  • I can't wait to see this kid as president.

  • This kid is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why do we even care what religion or government thinks about our relationships? Get government out of marriage and we will all be better off. More freedom for everyone. Government free marriage now!

  • A person is a mortal being regardless of sexual orientation. No mortal has the right to deny another mortal any human rights. Gay marriage is just as valid and important as is any heterosexual marriage.

  • Esa es la juventud que necesita el mundo. Una dispuesta a cambiar las cosas, a defender no solo sus derechos y causas sino las ajenas. Una juventud solidaria y con sentido humano. ¡Qué admirable!

  • Sorry but this youngster is manipulated by other people who are shaping and influenzing him on gender. Tolerance is good, but a kid shouldn't have a firm stand until he or she is mature enough. I highly doubt this speech was his own writing. I don't see why anyone would push a kid on this issue at such a young age.

  • @MrGodsreal

I find it interesting that you would think that he is being manipulated but the millions of children around the world who are being indoctrinated into religion aren't. If you believe a child can't form an opinion on if two people love each other should they be allowed to get married, then you can't believe that a child should be able to make a decision on whether or not a god exist. The difference is if he was manipulated it wasn't with threats of hell.

  • Great job, Ethan!!!

  • God I feel bad for this kid, what ever happend to open minds? and this kid is only 7 or 10, he doesn;t understand this and is very much so the marionette for LGBT groups.

  • The kid has EMPATHY and you feel bad for him for it? Dude. He felt bad for his neighbors who can't marry each other. Thats why he was motivated to do this. I should be feeling sorry for you if you feel sorry for him. I'm so proud of him.

  • Well yes because this young man is not educated on the subject and therefore is being influenced by what people are telling him.

  • You dont' need an education to stand basic fairness. If straights can marry, so will gays. BASIC fairness is understood by children and adults alike.

  • Like I said, it is very likely that he doesn't know and hasn't reserched the other side of the story and is being told what to think by his parents or a trusted adult friend. The issue isn't whether or not he should understand basic fairness by now, the issue is whether or not he understands both sides and researched the other sides claims as well as the pro gay marrage side's claims.

  • You know he hasn't? He mentioned those people who think differently. You're assuming if he'd heard the anti-gay side that he'd side with it, which is not likely, since that side's arguments are abstract; untangible. The anti-gay side doesn't consider how it impacts the gay families (including the children, who will be adopted regardless of marriage protection). It only considers it's own moral opinion, and then assumes it's "best" for society. There's a reason why the APA oppposed prop. 8.

  • Have you considerd that like most sciensts, the APA is very liberal and will say vote no on 8 anyway, even if they studied the density of rocks, they would say no on 8.

  • You have to attempt to politically label these non-partisan, science based organizations becuase they don't agree with you. How is the APA "liberal." I'd like you to give me examples. Protecting gay people's CIVIL RIGHTS is not "liberal" or "conservative." They have produced numerous studies showing the negative impact that these anti-gay measures have on people (even those not directly affected by them, like friends or family of gays, and gays in other states included).

  • I'm not trying to label anyone, I'm just saying that because most scientists are liberal in the first place, the APA even if the studied rocks would say no on 8 .

  • That's circular logic. Read the comment below this.

  • You're actually correct. Every study seems to show that educated people tend to be pro equal rights. Education seems to trump race, gender, age, or any other defining characteristic when predicting how groups and individuals will feel on this issue.

  • Why do you think most scientists are liberal? Becuase science most often supports the liberal political positions! Scientists are scientists first, then liberal. You need to give examples that the APA is NON-LEGITIMATE. I bet you won't be able to. Prop. 8 was, and will be until the day it's struck down, ILLEGAL. It violates the 14th Amendment, both the Equal Protection and Due Process clauses of that amendment. That's why the Bar Association ALSO opposed prop. 8, as well as the NAACP!

  • Is science always right?

  • It's not about "right." It's about what IS. We ALWAYS base government policy on science. If science changes, then so does our policy. Whether science is morally "right" or "wrong" is irrelevant to public policy. Morality is and always will be subjective.

