  • BMW M Power! My favorite performance division! :-)

P/S: Anyone knows the background song between 0:18 until 1:43?

  • was this taped using a rat in a wheel camera!!?

  • left hand drive is the right hand drive, you should know it better Tiff

  • one of my favs with 300e amg w124

  • that orange one is ugly

  • Gösser Bier

  • My favorite part is when hes like "that should be enough to sort out Jeremy and his jaguar" And whips out a picture of his face lol

  • watching old cars makes me feel good about my shitty car

  • how come in the US, our M5 made only 310hp while you guys got 340hp?

  • @kernals12 most likely your petrol lol, if not then it was down to the law in your state vrs co2

  • @TheMagicalwill well how come now our BMW M cars produce the same amount of power and I believe our gas comes from the same place

  • @kernals12 Petrol in Europe is rated between 95 to 98 octane as standard, plus our laws are different regards to BHP and CO2, different US states will have different laws in regards to the same item, it maybe your cars are fitted with different exhaust systems and different more restrictive catalytic converts, but most of the time the main difference is the "ECU Map" which can be changed or "altered". By doing this it should bring your BHP up. You can always contact BMW and ask why yourself'

  • @kernals12 It's to do with emissions. In the US they had stricter laws regarding emissions so Nearly every car imported to US had to be detuned and muffled up a bit. Not as much to do with fuel but common sense 98 octane will perform better than 87 or 91 or which ever one you guys had back then.

  • @TupacX2Pak actually the octane of our fuels is the same, we just have a different measurement system so while regular fuel is 95 octane over there, here it's 87, for premium fuel, it's 98 over there, 91 or 93 here

  • fifth gear not top gear

  • This guy here is 5 th gear's fag , this is no top gear

  • @EMIR72CC He used to be on Top Gear, left the show in 2001 when Top Gear was cancelled (later brought back) and started on Fifth Gear.

  • song - zz top of course, "got me under pressure".

  • @Swissair171 Starting just after 3:00 is Filter - Trip Like I do. Is that the one you meant?

  • Just for the record, what song is being played early on in the segment?

  • Best part was Tiff punching Jeremy. Oh, and the parts about the M cars.

  • 4 people were dropped as a baby and still think that front-wheel drive is somehow desirable...

  • M1 look bad ass

  • Comment removed

  • I did driver training in an M5

  • @Dabomb31290

    6 Bar of boost.

  • Ahhh tracking on the VCR. That takes me back

  • ( 0:55 ) How do you screw 1,2000 hp out of a 1.5 liter turbo 4 cylinder...? That's what I want to know.

  • this is fifth gear

  • @pepas346 daft cunt

  • @alexlmason wtf is wrong with you dumbass??

  • @pepas346

he was actually one of the original top gear presenters. the trio we have now only came in much later

  • thanks i didnt know :)

  • The sound of M5 - jizz

    That deep, soft rumble.....

  • I'd rather have a Chevy Cavalier....What with it's 2200cc Pushrod (not even SOHC, mind you) 4 cylinder making 120 BHP, with interior panels made out of the shittiest plastic construction you could ever imagine....Now THAT's a car. Lol. I'm kidding to the HIGHEST extent....

Long Live the M car, BMW has and will ALWAYS have a winner with these.

  • im looking at a 1999 m3 with 60k for $12k is that a good deal are these a headache to own

  • @5959512 surprised no one has responded to you yet. let me tell you .. that if the car checks out mechanically and is in good cosmetic shape with a clean title ... clear history ... THAT IS AN EXTREMELY GOOD DEAL. It is a myth that they are a headache to own. Educate yourself on the way to maintain the car and keep on top of it ... and you will love that car for a very long time. the s52 is a very reliable engine and the trans on these cars (5spd manual) is very stout.

  • @toprules damn, I wish someone would have told me that a week ago ...it's gone now

  • @b4pl yeah but that was the racing version and they would basically cross the line then break down

  • wow 4 cyl 1.5L engine produce 1200 hp ??? that more than a veyron..!!!!!

