If you're respectful & mindful of the law & willing to go through all the process of getting a gun what's the issue. Its not like anyone can't get a gun. You might take the time to compare the U.S. with other countries. There are a lot of them, so it's not really helpful if you only pick dictatorships and 3rd world countries.

You say that guns have prevented a lot of crimes, but they also killed a lot of people, and I think that count a little more than a shoplifting kid.