  • Comment removed

  • What do you mean irrelevant? I'm sure you remember after the cramer rant that there was a ban on certain words used in rap music becuase of morality [as well as pc],do you think that's irrlevant?

  • No, I don't remember that, and if the government has such a ban, it's unconstitutional. Morality is yes, still irrelevant.

  • If morality is irrelevant, then why do we have a drinking age law?

  • Becuase there is a state interest in keeping those without fully developed brains from consuming alochol becuase they become a danger to society when they do consume it, and they are not fully aware of the consequences of drinking, so the state places an age restriction. Keep em comin man. All laws either have a practical/scientific reason, or are unconstitutional.

  • Is religion? Religion has justified slavery, spousal abuse, countless wars, and 9/11. Science may not be perfect, but at least they admit their flaws.

  • Neither is religion. Nothing is. But Religion provides one thing science can't.

  • Hatred for people that are different?

  • No,hope for a better tommrow.

  • ...mass genocide due to ignorance and stubborn intolerance? Yeah, that's some funny form of providing...

  • Comment removed

  • Also many authentic miracles of healing and forgiveness have been credited to God with the intercession of the saints.

    In 1864 a German immagrant in St.Louis

was struck by a metal bar at a soap factory and diagnosed with turbercilosis, but when he venerated a first class relic of St.Peter Mary Claret, a priest who devoted his ministry to slaves, was then later cured.

  • Religion itself isn't bad, but the people who choose to misunderstand to where blood is spilled are bad even if they are Catholic.

  • @ChristainPatriot01 "Even" is a funny way of putting it. It assumes that Catholics are pure.

  • Comment removed

  • What I'm trying to suddgest is that thou religion isn't bad, but some of its followers[or at least they call themselvs] misunderstand even ignore valuble teachings while trying to promote others[at which they fail at automaticly] can we agree on that? And that science cannot be used as a guideline for life, I mean how can you apply so and so when figuring out what is right or not.

  • @ChristainPatriot01 It is true, but how would you define who is right and who is wrong? There are so many people who come out with new "proofs" every day that their religion is correct vs. another, and vice versa. Also, note that Aristotle used science as a guideline for life, not just to specifically describe the world, but for values based on principle findings of science. While not entirely flawless, it is no different than using a religion to define morals.

  • But how isn't not different?

Can science tell how to love?

  • How do you tell? That's my main question.

It can. It depends if we need to be told how to love, however. What science can tell us is based on our interpretations of it - everything is. Just as people interpret the Bible for meaning, one can reasonably take any piece of science and go all which ways with it in the basis of morality.

  • Just out of curiosity, how much of the pro-marriage equality side of the argument does the religious right explain to THEIR children when brainwashing them to hate people different than they are?

  • move over Obama!

  • WHAT A BOY! this is so awesome it made me quite emotional! wow if only all kids were this awesome!

  • This is amazing!!

    He's so young too!!!

  • YOU are THE MAN!

thank you Ethan! Big hug from Austria!

  • wow! this ethan kid is no joke!!

great job ethan! you just blew me away and im only 12.

i have a new hero now and its you ethan. you are definitely the man!!

    cory

  • It seems that the forces of darkness are on retreat

  • Ethan, you are great!

I'm happy we can marry in our country. I hope that you words awake some people. I think it's great that young kids like you knowing that everybody is the same and that there is no different between straight en gay people.

  • Ethan, you are awesome. I wanted to write you a letter personally, but since you are just a kid it makes sense that your contact information isn't available. At any rate, you are an inspiration. I can't wait for the day when everyone celebrates diversity and equality, and when people judge others solely on the content of their character.

  • What else to say? I'm so proud of you and the great parents you have. I wish all straigh parents were like the one's you've got. Perhaps there would be an understandble world. thanks a lot !!!!

  • What a special child, you are such an inspiration! Keep up the good work!

  • LOL. Clearly you have missed the news over the past months. Gays are persuading the mass population, one state at a time.

Or maybe you have missed all the polls in the last few months showing a majority of Americans now supporting gay marriage.

Or perhaps you didn't even watch this video. The next generation supports gay marriage by huge majorities. They aren't accusing anyone of intolerance, they just see it blatantly displayed in comments like this.

