  • is there any way of doing this with a permanently attached muzzle break? for those of us who live in a socialist state

  • great video!just wish it was higher quality resolution!

  • @pontiacmaniac2 Mine was the same way. It took me 2 hours with a pipe wrench and a hammer to get mine off... Tore up the nut pretty good but it wasn't needed any more. Good video also!

  • Does anyone know if the Magpul polymer handguard is free floating? Does it suffer from twist when a vertical grip attachment is on there?

  • Golden VOice

  • cant get my barrel nut off, ive tried everything. Lube, heat, strength, nothing works. This is crazy, a task this simple should not be this hard, i'm sick of trying to work on that darn thing. think i'll just got back to my AK.

  • @pontiacmaniac2 contact the manufacturer of the upper and see what they say

  • Great video!

Helped me figure out that my delta ring lock was stuck on the RIS.

  • Look closely at the end of the brake. Usually you can tell. If you can't, try to twist the brake with a non warring wrench. It might take some doing to break it free. If it doesn't budge. It's welded or pinned.

  • i got a question i have a stag 2h upper im looking to get rid of the front post and add a quad rail (not sure what kind yet) for a flip up sight aswell as my eotech 512 my question is how do i tell if the muzzle break is pinned or welded on cause i know you need to remove it before the front sight post can come off anyone able to help me out??

  • Nicely done sir! This just answered nearly all my questions. Can't wait to make the change to a FF handguard. I hope it is as simple as it looks!

  • Thanx for sharing.

  • Why is it more accurate just because its free floating?

  • @whyusucksobad Free float hand guards are attached to the receiver and make no contact with the barrel, so any stress put on the hand guard will not affect the barrel's accuracy. Normal hand guards may slightly bend the barrel while holding it or using a bipod, which can hurt accuracy at a range.

  • @commentfightsrfunny Thanks man!

  • Man I really wish it was this easy for me to install my TROY FF handguard. I think my handguard may be canted just a tad bit in which would be very bad because of the MOA. I did it with most tools so I guess in part it my fault. When I did my final twist for it to alighn with the reciever it is a tad bit rasid and canted. does anyone know how to fix this

  • That had to be the easiest FSB taper pin removal in the history of AR's. I needed Thor's hammer to get the ones out of my BCM. However, I'm sure they made minor changes to make this segment go a lot smoother. Though, it would have been interesting to see Jim cursing under his breath and wrestling with the things for 10 minutes.

  • Jim Scoutten is tha man.

  • my pins do not align with the barrel... they are off by 1 and a half cm's what can I do to fix that?

  • Screw it, my barrel and front sight look like they have been through hell and back, after trying to get those stupid taper pins out. I'm sending it back to Bushmaster for one that is "serviceable."

  • @ 1:59...I call BS! I have beat the crap out of my pins with various hammers and punches, while soaking them in liquid wrench.

That orange block allows the barrel to shift and bounce, so it's about a PITA itself...

  • how hard do you have to hit those freaking front site pins to get them out?!? I'm beating the crap out of them and don't want to ruin it, or my ACOG. I might take that off, while I beat the crap out of the site pins?

  • @MrBlister1972 they are tapered. make sure you are hammering them the right way.

  • I did this so I could get rid of my front sights. I bought a Madbull Dragon Fire free floating R.I.S. to fit over a new gas block I bought cheap and over a stubby silencer. Before this video I had no idea how to get rid of the Delta Ring.

  • I like how easy he removes everything. Like it was an airsoft. In reality, it took me a long time to remove each piece.

  • @reyleron noobs... you need right tools and brain to work on the accessories. i can build an ar in 45 mins so beat that.

  • With the front sight/gas block, gas tube, how is it still a free-float system? Also, I keep reading and seeing install of the barrel nut with a torque wrench, does this install not require the 35 lb. torque required?

  • he sounds like principal skinner from the simpsons.

