no need to do this. no one is young forever . no one . good luck to her she has earned a spotlight of her own .well done to u.

  • The Lady can interprete a lyric. Miss Wilson, we like her

  • I don't think but wish she did!

  • Did she d o a studio version of this song?

  • This song is excellent for Mary's smokey alto voice. I also love "Fields of Gold" and "New York State of Mind". Mary is a classy, beautiful lady. Love her!

  • are u aware that mary wrote a number of records ross has never done this at any time. check supreme releases to check.

  • what a legend here

  • i have lots of music of mary wilson. she was the heart and soul of the supremes.she had a lovely style of her own. she is not trying to be anythink but herself.she has recorded a new cd its brilliant mary at her best.she sings jazz great stuff. why do people compare her to ross.mary has earned her solo spotlight and holland dozier holland wrote for her . that says it all. good luck to you mary you have earned it.

  • I need to clarify from my previous post -- I am talking about Mary Wilson singing lead during The Supremes heyday. Not after Diana Ross left the group. During the height of their fame. That was my point.

  • Diana Ross was always excellent with The Supremes. What I want to know is why this woman -- Mary Wilson -- a member of The Supremes -- never got a lead vocal shot. Even Keith Richards got to sing lead on a Stones track, Ringo sang lead on a Beatles song, and Ben Orr sang lead on a hit for The Cars. Mary Wilson is excellent. Maybe she did sing lead on an LP track? Maybe? Someone educate me. I just don't know for sure. She is just wonderful.

  • @lastrada52 Mary Wilson did sing some ballads during their tours and on the LP's. Even Flo got a shot a that as well. I don't think even Mary would argue that she had a lead vocal voice. Mary's contribution to the huge success of the Supreme's was that of back ground singer. I love her velvety voice and have loved it since I was 5 yrs old. As great as Diana and Flo's voice was, Mary stood out to me! Not only that, she was certainly the most beautiful Supreme to date, and still is!

  • @littletimes - Thanks Littletimes for letting me know. I lost track over the years. When I was younger I wanted to hear the other two Supremes contribute solo work in the group. I guess their solo opportunities came on flipsides of 45's or on LPs. A friend -- a much bigger Supremes fan -- told me they may not sing solo much because they didn't have the Supremes solo "sound." Doesn't matter now, listening to Mary today is good enough and yes, she was the most beautiful Supreme.

  • @lastrada52 You are right on target. Mary did record some leads with The Supremes in the 60s and many more with the group in the 70s after Miss Ross left. Mary was a mezzo and did not have "the sound" that became associated with The Supremes so most of the time she remained in the background doing some great harmonies. But she was and is a great live performer with her bubly personality and good looks. Probably one of the most beautiful women of her generation hence a great asset to the trio.

  • @lastrada52 Yea, this is a great version. Mary should have had a bit more leads in the 60s, but she is heard a bit more on lead in the 70s line up, which really show case her voice. Songs such as, Automatically Sunshine and Touch are really good with her partial lead.

  • A beautiful, heartfelt version. Thank you Mary Wilson. Thanks Littletimes

  • A terrific performance that leaves Judy Collins and Joni Mitchell and everybody else, who has ever sung this, in the dust.

    @jazzscherzo Don't bother waking up.

  • Mary is in her element her - a torch song singer - she has the voice - and delivery for this type of song. The band is not that great but Wilson soars above them. I would love to see her in more becoming and less snug gowns.

  • wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love Mary Wilson.now and forever, like many many others.God Bless you Mary.Youve done so much good for People. You Rock Girl

  • This is Mary's niche......superb! Supreme!

  • For those who didn't see "Mary Wilson's At The Copa" she's back by popular demand from June 22, 2011 to July 03, 2011 at "The Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas Nevada."

Mary, our appointed United States Cultural Ambassador has a show that's part of her world wide tour that represents around the globe our art & culture!

    Mary Wilson THE QUINTESSENTIAL SUPREME!