  • Great job Ethan, how about for your next cause celeb, you choose to discuss why we live in a society that social engineers policy that grants rights(benefits) to state approved relationships(marriage), but does not hold these same rights(benefits) for single people regardless of their choice of partner.

The (gay) marriage issue seems to be more about materialism than freedom , good luck with that

  • Becuase most of them aren't relevant to single people. While single, you just have your own debt, your own will, your own health care...most of these things are already by default going to deal with family and bloodline...the marriage stuff is an option to include a "significant" other to the individual so that they may transfer those rights and responsibilities from family to spouse.

  • messed up that there arent civil rights for gays and lesbians in America... makes me glad im in the UK somedays though I hope American politicians wake up and realise that homosexuality isn't a bad issue - wars, world hunger, dictators and the poverty are... but i forgot - the gays are the root of evil!!! bullshit! EQUAL RIGHTS FOR EVERYONE!

  • Jesus dude, think. Of course gays are born gay. Would you 'choose' to get discriminated at, while there is a natural and even better choice?

  • There is no proof, you are right. However you need proof that they are not, and that they choose to be that way (which you won't be able to find) before you can discriminate. The burden is on those who discriminate, not those who want their rights.

  • There are gay monkeys and penguins... did they "chose" to be gay too?

  • If a fascist book says that homosexuality is a sin then homosexuals deserve equal rights.

  • Yea, just like putting Jews in camps. Oh wait, that happened before. How did it end? I hope you remember.

  • The Bible should be called The Nazi Mannifesto.

  • hahaha, *thumbs up*

  • Yeah sure I was 11 when I came out of the closet. Nothing ever bad happend to me that made me gay.

I've been gay my whole life. You feel bad for me? feel bad for what?? I'm very happy and I have a wonderfull boyfriend who's always is there for me.

Thank god I live in Holland gays etc are fully accepted here. I've never had a problem with my sexuality. I really hope that one day America can make a real boundary between church and state.

  • the bible says all sorts of shit... including prohibition to wear cotton and eating pork and shellfish.. do YOU follow those instructions?

and how long have you been gay for to know what causes it? What kind of psychology background do you have? because homosexuality has been removed from the list of mental disorders by the american psychiatric association, fyi.

  • did you ever read the bible yourself? perhaps you should reread it if you did. it clearly states to respect life... which you are obviously not doing..... so before you comment check your sources first.

  • The bible says all kinds of crap and it contradicts itself. The bible itself says that even Satan can quote scripture to support his arguments. You know, there are passages condoning slavery, the beating of said slaves, and so on.

  • I have read the bible, and thou it condones slavery, it also stresses rights for the slave ,like he or she is to be freed on the 6th year of labor if he/she wanted to. I have never read such things condoing the beatings of slaves. Unless you yourself are biblical scholar,I;d like to see your proof.

  • I don't have to be a biblical scholar. I would recommend reading the entire bible before deciding to agree with it. Besides, guaranteeing certain rights for slaves does not make slavery in general acceptable.

If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property. -- Exodus 20:21-22

  • That isn't there.

It says there And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before you, that ye sin not. 21: And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

  • Here's verse 22

And Jehovah said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.

  • Psychology is the advanced study of the human mind. The Bible is a book that was in effect eons ago. Psychology is a science. The Bible dictates a religion. See the difference? Most accomplished doctors of psychology SUPPORT homosexuality. The Bible condemns it. In no way are they alike on the matter of homosexuality.

  • what a brave little guy getting up there and saying those things he seems to be taught well and has some good values at such a young age and very well spoken for a kid thanks for the video

  • Bravo Ethan, Bravo.

Some of your statements aren't exactly statistically correct, but the sentiment is.

I'm glad you feel secure and safe enough in your community to speak up for what you believe in.

    BRAVO.

  • I'm so proud of this kid

  • Perhaps the greatest thing I have seen in a long time. This is just amazing.

  • Damn, this kid is.. Whoah. He's one of the people that's going to change the world, definitely

  • Kid owns.

  • children make everything seem so logical, he clearly understands and there is logic behind his opinon. yuh its prolly the opinion of his parents also but that's not the same thing as brainwashing unlike that anti-gay 'confused' ad which came out recently. bleh

and who'd want to ask the person they love to 'civil-union' them instead of 'marry' them?

