  • bro i have the EXACT same hard drive... the WD800 WD caviar... the 3.5 for desktops which i was using thru an external case and plugging it through my laptops USB... but i lost the power chord for the external casing ... not the ATA pins i have that but the actual black cable with the 6 or 7 pins that plugs into the casing from the wall or outlet... any way i can get a replacement cable without buying a whole new enclosure?

  • @wgregorios The drive is running on 12 volts dc, so I would find a similar wattage dc adapter and splice it in before that proprietary 6-7 pin adapter.

  • also i liked and subscribed.

  • sucks. because my pc only has one drive that i can connect one drive to, which is the c drive.)

    Here is what it says:

    Disk 0

    CD-ROM 0

btw my c drive only has 40 gb. :(

    any solutions?

  • Man bro. I was stuck till I saw your video. I feel a lot smarter now thanks to you.

  • ok,thank you for your help.will it erase the viruses when i format it??

  • hi,i have an old hard drive that im planning on puting into my new (ish) pc,ive been told it will work but the old hard drive has viruses and i dont have a disc to format it so i was wondering if you could give me some advice on how to wipe the harddrive and if i can format it any other way?? i would be very grateful of any help.cheers.

  • @moley782 When you get into disk management, simply assign the drive a drive letter and format it..... No special disks are necessary. Follow the steps from 4:50 to the end of this vid and it should work.

  • when you shake it does it matter if it sqeeks?

  • @logandpezshow It shouldn't be making that type of noise.........Have you plugged it yet to see if it works ?

  • @sirmasterpimp i tried and i got the blue screen :(

  • simple questions..i have a 1000gb hard drive and i have put it in my PC was just wondering if its doen or if i need to do anything else? im on windows 7 :)

  • @Nathan11661 Nope, just make sure it gets formatted correctly and it should work.

  • This helped me out a lot man THANKS

  • WHERE DO I PUT THE 3RD HARD DRIVE IN MY DELL STUDIO 540??????

  • i tried this and it doesnt show up and i hav a windows xp

  • My windows doesn't start up after installing the second hdd, should I configure that to Bios? When I enter to bios it doesn't configure 2nd slave drive?

  • thanks you sir your video helps

  • I NEED HELP, i just bought a new 500 gig hard drive and i plugged it in and i went here and it says unallocated under the amount so i try to format but there is no format link so what do i do :O ps. i am on windows 7

  • @5JACKHOFF5 I wish I could help man, but I currently don't own a win 7 machine.......in fact I've been using a mac for the past while.

Would it be possible to gain access to an older windows machine and retry ? Once it's formatted correctly you can move it to the win 7 machine.

  • @5JACKHOFF5 Have u checked the bios?? is it showing the hard drive both in case u have two cause I don't see u mentioning any thing about second drive??

  • @Baatish Mine doesn't configure primary hd slave? My windows doesn't start up, Can you help me?

  • @playbetterintime Well I didn't exactly get what u mean by "ur's doesn't configure Primary HD slave?" do u mean ur Bios dosn't let u or ur 2ndry HD doesn't let u?? U can try this because this is one stupid little mistake I made when I connected my secondary Sata HDD :P if u r using power cable that has two connectors on it, use the first one from PSU side for Primary drive and the second one on secondary HDD. In IDE drive this config is required on IDE cable, don't know why but it worked for me.

  • @Baatish Thank you!

  • @playbetterintime Your welcome, so it worked for u as well??

  • hey everyone!! i got a problem installing my hard drive when i plug everything up in my drive and then i start my pc, after starting it shows me nothing but all black and a grey progress/loading bar? is that normal? i need help anybody?

  • @Bmakorpal what type of computer is it and did you remove anything else besides the hard drive ?

  • @sirmasterpimp desktop and i want my hard drive internal, but i can't seem to get it right and i think i got the jumpers right and i only want an additional hard drive which is only 40gb (IDe) and..... no i didn't remove anything.

  • thank you buddy,,,my new hard drive works very well,,thank you so much!!!!!!!!

  • hey guys if anyone can answer my question.

i just bought a second internal hard drive and from their i thought i could just plug it in but yet pc cant read it? what do i do?

and i dont know where to format it to use it on my pc.

  • @jeramii21 What OS are you using ?

If you are using windows xp or newer, go to start, find "my computer" right click and go to disk management. look towards the bottom for a drive that has no drive letter, format it and assign it a letter......Then your all set.