  • i think there is something wrong with car manufacters today... in early 80s, bmw had a 1.5 liter, 4 cylinder engine... it made 1200 horsepower... more than a bugatti veyron...

  • @skinnbone260

Those engines were very complicated, only lasted one race weekend and I believe ran on different fuel than modern F1 cars.

They didn't even make 1200hp for an entire race weekend. They could generate that sort of power for 1 or 2 qualifying laps, but during the race they had to reduce turbo boost or the engine wouldn't last the race distance.

  • @skinnbone260 how long did the 1500cc last tho?

  • @Tomekpsp it would last less than a race weekend... good engineered engine to handle such power... but ofcourse such a small engine could not hand all that power...

  • @skinnbone260 exactly, that was my point

  • @Tomekpsp hehehe im just saying tho. if you were to get honda to do that. they would not be able to engineer and engine that can last over an hour with that much power. bmw was able to engineer it... so why cant they engineer more engines like that today? im not asking 1000 hp, im asking 300+ hp in a 1500 4 cyl engine, when gas prices are so high... i have a 2.0 LNF engine making 300 hp, only problem is..... GM made.... lmao

  • @skinnbone260 Saying BMW could design an engine like that and not Honda is stupid. Honda has engineered some of the best engines in the history of internal combustion. Particularly in the Formula One arena they have until recently been at the forefront of racing engines! I'm a BMW man through and through but the company has nothing to do with that in terms of capability. If the board of Honda decided to build that they could do it just as BMW can. BTW that horsepower is in qualifying trim too!

  • @at32degrees well i mean im just saying... the 2jz can handle some serious power... and the 2.5 engine in the late 80s bmw could handle about 400+ horses

i want to see a honda with stock internals do that

  • @skinnbone260 I know what you mean but the logic is faulty. My point is, if Honda had the desire to build an engine that was thoroughly engineered to handle significantly more power than stock output they absolutely could. They don't because that's not their goal. It's like saying "Well Honda can't build an engine that sounds as good as a Lamborghini V-12". That may or may not be true but it's irrelevant because they aren't even trying to. They focus on affordability and fuel efficiency...

  • @at32degrees It's clear that they have the expertise to build a robust stock engine capable of huge horsepower IF THEY WANTED TO. Typically that isn't the case because the goal is to minimize cost and maximize efficiency. There aim is to build an engine that is only as robust as it needs to be for the intended output. There's just a difference in the goals of the two companies as well as what its customers expect them to produce. All I'm saying is Honda could if they wanted to...but they don't.

  • @at32degrees okay what about the CBR1000RR ?? vs the S1000RR

they both went for performance... BMW has 20 more HP, and is almost half the weight... im just saying... germans perfect everything

  • @skinnbone260 after you changed the gearbox and half the engine, yes dude, every car can handle that 400HP with new forged block :D

  • @W1zzar3 thats what i am saying tho... forged block... im saying stock internals... very few cars can handle up to 400+ hp...

  • @skinnbone260 You don´t realize one thing, the stuff you put into the car to get it to 400+HP is the stuff that would break or get damaged under the pressure. That´s not just changing air filter and installing new exhaust or remapping ECU, getting a car from ~200hp to 400 take some serious tuning.

  • @W1zzar3 no... i mean supercharging my mustang... 4.6 v8. i had that thing last winter. i had to forge internals just so it could get 200 more horsepower from the supercharger. i had done a lot of other things to it. but with stock internals im saying. very little cars can handle that much power... for example, the 2az engine the the scion TCs. stock internals, you can turbo it, and get 400hp at the engine

  • BMW M CARS FORVER!! FUCK THESE SHITTY AMERICAN CARS!!!

  • E30 the best!!!

  • hey does anyone know the date this was aired? or at least the season?

  • Waitg did I hear him right??? A 1.5 liter 4 banger turbo with over 1000bhp????? Thats amazing! Y didn't they do that for a Bugatti and save all that weight to go even faster?!?!?!?!

  • @Qnickel27 Because driving it is like driving a bean tin, it's about as safe as strapping yourself to a rocket.

  • @Qnickel27 Because its a formula 1 car!