  • a nice song a very talented singer.

  • There, rant over.

I'm sure all you Diana Ross and Mary Wilson fans will now have ago at me. But i don't care. I ain't gonna loose sleep over it. It's history now. And as much as we would like to change it, we can't. Let's just accept it and move on.

    Peace and Love :D

  • And it's ridicules to say the Diana Ross WAS The Supremes. Not even she would say that. She knows that she was just a part of what became the world wide phenomenon that was The Supremes. She isn't stupid, nor is she that arrogant.

  • But there not. Diana and Mary's feud started in The Supremes. Diana wanted to go solo and was prepared to do anything. Mary i suspect wanted to keep the group together. And i would say that Mary and Diana could have been a little more tolerant of each other. They could have made it work. But unless they do an interview TOGETHER we won't know why they don't get along.

  • Now i am not a saint here. Many accounts ago i used to hate and bash Diana like there was no tomorrow. But i did some reading and discovered that actually, aside from being a complete Diva, and quite high maintenance, she isn't a bad person. It's funny really, Both Mary and Diana are complete Diva's and to be frank can be complete bitches. They should be the best of friends.

  • Admittedly Mary cannot sing some of the Supremes songs as well as Diana. But that doesn't warrant comments like "she was never a has been. shes nothing. shes scum. She's fat and ugly and deserves to die" That's bad enough. But Roxylucy you should be ashamed of yourself. Insinuating that Mary killed her son while "sucking his dick" is sick and disgusting.

  • @RedRoosterRoadWHY IS EVERYBODY SO CONCERNED ABOUT PEOPLES PRIVATE LIFES,ITS NONE OF OUR BUSINESS......YUP,THERE ARE SOME REALLY EVIL PEOPLE ON YOU TUBE....THANKS FOR TELLING IT LIKE IT IS

  • Stop bashing Mary and Diana. Diana is a superstar. She has made great music and i for one am not ashamed to say that i have warmed to her. She has had countless number 1's and can now retire a happy woman. Mary hasn't had a solo number 1. But that doesn't mean to say she hasn't had a good career. She was in the Supremes and now she tours singing there songs. She doesn't care if she only fills a quarter of venue, she cares that people took the time to come see her.

  • 12 years ago Wilson reported that her income was a million a year, given inflation and her steady increase in popularity, that's probably a couple of million now. I wonder how many other background singers make that today? My guess is she is the only one. Big solo star or no she remains a celebrity, a presence and a force for change in the music industry and the world. Not bad for 47 years after "Ooh baby, baby"

  • @utubeme98 You couldn't have said it any better! Mary will always be a wonderful celebrity and very gracious. I will see her eveytime she comes to San Francisco!

  • @utubeme98 SURE YOUR RIGHT....SHE,S MARY,NEED I SAY MORE?

  • @utubeme98 she earns a million a year off the back of diana ross still a good backing singer but nothing else

  • @willtomb Mary Wilson is a superb vocalists. She hasn't sung with diane in over 40 years. Why are you trippin and showing your ignorance?

  • @willtomb True. Mary did get rich on Diana's back, but at the same time while Mary was on Diana's back, so too was Diana on Mary's back getting rich!

  • This is good, but the styling and phrasing are an EXACT copy of the older Joni Mitchell performing the song.

  • Great phrasing, great artistry, sing it Mary! Listen to her story.

  • i love her voice. i just wish the drummer would stop playing the crashes so bloody loudly.

  • A song that only Mary could sing with such conviction. Love you Mary!

  • why do people have ahard time accepting the truth I LOVE MARY BUT DIANA ROSS JUST HAD THE IT FACTOR!

  • Mary, I just enjoyed your show at the rrazz room. You brought tears to my eyes with this song. The best thing one can give you are your tears. I thank you.

  • This version is great...

  • She is baaaadddd ok? Gone Mary! You are one of the greats!!!!