This is shown @ 4:58 in this vid.

  • @sirmasterpimp yeah thanks buddy... Win7 just figured it out whilst watching and reading.. and i got it working before i got to the part where he actually says how..

    thanks agen cheers.

  • You can also drill a few holes in the case of the hard drive to make sure there is no dust inside. Its not a bad idea to crack the case open and make sure none of the programs came loose. if so, use a hot glue gun. then use the same glue gun to seal the case again.

  • you know alot about computers

  • I have one hard drive in my computer, 250GB, which is the C drive. Is there a way I can expand the capacity of my C drive by add another hard drive?

  • question, when you're adding a software, theres that thing you have to do when your computer starts up and says which things to use, what do i press cause i completely forgot T_T

  • @stoneblock12 I don't quite understand the question.

Are you just starting your computer and it asks about boot options or are you installing software ?

  • @stoneblock12 For Windows XP you hit F2, I'm not sure if it is that way for all.

  • you have Logitech Z-5500

  • @michaelomo1998 And a Z-2300 + a z4 I rarely use

  • So what do you have to do to install a external? Do you need to buy any adapters or anything other then a the hard drive?

  • @XIronChancellorX You just need the correct enclosure (know if it is IDE, SATA, 3.5" etc......)

  • @sirmasterpimp wow never mind I am not good at all with computers so I might as well just ave up and buy a whole new PC.

  • @sirmasterpimp wow never mind I am not good at all with computers so I might as well just save up and buy a whole new PC.

  • i have a hard dive in my computer i was trying to uninstall windos becaus i got a really bad virus and i daleted somthing and now i cant use that computer

  • Thanks for the great job on the instructional video. Also for the fast response. regards.

  • How about adding some suggestions on using a second drive effectively. For example, I've maxed out my only 60 gig HD so I want to add a second. Should I use the second drive for only 'My Documents' storage because it is continually growing or?

  • @MrJorgek5 If you add a second drive, add it to a free port inside the computer for faster data transfer speeds. That way, in addition to moving your docs, you can install large games and programs to free up more space on your OS drive.

If you run the drive via a usb enclosure, you will get much slower data transfer speeds and running programs and games will be too slow.

  • hey my hdd is 250 but show only 127, i update to xp sp3, and is no slave drive! please help!

  • You don't shake or knock the internal hard drive... It will get massy inside..

  • THANK U MAN

  • Brilliant. Thanks very much. You are a great teacher.

  • I added a 2nd sata wd hd to my pc, it ran well not untill i reformatted my pc and it wont show up at the 'My Computer'. The computer shop replaced me one without checking my old hd, so i installed and restarted my pc still it wont show up. They said it cant be the sata cable's fault because they hardly malfuntion.

I open my computer - manage - disc management and i syill cant find the new hd detection. Any idea what the problem is?

    Thanks for the vid!!!

  • I just got a WD 500GB HDD, I installed it but in "Computer" it wont show it, it only shows my old HDD. If i go to "computer" left click it and go to manage then there I can see the new HDD it says its unallocated.

    What to do?

  • You did a great job on this video! I was really stumped when I installed a 2 TB drivew on my XP system. I had a bad drive and had to do the format setup tha t you were talking about. Again awsome you really did get me unstuck!!!! So if no one told you, THANK YOU!!!!

Ive taken the hd out and connected it to my dell xps, but it dont show on my computer tab. work

  • Very informative, will try to install a second 40Ghz HDD that may not have been formatted correctly. Will need it for my Doom 3 game. Thanks.

  • 40Ghz HDD???? are you sure it`s not a 40 GB HDD?

  • yeah yer right...my bad...

  • Yes, I know I had a little too much caffeine in the first minute or so of the video, LOL!

  • hey can you add a laptop hardrive to a desktop?

    Nice video by the way

  • Yes, especially if its a SATA drive (desktops and laptops use the same connector). For an IDE drive, you would need to buy a cheap $10 adapter. Since laptop drives are so small you would probably have the drive just hanging free (make sure it doesn't go near any fans or touch the motherboard). Most people do that so they can retrieve data from a broken laptop. You can also just buy a $20 external enclosure to make it easier and to use the drive as an external drive later on.

  • thank you

  • @sirmasterpimp i got my adapter free of charge!
