@blastoise114 The song ashes to ashes used the line "You know Major Tom's a junkie" and like Eminem's alter egos and characters, that album used space travel to symbolize him being high on drugs, most likely heroin. "The papers" wanting to know about his fashion tastes are other junkies and "ground control" is most likely a friend or dealer. That's why "Tell my wife I love her very much." is him saying goodbye before deliberately over-dosing.

i've listened to this song a million times, never really grasping the lyrics, as i'm generally more of a "music" guy. i guess. I always knew it was about an astronaut, but never really "knew" the words. Was thinking about this today, and read the lyrics as i listened and really loved the story in them. In less talented hands, a song about an astronaut who's stranded in space could be very corny. Great jam!
