Wikipedia doesn't always have all the facts. If you look at their list of recordings for HANK WILLIAMS you will not find several that my father had, a 78rpm we played over and over on the Victrola, "I Dreamed About Mama Last Night" and "Mansion On A Hill" just to name two. There are others. Most often singer-songwriters who make it big write and practice their songs long before they are ever known to us.
"I Told You So" is a 1988 song written and originally recorded by American country music singer Randy Travis from his album Always & Forever. However it was first recorded on his "Live at the Nashville Palace" album under his stage name "Randy Ray". It become a local hit and one of his most requested songs at the club. In 2007, the song was covered by Carrie Underwood on her album Carnival Ride.
Ok, there is something here that doesn't make sense. This video is claimed to have been from a TV appearance from 1983, and he is singing "I told you so". It is a well known fact that Randy Travis wrote the song "I told you so" in 1988. So how is it possible that Randy Travis is shown here singing a song in 1983 that wasn't written by him until 1988?
@pittresident your well know face is well know WRONG. Randy recorded "I Told You So" for his 1983 Nashville Palace Live album (under Randy Ray as seen here). Randy did re-record this in 1988 for his Warner Brothers' album "Always and Forever".
@pittresident lol on yea wikipedia then it has to be true. Not sure how he wrote in 1988 but recored it in 1983. That's just how amazing Randy is. lol
@pittresident This song was released on the album "Always and Forever" on May 4, 1987, so it was not written in 1988. Plus he was a songwriter, and songwriters sometimes write songs years before they are recorded and released.
@pittresidentI don't know but I lived in Nashville back then and kept up with lots of country music and never knew he was Randy Ray first...He is so good but we don';t hear much about him nowdays. Are we sure he wrote this song?
Who, watching this when this aired, would have imagined that 20-some years later this song would still be a hit and redid by Carrie Underwood. Randy is simply the best.
You wouldn't happen to have the stump creek band that played there would you

Wow. I didn't know he had this in his act that far back. Carrie Underwood does a good job on her version, too.
