  • Don't get me wrong or anything but when you spoon in cold water you should raise your rod tip slower and then let it fall. But damn, nice fishin spot and also what were you guys fishing? by a channel over some trees or something?

  • i love this lake good fishing all year hooah fellas

  • buddy in the camo is jigging too fast.

  • your a good homeboy man, you got juiced when you boy hooked up and thats whats up. thanks for your service, fruitful, safe fishing.

  • @The530asd Thanks doggie, It was his first time and I always get fired up when I get new peeps addicted to bass fishing. Heck, I still get fired up if I catch one.

  • Jack Chancellor ( a friend and from my home town) won the 1985 Bass Master Tournament. He made the jigging spoon popular after winning this tournament with it.

  • where were you guys fishing? water temps? depth? structure? was this early spring or late fall?

  • I was using a bomber 1oz slab spoon with a feathered treble. War eagle also makes a good jigging spoon.

  • HEY man i enjoyed the video .. and wana know what brand and size of spoons were those.. cause that looked really fun.. and wana try it out.. cause sometimes these bass down here in SoCal just arent feeling the 8inch+ swimbaits durring winter

  • Jason, what spoons were ya'll using? We hit some good bass on a 1/2 oz crippled herring yesterday, and I want to try some different styles before winter gets done. Keep it up bud.

  • Excuse all the bad language, I was only out of Iraq for about 2 weeks so my mouth has not quite adjusted to normal life. :)

  • @jperrego Glad you Care :)

  • what water temp do you start going to the jigs?I'm in the Killeen Area, looks like familar waters.

  • usually around mid to low 50's, the shad determine the method though and not so much the water temp. Once you see the bottom of your sonar fill up it is time to start throwin the jiggin spoon. Go as deep as 60ft, especially on stillhouse.

  • Please visit gonefishingboard . com for pics, vids, and help.

  • nine times out of 10 the hit is in the fall. and dude in camo has too much line out, his spoon aint go'n up well.

  • nice fishing

  • still good eatin but i do my fishing here in Shelter Bay or i get up to the Sac River

  • Would have loved to have seen the one that got away, to bad though! Great video, what spoons were you using?

  • It was on the light side, but I wasn't goin to disagree with my friend this was his first time bass fishing. If you like I can show you a couple of 10's do they have that in NC. They do in CA put they are filled with steroids from the sewer run off.

  • @jperrego WHAT are u talking about LOL I SEEN CA and filled with steroids and sewer run off.. and have to say if ur talking out our california fish.,,, they are pumped with steroids.. we the right kinds of lakes and water conditions and climate which produce HUGE FISH

  • haha yea we call that 2 and a half in NC too haha

  • so you call that 4 pounds ha we call that a 2 and a half in california

  • how u do that?????u let the spoon reach the bottom then u give shock to the line????can't it get stuck in corals???

  • bass seasons over, here in maryland :[

  • hard to say wats better it really depends on location time of day nd wat ur tryin to catch it all depends so u cant really say whats better

  • Just for the record, i enjoy fishing the wal mart special rods.

  • I am really into the the wholw bass fishing scene but I haven't ever used a spoon. Does anybody here think they are better than a spinnerbait. I'm not trying to say they don't work but the whole design looks flawed to me.

  • There isn't a better lure when the fish are stacked deep feeding on shad. A spinnerbait in 30+ feet of water would not be productive, let alone easy to fish.

  • The depth I am fishing is not really conducive to a spinnerbait bite. However slow rolling a 1oz spinnerbait in 20ft of water would be productive if you found fish hammering shad at that depth. The jiggiging spoon is a vertical presentation up to 60ft of water while you are fishing a certain peice of structure, such as a flat, hump, channel swing or deep point.

  • Whats the chances I could get out there with ya'll? Fishing from the shores at blora and stillhouse just isnt doing the trick for me.

  • Slim, since I live in Missouri now. I hung out there on the docks until I forced someone to take me out fishing with them on the boat. Made a good partner, than I bought my own boat.

  • that two and a half pounder that the guy in the army jacket caught fought pretty good I thought he was gonna be bigger

  • I did too, it was foul hooked and he had a flimsy rod, that is why it appeared to give him such a hard time. Those fish get so stacked on deep points when the shad are running deep, it is not uncommon to foul hook a few a day, every once in a while the treble hook on the spoon would be filled with shad as well, the one i missed was probably in the 8-10lb range, you can see the head shake on the rod just before it got unbuttoned.

  • dam it just go to the shore and fish

    XD

  • what lake was this is in?

  • stillhouse hollow, in central texas. It is a little known jewel, it is not uncommon for a 30lb bag to win tourneys there.

  • Do you think Stillhouse will have good-sized bass in the summer?

If so, which lure do you think would be best?

  • Are you still catching fish on other lures or live bait, or is it finding the fish thats giving you trouble?

  • I am still catching fish, i was just spoiled with that particluar rig on that particular lake during the winter. Catching giants on a daily basis. It is hard to believe that little spoon will catch the tens, but it does. I will post a video soon for lake of the ozarks, using the yellow magic these fish are just exploding on the surface for it.

  • Well ive got a suggestion. Go shallower. I had the same problem when i switched lakes. I fished Smith mountain in ca and now cherokee in Tennessee. If its largemouth your after try about 20-25 feet, and your big hybrids and stripers will almost always be in about the same depth, but more roamin the flats directly under baitfish. If you go alittle shallower, during summer, i guarantee you will catch more fish. Also try a different spoon. A white with shiny tape is all i ever use. Hope i help.

  • how deep were you by the way?

  • 35-40feet, i am trying to find a jigging spoon bite at lake of the ozarks in missouri now since I live there, no such luck yet. The conditions are right, just haven't put it together yet

  • fuck yes. i love spoonin.

  • Bomeber 1 oz Slab Spoon in white. It is the $1.97 Wal Mart special. Remove the treble and replace with larger feathered treble and trim to bottom of hooks. This little fellow has landed some giants, the day before this video in the same spot I had two 8's and one pushing 10. That day would have been a 40lb 5 fish day. Of course when I video the next day, I miss the only giant. We caught about 30 fish this day though, the biggest about 6, 6 1/2.

  • what spoon are you using?

  • I enjoy belton but large bass are hard to come by. Here during the winter a 7-10lber is almost a daily occurance. Especially with the jiggin spoon in their FACE.

  • Are you going to be fishing in the upcoming tournament this October (Fishing for Freedom)?

  • I would, but I will be moving to Missouri around the 24th of Sept, so I will miss it by a couple of days. I will be fishing belton a couple of days here pretty soon and will post some feedback in case you are fishing the FFF tourney.

  • Lake Belton is better than stillhouse.

  • wow you guys are really catch'n em with spoons huh. I never catch anything with spoons. Watching this makes me want to go try. I'm tired of using plastics.

  • Good catch guys!! I at least thought Sliger would go thru 1/2 a pack of smokes before he caught one.

  • Thanks for the response, too bad I couldn't get the missed fish in, it probably would have gone between 8-10. I have to learn to watch my language a little bit as well, I didn't realize how many times I dropped the F bomb.

  • Awesome video guys - Great background scenery....It's a realy nice looking secret spot! Hey the method really works(haha)... and Love the release footage! 5 Stars from us.

    Dave. DV Editor. BragNRelease!

  • that is the shiznit bro! Need to set the hook next time!