  • She needs to put this on her album when it comes out. This type of song really fits her voice. Too bad Motown didn't capitalize on her and Flo's talent. The only problem I have with Mary singing this song is that.....my voice is missing in the background1

  • This is the first time I've knowingly heard Ms.Wilson, and I have to say I'm blown away. This interpretation of "Both Sides Now" is simply breathtaking. She's a brilliant performer.

  • littletimes! thanks for posting. great voice and video. mary mary quite contrary....very soothing and emotional.

  • I wish she would record this song. It makes me tear up. Her version is beautiful and heartfelt.

  • Sing it from your heart Mary! We love you!!!!

  • Beautiful, God Bless you Mary.

  • Brilliant....

  • some people are sooooo picky!

  • When I first heard Mary sing this song I was blown away. Mary sings this song with so much emotion and feeling. She is a true artist with a special vocal gift. I am proud to say for over thirty years Mary Wilson has been my favorite singer and entertainer.

  • I like this video---nice singing---even despite the screaming from drag queens in diana ross wigs....happy christmas to everyone.

  • i really like this version of the song...well done Mary

  • Paul51 - You have to try and understand that Mary is not and has not tried to reach some stardom than she has already reached in her earlier years. She is just living her dream of singing and performing. The fans of Mary begin way back in the old days and they appreciate her in keeping the Supremes alive from the time Diana left until 1977ish. mary is to be comended for all that, not Diana!

  • @littletimes I agree, Mary is not trying to reach high stardom, she's just trying to make a living like all of us. Also, I really appreciate her keeping the Supremes legacy alive. After all, the rest of the group seems to have dissed the Supremes. Thanks Mary!

  • @littletimes YOU ARE ALSO RIGHT MARY,S BEEN OUR STAR FOR OVER 40 YEARS,SHES WONDERFUL

  • Mary's vocal isn't bad, but there's just nothing to it . . . nothing that grabs you. She looks nice.

  • Roadmercy - out you go! If you can't act like an adult, go play with the children!

  • Comment removed

  • p.s. mary's fan(atics)s do need to face the facts. mary isn't even a has been at this point. she's a stone-cold NEVER BEEN.

  • He (Roadmercy) is here because he is bitter that Mary Wilson has succeeded way beyond expectations some had for her! What else could she have possibly done to elicit such strong, negative responses from "a detractor". It means nothing because Mary is a bona fide music legend!

    0

  • If Mary succeeded beyond expectations those expectations must have been extremely low. She is a solo so-called recording artist who never had a hit record on her own, who hasn't had a recording contract since God knows when, and who has self-sabotaged her way down to zero credibility within the music business.

  • But she still manages to make a luxurious living as she rightfully deserves even though unlike Diana she doesn't have numerous career awards under her belt and a formidable amount of hit records as a solo artist, or a huge fan base. That is to be commended cause she is still living her dream quite well.

  • For the same reason you reply.

  • Roadmercy, you are a dirty asshole.

  • Roadmercy has been blocked!

  • @DetroitD60 GOOD! block.

  • @roadmercy I don't know what your talking about. Mary isn't about reaching super star dome like Diana. She isn't all about number 1's. She just wants to sing the songs and try and make people happy.

  • roxylucy language is no worse than detroitd60+. if you block roxylucy don't forget to block detroitd60+.

  • a lovely version....u sound a little like joni too. (' ',)

  • Mary Wilson sounds and looks wonderful.

  • I agree. Keep it up Mary, I have to wonder why sme people bother to listen much less comment when they know nothing of which they speak including of their own ignorance.

  • Are you serious? She sounds wonderful?? Lord help us all.

  • RoxyLucy, name calling will only get you blocked!

  • Could you remove Roxylucy's disgusting comment below? Thanks.

  • remove RoxyLucy

  • And what of DetriotD60's consistenly vile commentary? THis person has the most vile mouth on Youtube.

  • HAHAHA! You don't get to Mary and you don't get to me. You're nuts. Go back to wear you came from.

