...plastic chess set and vinyl board are inexpensive and chess can be played anywhere and does not require an enormous amount of capital for expensive equipment or playing area. all schools(including colleges) should have chess teams and the chess player should be the most admired "athlete" on campus. brains, intelligence,innovation, invention are vital to our nation, not mindless zombies,tattoo 'artists', jerry jones,al davis, michael vick,etcetera.

he probably "gave up" chess due to the USCF. the USCF has driven many from chess with it's haughty vain attitude that if one is not a master or tournament player with a rating then one not need to have an interest in chess. with a different attitude as even the USGA( please everyone, get some golf clubs and play and it doesn't matter if You are the worst player for life, just play the game and have fun!) the USCF could greatly increase its membership and lower its ridiculous dues as a ....

@DahlemDorf - the movie was good because it was making a comparison between Josh and Bobby Fischer both New York Americans child prodigies in chess. On paper, it seemed they were very similar. But socially and how they related with people and how they approached life and chess, they were totally opposite. Bobby grew up socially isolated and paranoid and angry. Josh is totally opposite. No one wants to see a movie solely about chess.

the problem was comparing him to the greatest player ever (arguably). there was so much pressure on him to win, josh was a strong child player i read his book, attacking chess, and it was a decent book it showed alot of his games from his youth, thankfully i solved all josh's problems one was a mate in 7, although a couple took me over an hour, but since josh was like 11 at the time i felt i couldnt be shown up by a child. but i do study 9 hours a day. it is a shame he never made grandmaster.
