The noise, the noise, the noise....screaming slaves....and it's me....it comes from within, and I want to destroy it....it consumes my thought and it makes no sense....please, God, please, damn that voice....take it away before I consume myself....suicide....damn that voice, God, condemn the screaming slaves back to the Hell they came from....God, save me.
@jumeau1 Compare this to the Woodstock performance -94, im not saying this is great show, because it really is, im just really concerned in retrospective about Mr Reznor's health back then.
He must've been down a shitty road writing The Downward Spiral.
Still he goes up there, performing his old songs like it was yesterday. The difference is that he looks like the married man and father he has finally become. Life can be quite a stroll :)
@MrValzen I like the album version but this one is so much more modern and in a way simpler because its not so heavy on electronics and sampling. This one is straight up ROCK!! I do wish there was a professional recording of this version that would make my day.
you guys should google interpretations of The Downward Spiral, it's very interesting what people can have discovered about that album, it's much deeper and sophisticated than people think
The 19 that dislike this don't know what's up. You can see the talent and energy that was put into this performance. That's one thing about Trent and NIN, they always put on the best shows and give it 100%.
The drummer (Ilan Ruben) has his own band now called "The New Regime". Check him out..he's something of a prodigy. Youngest drummer to be on the Woodstock stage (he was 11) and is a classically trained pianist, plays guitars, and vocals too. Craziness..
loved them from when I first heard them in 88-89 seen them four times, met them all once, have a drumskin and signed photos framed and on my wall.two words.fuckin genius.love them
What makes NiN for me is that they don't just bang-out some heavy crap, and that's it. Trent usually manages to put these great musical breaks in, unexpected and really effective. It shows that he really knows what he is doing, and is a brilliant musician and composer.
What can I say except this is badass!! Like this song so much I did a cover on my YouTube...check it out!! Have all Trent's albums my favorite artist ever!! My current favorite song is "The Wretched", probably do a cover of that soon...thanks for this post!!
I remember covering this song a year ago. Listen to last vocal part on the actual song and listen to trents voice n how he edits it all. It's pretty industrial
God damnit... 2 weeks ago I went on youtube to check on an acoustic version of Hurt... I knew that Trent Reznor had written & composed some cool songs, incl. Hurt, Closer etc. But since that day (I think I spent all the afternoon on this website) I have bought 2 NIN albums, watched tons of pro-shot live videos, listened to NIN´s music on my way to the supermarket, the bus station, the university - and I could watch the video of this amazing performance over and over and over again!
@UlrikBay similar story. I saw nine inch nails during the With Teeth tour when i was fifteen. I didn't even like nine inch nails at the time, didn't wanna go but i did and it was one of the greatest things ive ever seen. im really glad i went to that concert.
@UlrikBay By now I´ve made it and got almost every NIN LP (except Year Zero + remix album). I love it and I´m still amazed by the variety and complexity of this music. Different style for every time of the day. Though I still have to get used to the synthesizer noise of the Year Zero live performances (coming from the guitar rock side of music it was a long way to appreciate synthesizers in the first place) - but sooner or later I´ll probably buy that album, too.
thanks for all the thumbs up everyone. apparently I am not the only one one who sees this vid for what it is,,,something that can change ur life. I havent been on in a while, but to see that many thumbs up...thats a testament to trent and his band, not me. As I said, I wish I could run sound for this guy. but I am now and old drunk loser. i would sleep under his bus to mix for him. I am glad that there are people in the world who know art when they see it. We are a dying breed aren't we.
@mdfodor91 There are plenty of us out there dude, NIN fans just arnt the gaudy, trite people who show up to listen to the bullshit music that's on t.v. or the radio. Fans of NIN know the value of having a heart and feeling something real when they listen to music.