  • You just need to face it. It is over for diane. It is Mary Wilson's time now. I'm sure you miss Diane, but hang on to the memories......LOL!

  • DetroitD60, were you high when you wrote your comment?

  • You , paul51 are one dumb, low quality mutha f**ker. Why in the Hell would you come to a video of an artist (in this case Mary Wilson one of our legends) for the sole purpose to slam her? You are the worst kind of asshole. Now everyone can see that about you.

  • DetroitD60, you are such a lady. I received a personal message that I would NOT believe what I would hear, so naturally I was curious. You are now dismissed.

  • @ROXYLUCY = Another stupid twat.

  • This is totally awesome!!!!! Fabulessness!!!

  • You make me proud Mary!!!! I love you!!!

  • I'm in tears right now. Lovely performance by the fabulous Wilson.

  • Oh Mary!!! You are in a class and league all of your own. And my GOSH, you choose the most meaningful songs and sing them with such poignance and belief. You and your voice touch me and I hope you only make the rest of the world feel what you do to me. i can tell you if you do, then the world would be such a MUCH better place. Thank you so much for your wonderful wonderful gift, class and distiction.

  • and yo mama is down here under my desk right now on her knees blowing me! She says hello Doolie! LOL

  • Mary Wilson has not had the industry push and support of her fellow group member, Diana Ross, but after all is said and done, Mary can hold her head high and her obvious talent, hard work and chance taking in attempting sophisticated material has paid off big time. I understand from her Fan Club President Carl, that her 2009 night club appearances are even better that the privately recorded "Up Close" CD she released a few years back. Supremes reunion? Just give us more Mary Wilson!!!!

  • Diana had the industry push because her voice had mass appeal. Mary's doesn't and never did.

  • P.S I still Love Diana she a wonderful entertainer but her voice is not what it use to be.

  • Thank God Mary when she was younger and sang with the Supremes had the forsight to sing outside her comfort zone. She is a wonderful singer. She does have a voice,. Truth be told her voice is much bettter than Diana.Patti ,Gladys and Dionne have management to maintain their voices oer the years,

  • You must be kidding. Dionne Warwick's voice is a rallted old shell of it's hey day. Diana still sounds great. I just heard her in CT. People who say Diana canot sing anymore are being silly and illinformed. You are generally right about Gladys and Patti (even Patti's is having some voice issues today). Mary sound better here than on most of her vid posts excepting Here's to Life.

  • A great rendition--from arrangement to performance--of a great, great song. Thanks for posting.

  • If it's okay to say so, I think that the original supremes were three young ladies who had a group dynamic that was very special and that's what people remember from forty years ago. If you look at their videos they were kind of magic together. Mary Wilson may not have been a big commercial success on her own, but I'm glad she's still singing. I wouldn't trade this clip for anything done by phil collins, madonna, or some other marketing success with no voice.

  • Mary Wilson is simply the best and has ALWAYS been my favorite Supreme and one of my all time favorite live solo artist/performers . Her concerts are always top rate.

  • Thank you so much for your comment! I agree with you 100%. I love Mary Wilson and appreciate her for holding the Supremes together. She is no Diane and thank god for that! These videos are so precious to me and I love seeing her much more than I did Diane. Right on!

  • I Love Diana Ross & Mary Wilson,,

But This Is Mary Wilson.... Mary Wilson...

    No Diana Ross,, No Supremes,,,

This Is A SUPREME DIVA Performing..

  • Thank you heartandsoul22. I am with you in all that said. Mary is a legend and is a MAJOR star and always has been to me. The rest can , well you know....... LOL!

  • AMAZING AND SOOTHING!

  • Actually I think it is a sign of this groups greatness and legacy that people even today (some not even knowing them during their performing days) can passionately argue about them.