  • Awesome kid !

    Really good to hear.

  • ..with all the stories about kids bullying each other and killing in the news...what a breath of fresh air that someone as young as Ethan as the integrity and capacity to take on such a controvesial subject....God willing because of children (the future) like Ethan maybe the world will become a better place for all people....kudos to you Ethan...your parents must be really proud fo you....

  • Comment removed

  • whát?

  • No they don't. They don't start it at least. It starts with you. LOL.

  • You rock!! :-D

  • Exactly. If we encourage people with genuine same-sex attractions to marry, then EVERYONE--including even those without same-sex attractions--will only want to marry someone of their same sex and will lose all desire to procreate. After all, being in a same sex relationship is appealing to everyone, regardless of who they find attractive. I mean, I know you or I would be more than willing to marry someone of OUR same sex if it was more socially acceptable to do so.

  • Wish this was true.... then it would be great to do something about the over-population on this earth.

  • Well I think it is true. Tmacangel is suggesting it would happen, and I'm pretty sure he knows a lot.

  • GOOD FOR YOU KID!!!!! WOW amazing....this is the generation who is going to change the world for us ALL!

  • OMG AMAZING!

  • So that boy arranged it ?

    That's what I call confidence. :)

    straight but not narrow,

    Darina

  • THat boy is my hero from now on

  • Excellent!

There are more and more kids teaching the world. It´s 2009 and it´s time to HEAL.

Diversity is the Basis of Humankind.

I hear and I read in newspapers and magazines more and more schools teaching equality and diversity.

Here in Argentina there are newspapers with special suplement about gays, and these´ve helped people to open their eyes to reality and heal.

    I´m so proud!!!

    Peace and Love from Argentina!

    Fernando.-

  • As someone who is LGBTQI, this really means a lot to me. I have tears in my eyes here. What a special little boy. I hope this is a sign of times to come.

  • Comment removed

  • Who do you think you are to decide whether or not two people who love each other can be together? How can you make your granddaughter hold a sign like that? Its closed-minded people like you, darcymayberry, that are truly DISGUSTING.

  • Howcome, stooge? Because I'm saying what you're thinking? Perhaps I should be more like you and articulate my obsessive hatred for homosexuality in a more nuanced way. Perhaps I can express my disdain for these sinners under the guise of "love." Perhaps I can smile to their face but push for anti-Homosexual laws when they're not looking. Then it's a win-win. I get to control their personal liberties, but I save face by continuing to appear compassionate and reasonable about what I'm doing.

  • Thank you.

  • Wow - Ethan is a Hero. We should all RT and post this video - if it's this obvious to an 8 yr old, why is taking so many adults so long to see this?

  • i see a great leadership quality in this little man. :)

And this is an English video so comment in that language please.

  • This is just wonderful.

  • This kid is great. :D I hope he goes on to have a successful career advocating for human rights. :D

  • Now it'd be a really brilliant PR move for Obama if he came to this kid's rally or specifically responded to him on camera. The news media would eat that up and Charlie Gibson would probably name Ethan his person of the week.

  • Obama wouldn't. He's not exactly an ally of the LGBT movement.

  • Or the American people, for that matter. Coughcough single-payer, coughcough.

He and the Senate Democrats will just keep asking us to wait a little bit longer and a little bit longer and a little bit longer for equal protections under the law.

LGB may -- emphasis on may -- see some relief in the next eight years, but the rest of us are well and truly fucked.

  • wow. that made me tear-up. so wonderful.

  • That made me tear up too! and for those that will response that I must be gay, hence have a vested interest, I'm actually straight. It's a question of equal rights under the law.

  • Tears of solidarity! As a lesbian who has been with her partner for 9 years- I do have a vest interest. I am always excited by straight allies. You are so important to this cause. Thank you.

  • Kid, you rock! You can bring change. If the US is a nation of hope, equality and opportunities, the marriage between people of the same sex and rights for gays and lesbians should be done imediatly. Give me a slab of marble and I'll make a statue of you Ethan.