  • @Qnickel27 Because all that weight in a Bugatti is the safety stuff that a car must have to be road legal.

  • @birdman3120 but other cars that are road legal don't weigh almost 6000Ibs. U can't get around the weight of a quad turbo W16 motor

  • @Qnickel27 If you can't get around the weight of the engine, then how would you suggest they should reduce the weightof the car?

  • @birdman3120 replace the engine with something smaller! Don't get me wrong I love the Veyron it is a remarkable technical achievement that deserves an applause absolutely but I think it might have been executed to a higher standard than what the final project's bill suggests they spent for the Veyrons development.

  • I really am glad that Tiff was sacked, he is really annoying as a presenter.... monstrous driver though...but still, he has an annoying voice

  • e34 M5 for life. thats where bwm did there best work!

  • @johnfee33 I've always wanted one of those.

  • @johnfee33

    e39

  • @johnfee33 e30's are boss imo

  • @LtColQwerty Yeah man I agree with you on that, the e30 was great car.

  • @ecotts They are. I have 2.

  • @johnfee33 yep that's why i own a 525 tds E34 mod 1995 :D

  • its not the top gear show dumbass

  • stop bitching about right hand drive

  • He is so young here. Time ruins the age.

  • Those people shift from left to right hand driven cars with ease, I don't think I could do that, but I have actually never driven an right hand car.

  • I kinda miss those days, when Top gear wasn't all about entertaining and idiotic stunts...

  • @doodydude234 You are asshole, this is top gear when tiff was in the crew. Nieedell was faster in top gear than J. Clarskon did, but he go away from top gear becouse of clarskon and the more show directed top gear - (add with this 2 assholes). Back in the days top gear was really nice automotive program. Now is a gadget

  • @Mercedes600SEL Well you need to check up on your Top Gear history! :-D

  • @doodydude234 Sorry you retard, it's Top Gear. Fifth Gear was never on the BBC.

  • lol at the end....

  • isnt there a circle of hell for those who put fake ///M badges on cars??

  • @luedriver i love them because i'm pissing them of with my real m3 hahaha

  • @luedriver

Only by people who are too un-educated to realise that ///M stands for M-Technic, my 330i Sport has at least half a dozen factory fitted ///M badges splatted around, now people who put fake M3/M5 badges deserve the ring of fire, but people need to understand the difference.

  • @PhantomMark this is true, I think...

  • @luedriver

mine came stock from the manufacturer , since its the M-chassi

  • @luedriver I saw a ///M badge on a 7 series lol

  • @Matt561 thats disgusting.. lol

  • @luedriver i was going to put it on my 325is till i could afford a m3... since they go for about 12-23k now D:

  • @luedriver I agree and I am content driving my vintage 94 325i that is decent on gass and has a little bit of power when needed. I have nothing to prove, just enjoy the car for what it is, a sporty near luxury car in "loved" condition!

  • @sketchyinc your calling a 94 vintage? guess the cars i own are downright antiques.

its a shame that Beemer parts are still pricey in the US and the cars are still expensive, otherwise i'm sure we'd see alot more of them on the road. damn import costs. lol.

  • Alright, ZZ Top!!

What's the dance song on the very end after Tiff signs off?

  • e30's all the way .... very nice car to drive

  • 1200 hp from a 1,5... mumma

  • m3 e30 - such a cult icon...

  • I like BMWs but whenever i see some one driving one its always some cock or douche very sad really.

  • E28 m5 FTW

  • Love my Cecotto E30 M3!!

  • e34 Ummm !!!!

  • e30 M3 FTW

  • I hate e36 even if its M3!!The car is crap!

  • @Vetal83 wrong, wrong friend.

    dont judge by look!!@

  • Having owned seven BMWs so far, I yet to have an M Power model. But someday. ;)

I do like the M5, the right balance between sportiness and rear seat room. I do currently have a 740iL with M5 rims. Am quite impressed with the better handling with the 9.5" width rims.

  • e34 owns bones so does e30

  • Tiff is a great driver I like the E39 M5 myself !