  • This was absolutely superb! Thank you Mary

  • yALL can bash ross all you want but even Mary calls Diane the Voice of the Supremes and realized if it wasnt for Ross the Supremes would never been as Unigue so you folks need to get a life. Ross WAS the supremes and today folks still pay big to see her. mary knows if not for diane no one would know who the hell she is.

  • You have to admit that Mary Wilson looks and sounds so much better than Ross these days. Go head Mary!!!!

  • mdeinc

    i certainly dont agree

she looks old enough to be diana's mother and when diana is in form her voice melts your heart

this grates from start to finish

she needs to watch what she's eating too

shes giving aretha a run for her money in the weight stakes

  • So what? she's gain weight. Don't expect her to stay that size 7 for the rest of her life as she was with The Supremes. You are in denial. Get over it. Miss Wilson is Fabulous. GO MARY!

  • give it a rest heartand soul

    she's terrible

people who would champion her over diana must have self esteem issues or be blind and deaf

i cant imagine shes making much money singing to a handful of sentimental fools every night

maybe they pay her in food

  • Comment removed

  • Heart and Soul - You hit the nail on the head with your comment! I actually taped all the videos I have on my webpage! Ross can't sing anymore! Mary is the true Diva Supreme! I know Flo is very proud of her!

  • Comment removed

  • Flo would be so proud. Mary was her gurl! I wished Flo was here now.

  • Yes she would Detroit60! She's smiling at Mary for all she has done!

  • You got that right heartandsoul, Mary is victorious . She has won the respect of many and new fans all around the World. Diane Ross is nowhere.....well maybe at the corner bar LOL!

  • What act does Diana put on? If Diana does put on an act, it's called sophistication and class, something Mary has none of.

  • LoveTheSupremes, it doesn't matter. The Supremes are over. Diane has gone her way and Mary has gone hers. Have a happy holiday and may God Bless you.

  • "LoveTheSupremes"? - seems to me that "Loves Ross/Despises Wilson Unreasonably" mite be a bit more of an appropriate screen name for you, baybee..!

  • @supremes70sstyle and obviously you are tone deaf if you like this performance by Mary. She sounds very unprofessional. And I just "love" it when she doesn't carry the note to the end of the bar. Yeah, nice goin' Mary.

  • @LoveTheSupremes - i wouldn't say that i'm tone-deaf, but i would say that you are petty, mean spirited, & that your posts are obnoxious - that sums it rite up, i think...

  • @LoveTheSupremes you don't know a thing about performance, depth, subtext, or nuance.

Go back to watching American Idol.

  • You need to bite the big one! HeartandSoul knows what the deal is. You must be one of those Diana Ross uh hmmmmssss LOL! Asshole!

  • doolie50 you are absolutely correct. Listen to this performance. Her timing is off. Her pitch is sketchy, Her diction sucks in spots. With the phrasing, it sounds like she talks at places where she should be singing. If it wasn't for Diana Ross, Mary Wilson wouldn't be sh*t, so it would be wise for her not to bad mouth Diana like she likes to do so much. In the 70's Mary and the Supremes made money from concerts and TV appearances, not record sales.

  • You gotta be out your F**Kin mind! Diana Ross looks like a male drag queen now that she is an old aged hag that cannot sing anymore from being an alcoholic and drug addict. This is superb by Mary Wilson....say her name!

  • well Mary Wilson of the Supremes was no slouch when it came to drugs and drink

Theonly difference is Diana could afford hers whilst Mary drunk herself out of house and home without a thought for her kids

And just who came to the rescue do you suppose?

Well i will tell you ,

the wicked ,ruthless ,selfish DIANA ROSS

You lot need to stop taking the mind altering drugs too

  • Diana Ross ain't shit ok? Now be quiet so I can listen to a true Diva, Ms Mary Wilson! Thanks

  • True diva? Do you even know the meaning of diva? Mary sounds like sh*t here. Her voice is bland, the timing is off, etc. She speaks when she should carry the note to the end of the bar. Terrible...

  • Beautiful.