  • This was not an easy project for me my a2 pins were really in there not just a simple tap of the hammer it took some force getting those out

  • Love it, I just installed all that same handguard, sights and afg. looks awesome.

  • I just did this today. It was actually pretty easy and I had a lot of fun doing it.

  • thanks for uploading this. was considering free floating my AR but didn't know how to do it or what tools I needed until I saw this.

  • how do i remove my stock free float tube from my Remington ar15

  • haha i love how he just drops his lower when he pulls the front pin, i honestly cringe every time i see that.

  • is it really that easy to take the flash suppressor off? cause i was thinking about getting a new one for mine.

  • Is there a pin or something in the front A2 sight that keeps it lined up/zeroed when you replace it?

  • @celt902 - No there is not.. if you change your pinned A2 sight with a low profile gas block, you'll have to allign it manually.. if you put your old A2 sight back, the pins will align it again.

  • @dunbar555 Ok, thanks. I was thinking about replacing the hand guard someday that I currently have with a Magpul one and keeping the gas tube and front A2 as is.

  • @celt902 So you can just pin your A2 frontisght again.. the pins will align it back to it's original position.

  • @dunbar555 I would have thought manufacturers would make aftermarket gas blocks within spec to align with the original FSB?

  • @dunbar555 So if I put a free floating handguard on my AR but don't want the front sight tower, I can get a low profile gas block?

  • @ledgewalker360 . Yes they are some.. The daniel defense Omega rails and Lite rails can be mounted without remonving the frontsight post if I am not mistaking.

  • Good vid but I got a question. Are not you supposed to tourque the barrel with a wrench to the nessary 30 lbs. I am doing a build myself and I am curious about that...

  • More or less, yes... better too tight than not enough I want to say... If you cannot reach the next hole for the gas tube, tighten it, then untight.. do it again, 3 times.. you should be able to get to the next hole..

  • ESP: Si. En los EEUU, nosotros comprarlas sin problemas si no tenemos antecedentes penales malos. Es una garantia de nos constitucion. De nada.

ENG: So you can buy a gun without problems? What country? Thanks.

Answer: Yes, in the US we can buy guns without problems if we don't have "bad" criminal records [best way I could translate felony]. It is a guarantee of our constitution. Your welcome.

  • @ozziebori Depends on the barrel nut if you even can. Some have a wide opening for the gas tube, like in this video the nut has to be in a perfect place to allow the gas tube through. If you are not able to best guess the amount of torque on the nut then I would suggest you use a wrench but the foot pounds is suggested so if you are a few pounds loose it won't hurt. Don't over tighten or after heating up from use you may never get the nut off.

  • This is a very instructional video, but I think it's misleading in how easy it is made to look. Doing these things to a factory new AR is far more difficult the first time out than this video would make it seem.

  • i agree. what a rifle...

  • what if you didnt want to have the a frame a2 sight on the front, are there gas blocks you can buy to put in place of the original?

  • of course. You have gasblocks available.. Some are made with a rail on top and on top, some are made with back up flip up iron sight, and others are called "low profile" so that you can put a longer handguard that will cover them- They are plenty of them out there.. brands like YHM, ARMS, etc..

  • so no headspacing required for a barrel exchange?

  • headspacing?

  • @famasdan AR15 rifle are head spaced during the machining process, if they are milled within specification and the parts are not considerably worn... If you purchase low quality parts from multiple manufacturers or the rifle wasn't previously assembled the head space should be verified to ensure the bolt locks fully into battery. In this situation he is disassembling an already functional rifle so when he re-seats the barrel the spacing will be the same and no measure is required.

  • The gas tube helps holds the barrel nut in place??? Ugghh. No.

The barrel nut should be tightened down with at least 35lbs of torque, then tightened even more to line up a hole for the gas tube. 35-40lbs of torque is the industry standard.

Even for plinking at the range, you want your high-powered rifle properly built.

  • QUESTION: He tightened the barrel nut by hand, then torqued it one knotch to line it up for the gas tube. Is that tight enough? What about the 40lb-torque standard?