  • This is just awesome, but could some one please get the kid a clip mic the next time he speaks!! lol

  • Little duder, you rule. Keep on fightin' the good fight - we need amazing people like you :)

  • Incredible. This has put a smile on my face - it's simply amazing.

  • Woooooooo Ethan!!!!!! Well done kid!

  • This little guy is AWESOME!

  • This boy gives me hope for our country's future. I'm so proud of him!

  • One word... WOW

What an amazing Inspiration to us all.

  • Ethan is da bomb!

  • That kid is more intelligent on this issue than all Republicans/Conservative Democrats combined.

  • this kid rules

  • Kids seem to have an acute sense of justice and fair play which they will quickly lose in a religious fundamentalist culture. The U.S. is still too dominated by the Jesus loves me, but he cant stand you crowd. May the true and living God bless and keep this kid away from the people who pretend to believe in him. May this kids bravery be an example to all who give in too easily to gods bully followers who in fact have "created in their own image" the false and hateful god they serve.

  • the hope is this boy..........thank's

  • THANKS GUY! Really today you made happy a million of people with your simply words...

    Riccardo ---> Italy

  • Well done, Ethan! Thanks for support!

    Greetings from Poland ;)

  • This is an amazing human being! Ethan you are amazing!

  • The true always win. Ethan is a brilliant example. I'm your fan, boy. You are fantastic.

  • Ethan rulezzzz!!! You're very bright!!

  • This kid is my hero. what an amazing person!

  • that is amazing <3

  • this lil dude is awesome

  • Many thanks from LGBT people in Denmark!

    You rock, Ethan!

  • wonderful .-.

    Brazil loves Ethan! :)

  • Ethan for President 2044!! (2)

  • It is so amazing the fact that a small child has more compassion and love than most adults is.

  • Ethan rocks, ftw@@@

  • What a sweetie :)

So nice to see kids fighting for what's right!

  • Way to go Ethan. MAHALO for your help!!!

  • this makes me hopeful for the future of america - way to go ethan

  • Ethan for President 2044!!

  • WONDERFUL.... Go Ethan.

Let's get rid of all those old men in WASH DC. and elect ETHAN!

  • Go Ethan! You're the reason so many of us are confident that the future will be fairer for everyone.

  • Ethan is awesome.

  • "He was concerned about the issue after hearing about anti-gay remarks on the playground and then learning about a same sex couple in his neighborhood that couldn't get married. 'Everybody is different in a good way,' he said. Ethan believes that if two people love each other that is the only issue to be considered. Ethan took it upon himself to arrange the rally and line up the guest speakers. He admitted it was more work then he thought it would be, but adds it was fun."

  • Well I couldn't expect a self proclaimed Prophet of Doom to understand.

But really, the concept isn't really *that* complicated. Love. How hard is that to comprehend?

  • negative prophetofdoom you would be very surprised what a 9 year old understands. He understands very clearly and is well informed about what love is.

  • Who is to say he has an undersevloped mind. He may well be a genius, with a higher IQ than most adults.

He has researched his info, for his project - that doesn't tell me he's got an underdeveloped mind. Far from it, he is an example of an intelligent child.

  • No - I say he's intelligent because he articulated his argument in a manner befitting an intelligent person.

You stated he doesn't understand what's going on. But how do you know this? The child has researched his work. It may be quite simplistic, but then some things are. Just because he doesn't reinforce the mainstream views of what a child should be like doesn't mean his opinions should be dismissed out of hand.

  • He shows he agrees with lots of citizens agree with, despite being a simple voice pro-minority, often been overwhelmed by heterosexist bigots (and don't tell me that heterosexist bigosts don't exist).

  • No I say he's intelligent bc he actually RESEARCHED his topic (this was for an independent class project - not on gay marriage - that's the topic he himself chose on his own), fully. When you have facts that support your argument - that's intelligence.

  • This makes me smile. His parents aren't even gay which makes it more special. We really do need more Ethan's out there. I'm glad FINALLY a pair of parents raised there child to believe what's right.

Yayyy Ethan! And not a bad speech at all, especially coming from a third grader. Rather impressive actually. (:

  • He sure can speak. And write.

    And have opinions. Awesome. (:

  • What a great kid. He'll go far in life.