  • I agree with you Georgi101. I met Mary for the first time in NY in 1987. I was really amazed at her vocal ability. She was singing her face off. From the woman I fell in love with during the Supremes 1964 appearnce on the Ed Sullivan show, I watched her throughout the years of her career as a Supreme and after. She sings this song so well and I am proud to see the growth and the determination she has given through the years to show that she is a true singer.

  • Wow NICE! She rocks.

  • Mary Your voice is so rich and beautiful. All thar baby doll stuff from Diane is played out. I've been following you since the 60's but when are you singing in the states again?

  • A beautiful song from a most beautiful lady....Mary Wilson!

  • what does Mary do here??? It's not good singing. Better she ask Diana Ross!

  • go mary

show us your great alto =)

    I love it 5*

  • Why bring up Diana's unfortunate incident? But, being that you did, Mary's FORTUNATE she wasn't busted during her cocaine days. NEXT!!

  • mary's solo turn (30 years and still waiting to happen) has been such a fiasco that even if she had been busting during her cocaine days nobody would have cared one way or the other.

  • i meant to write busted not busting. mary hit her apex as ross' backup singer back in the 60s. she was a physically beautiful woman, but she just wasn't superstar material. this is a below average karaoke-quality performance she's giving here.

  • Comment removed

  • you're right about one thing: you're sick.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah sick of you branchwater fool

  • That's exactly how I feel. The others that are praising it must be tone deaf

  • I think Mary Wilson's voice has become richer with age, like a nicely made cello. She is a very nice lady. Many years ago I read her book, Dreamgirl, and wrote her a letter to tell her how much I appreciated it. Months later I got a hand written letter on a nice card, surprisingly, from her. Her songs were in the background of my earliest memories and I'm glad her voice is still here with us and sounding so full and beautiful. Thank you again, Mary, and God bless you.

  • Hey Lets not get ugly about how we feel about 2 special ladies. Diane is still a wonderful

performer and Mary is just as wondeful as Diana. Mary does does and always will give you a great live show. Mary is truly a singer.

  • I saw her opening night performance in Nashville along with the symphony 09/18/2008.....she is absolutely phenomenal!!!! An amazing artist, and person. See her if you ever have the chance!!

  • I am going to see her with the Nashville Symphony on 10/31/08. Does she do well with a symphony?

  • Mary is superb in her symphony concerts. Check out some of my clips of her in a symphony concert from Constitution Hall.

  • Thaks for posting vids of mary, she really needs support like this.

  • Mary truly has a huge fan base! She is still my favorite Supreme! I just saw her in December in San Francisco for my birthday. I could not have asked for a better gift!

  • Mary is a great performer! She certainly touches the audience like Diane Ross no longer can do. She will always be one of my favorite people!

  • Diane sucks!

  • Heavens, no, not at all. It's just a factual observation. That really isn't singing. It's talk singing and she isn't hitting all the notes when she sings.

It's life and honesty and sometimes people don't like it but it doesn't change it.

  • Hell yeah! You wished you were Mary Wilson! People have paid to hear her sing this (and others) from coast to coast. Unlike old tired-ass Diana Ross that screeches a few lines of lyrics and then DEMANDS that the audience sing the majority of the songs! "Talk singing"? There is no such term so stop making shit up. I see you are here listening and watching the great Mary Wilson!

  • Yes, and while Diana was booked at Caesar's Palace, singing with renowned opera singers, and in other elite arenas around the world, Mary was playing the chitlin' circuit and city fairs. LOL!

  • @LoveTheSupremes - You what asshole? You're no better that SOME people that rag on Diana Ross. You're the same. A bitter slag.

  • The trouble with this is that it really isn't singing - it's talking/singing. She can't hit all the notes. Maybe if it were done in a different key she could do it.

  • She sings beautifully, much, much better than that hoarse throated, has-been,drunk called Diana Ross you love!

Mary Wilson is the Supreme Survivor and you just can't stand that. You'll have to live with the fact!