  • nearly all the presenters on fith gear today have been presenters on old top gear

  • new column on th bottom of the screen - please go away...

  • M5 e39 IS DA BEAST!!!!!

  • m3 e46 is my favorite x

  • @monsterkkill Old top gear. Tiff was on that first before fifth gear was even thought about.

  • @monsterkkill top gear

  • 4 cylinders with 1200 horses? IN-SANE

  • e34 rules

  • Tiff sux

  • Back when the suspension sorted out the handling and not some computer. Sigh...

  • @rhopilema talking like you were 16 in the muscle car era, you arent that old!

besides, cars are faster now.. theres nothing fun about handling a bowl of jello around a track

  • BMW M POWER

  • Market Researcher - and the languages you speak fluently

  • Tiff's voice is still breaking, 40 years on.

  • I can't stand listening to Tiff!!!

  • does anyone have any more stats on that 1.5L 1200HP engine how much boost was it running on 60psi+?

  • @gooferman609 likely just had an rpm limit above 20k and used special fuel

  • @DFSPeaK think if the veyron had that technology applied to it!!!!!

  • @DFSPeaK I believe the limit was 13 500 RPM that´s actually less than today´s F1 cars. It was like 1600 pounds with fuel and driver so... :)

  • M3<3

  • LoL Tracking!

  • Classic.!!

Can anybody please tell the name of the song from 3.00-

  • @reebokmadeinengland Trip Like I do by Filter and The Crystal Method

  • 1200BHP from a 1.5 ... amazing

  • @educortazarc How the hell is that even possible!?

  • @Strike86 no idea ... it said in the video :P

  • @educortazarc imagine the turbo lag..

  • there's already a BMW M6

  • I bet Tiff and Clarkson watch these and laugh their asses off lol

  • e39 M5 is the best

  • @popboy2006 no e34 M5 is the best

  • @popboy2006 e46 m3 csl!

  • @popboy2006

    id go for the e34

  • @mustafa092 Fifth gear is only on five. And if you hear the first song it's top gear's opening

  • sorry it is Topgear ;)

Timothy "Tiff" Needell (born 29 October 1951 in Havant, Hampshire) is a British racing driver and television presenter. He is best known as a former co-presenter of the Top Gear and Fifth Gear programmes.

    "Wikipedia"

  • Perhaps you missed "Jessica" trailing off in the beginning of the clip, or Tiff playfully punching Jeremy in the face at the end.

If this is Fifth Gear, does that mean Clarkson jumped ship to the show in 1997, even though it didn't go on the air until 2002?

  • Why is it that every video of Tiff on old Top Gear has some 'tard saying 'its 5th gear innit'. Even if you're too young to remember old Top Gear the BBC logo is a pretty bloody obvious clue.

  • @mtr22b I knew this, but just cuse im a big fan. Here in Brazil we dont have BBC channel. And neither that other of Fifth Gear, channel Five is it? I mean, you are right but that 2 names (top and fifth gear) look like camed from the same producers and channel too.

  • @KoopaKabana a well maintained e30 m3 is about the sameprice as an e46 m3.

  • @flskimskatesurf Driving an e30 where people could see you would prove highly embarrassing.

  • @KoopaKabana I've got nothing but positive comments from my car, even in it's shitty condition

you don't get comments because everybody and their sister has a newer bmw.

  • @KoopaKabana and the irony in that post is that, my sister HAS a newer bmw.

  • @KoopaKabana your stupid , kthxbye

  • @FutioN1 It's spelled you're. Stupid.

  • @mtr22b how he end up on 5th gear ??

  • @b4pl When old Top Gear ended Channel Five half-inched all the old presenters (VBH, Tiff and Wilson) to create Fifth Gear. Not long later new Top Gear arrived with Clarkson and co

  • sry dude its not 5 gear its top gear

  • @mustafa092, Tiff used to be a host in Top Gear.

  • The big clue was the BBC logo on the screen.

  • idiot

  • @mustafa092

    haha you moron

  • M5 is good ?...is one of the best car on the world. E34 M5 THE BEST.

  • m5 is good