  • Is tight enough? Probably enough to work. Keep in mind the gas tube also holds it in place. Although if you were to use an AR for putting lots of rounds through it quickly I'd want an AR properly built. For a range toy or plinking, it shouldn't be a problem at all.

  • sorry, I do not speak spanish

  • did he really need a mallet to tap in the front pin when attaching the lower to the upper?

  • You shouldn't need to hit either the front or rear takedown pin to push them in. If you do, it's because the upper and lower halves are not properly alligned so smashing the pin in would only cause damage. On weapons that have been used A LOT (99.9% of the civilian owners will never see that), the takedown pin's detent could be worn and could cause the pin to be very hard to push in or out. A qualified person can replace it or turn it around to fix the problem.

  • I understand this, I was being sarcastic. It just looked to me as if they came out and went in VERY easy and he should have just been able to push them in and out with a thumb.

  • I agree. He should not have to hammer the take down pins. I seen this and thought what is he doing.

  • Building AR's is pretty easy and cheaper than buying one from a gun dealer. I've seen AR's I could build for $800 going for $1400 in gun stores and people were snatching them up. Now DHS is training kids as young as 14 for house to house fighting. Just google NY times Explorer scouts train to fight terrorists.

Guess what folks...thats you and me. Just read the DHS own papers on who they fear most. All you current and former military are at the top of the list. With PTSD you cant own a gun.

  • Thanks for this video, I just bought an AR15 with a free float Hogue, and this told me what I needed to know about dis/reassembly if I need to or want to mod it! Rated 5 by me

  • Nice, gotta have the proper tools though.

  • I miss this show! What was it called?

  • The show is called Shooting USA. Its still on. If you have Comcast (or Time Warner/Similar) Cable then its on the Outdoor Channel on Wednesdays, Channel 406

  • Thanks. It used to come on OLN but now they changed to Versus and I haven't seen it.

  • It's good for you to learn about guns. An armed society, is a police society.

Airsoft can be good and bad at the same time. Don't get too many bad habits. Try to respect the 4 safety rules, even with airsoft, and you should be fine. I hope you can get a real gun anytime soon. You will enjoy that tool, and maybe, one day, at worse, it can save your life.

Are you in the USA ? I am not. I am from Switzerland btw.

  • im still learning about the m4.

Can some one explain to me why its called a Freefloat rail, and what afects dose it have?

Please don't give me shit about this...i want a mature answer.

  • Yeah, no problem.

It''s called a free float handguard because unlike the standard hanguard, it doesnt touch the barrel along it's lenght. A free float handguard is attached to the upper reicever with the barrel nut, and let the barrel have it's own vibration, undisturbed, while shooting. On longer barrels it increases accuracy. On a M4 barrel, it just garanties 0 play on the handguard, to attach optics or so.

  • THANKS!!!

    oh i see

and thx for neing mature about it.

    5/5 and sucribed

  • No problem !!! I don't understand why people can't behave on the internet.. Maybe because they don't have to face the people they are insulting/disrespecting...

It's my 5th AR-15, including a full auto M4.. So now I know about those... This video helped me at the beginning when i installed my 1st FF handguard.. now, 3 of them have them, and the 2 thers use a KAC RAS (M4 and M5)

  • yeah no kidding man...some people need to go outside :p

Nice im still learning about guns right now im playing airsoft. But you have to start some where right?

  • you do exactly the same on pre or post ban.. they are the same.

  • is this for a post-ban rifle and if not how would i do that for a post ban

  • Looks like I need to buy some tools!

  • Thanks for sharing! That process looks easier than I expected.

  • awesome demonstration. very clear and easy to follow.

  • I would love that guy to install the rails for my m4. I do not know if I could do it that cleanly and efficiently.....

  • nice

  • Great video. Thanks.

  • Thanks for the helpful post!

  • Good video. Thanx for posting it.
