"The 3,000-year old seat of power has been toppled!...Ethiopia is free! Let's drink to that!" Did not like this part of the trailer. Out the bat disrespecting our former King to me is insulting our culture, heritage and history. I am still going to see this movie, since it does have realism to it. For instance, the accounts during Mengistu Hailemariam treatment of people seems accurate from hearing it from my mother's stories. It's a movie and a form of art, so congrats on the movie maker.
@axum3000 LOL. With a name like "axum3000" you really think I believe your comments come from any objectivity? "A lot of people at the time were happy he was gone...." A lot does not mean the majority, unlike how Ethiopians feel about Meles.
Many Ethiopians did not respect or honor the idea of King Selassie leaving Ethiopia during Italy's invasion, however if it was not for the diplomacy attempts oversees with the U.N., and then Victor Emmanuel would of continued to his occupation for decades.
@axum3000 LOL means Laughing out Loud. You are familiar with acronyms, I presume, mate? Noticed the message I sent had this in the very beginning of my response to your comment? Back to the topic, in regards to Haile Selassie I. Ethiopia's population is quite large, isn't it? No social policy, nor any political body as well as a monarchy system could please the whole masses. Now taken this is into account, in order to clear up any confusion from my stand point. Your "nay" and me "I" for H.I.M.
@axum3000 You realize how many movies have been smashed by critics? "Did not like this part of the trailer. Out the bat disrespecting our former King to me is insulting our culture, heritage and history... I am still going to see this movie, since it does have realism to it." This is my opinion, in addition I have legitimate right to debunk or recommend, analyze and share my personal input as a viewer. Ethiopia's does not have these liberties in speech, press and political arena yet... Sad...
