  • so are you a mater now?

  • I wonder if it's such a good idea to put an eleven year old kid out there to get spanked like this...

  • whats ur rating now?

  • @MarpLG 2200+

  • @ChessNetwork nice,do u met person who raise high rating and started play chess older, like 18 for example?

  • Morphy never was an amateur,in fact no one taught him how to play chess ,he just learned watching his relatives play and at the age of 10 he already was the best player of new orleans and probably of USA, at 12 he was the best player in the world, defeating at that young age one of the strongest masters of his era:Johann Lowentall. And he didn´t studied practicly any openings book,in fact some moves that we all do at this days were introduced by Morphy, like playing a6 at move 3 in the Ruy Lopez:)

  • I just played like 4 games on instantchess, one against a guy rated over 2300, I was barely paying attention and I won all 4

  • When your opponent got you in the fork, shouldn't he of taken the other rook?

  • How not to play is alot easier to understand because it rules out useless thinking processes rather than giving you new ideas to think upon :P

  • h0w old were you when you played that game?

  • @antiviral8 @ 11 years old

  • Haha, this game reminded me of myself a couple years ago. Great nostalgia.

  • LOL this was one of the funniest games that i've ever seen. I have seen funnier games but this one is definately high up on my list

  • Takes some balls to show your defeats to everyone...ive seen many of your videos. Great voice, instructive, confident...what man/woman wouldnt feel honored if you narrated their game! :) By now this man should be very dangerous on the board...takes one to know one.

  • He was probably laughing while he took your pieces. lol we've all been there though, nice vid.

  • Jerry, you have the most clear, concise and easily understandable commentary in any series of chess videos which I have viewed. While little more than a beginner, I am able to follow your presentation quite comfortably, and it only serves to further my interest. Thank you for the clarity and the inspiration.

  • @JeffersonDinedAlone Thanks for the kind words. Good to know you're been inspired. :)

  • @ChessNetwork Chess survives within the players: Those who are interested in chess will grow that interest to compete, and eventually teach others. Thats why these videos, shared over a wide mainstream like youtube, are inspirational, as you are. I'd like to hear your impressions.

  • @anyanyomus Nicely said and thanks for the compliment. :)

  • How was it a queens gambit?

Isnt the queens gambit when the queen comes out?

    His queen never came out.

    Well plz anser someone.

    Great vid!

  • @redac2 queens gambit isn't about the queen coming out like in the scandinavian. Queens gambit comes from d4, d5 then c4, etc. But there is one line where black can fall into a trap and white's queen can capture a free knight.

  • Hey, I thought that was great showing a game like that, I think many chess players would just disregard that game, and never look at it again.

Perhaps thats why you have a high rating these days.

    Thanks.

  • @AlltimeTrance Thanks. :)

  • This video shows me that you dont have to be one of those child prodigys who start smashing reputable masters at Age 10 to be 22+ :) Definitely gives me inspiration to play on.

  • @MilitaryMan006 Glad that you found some inspiration in the video. :)

  • u play as bad as i do i have been playing for 2 mounths have u won a game?

  • xDDDD i was laughing the entire video

  • I played my first tournament at 20 years old and played worse opening than you did in this video. =))

Well, that's only 3 months since I learned chess...

  • @Danufane Keep going! :)

  • @KRISYSable he probably knew basic grammar though. How old are you? :P

  • Hey Jerry what is your rating now?

  • I have some pretty damn embarrassing games from the early days and I must say that getting crushed multiple times greatly helped give me the motivation to study and get better. Interesting idea for a video.

  • Typical beginner mistakes lol... Inspirational video nontheless. Thanks for posting!

  • LoL. Loved the ironic comment. Thank you :)

  • Thanks Jerry

  • also at the point of the queen trade why didnt u move ur bishop to the d3 square attacking the rook. even if the queen gets the queen u can get thequeen with the pawn

  • who did u vs

  • same, i was 11 when i played in my first tournament and another funny thing is, I also fell for a queen's gambit accepted trap.

  • lol this exact same thing happened to me...but the only difference is that when i got wayy better a few years later..i met him in a tournament and thrashed his sorry *** into the nxt century

  • Too much personal info. Just talk about the tactics.

  • I've been playing for like a month and I'm already a lot better than that... I feel better now.

  • nice video

  • "An endgame where this pawn is ready to score a touchdown."

lol, coolest thing I heard all day.

  • well what's there to post on this video? it is simple game and the author of this video made soo mannnyy blunders.sssss i can beat himmm...

  • @rahuls1s you're a moron, this is a video meant to be inspirational. "The author," Jerry, specifically noted it was his first tournament game. He did it to show that even he, as a master, was once a "beginner." So before you throw out your arrogant self-aggrandizing statements try opening your ears and listening. Thanks.

  • that's a mistake i make and still do now and then

  • "Every Chess Master was once a beginner" These words give me hope.

  • you were eleven! omg

  • Uff there´s still hope for me!!

    Great video!!

  • Well,it's not that bad of a start, like he was higher rated than you and playing the white pieces.

  • Comment removed

  • Played when I was young... just getting back into it... Funny, your describing sounds like what goes through my head when I play now unfortunately :( I especially liked the rook/rook/queen fork... haha... I never saw that queen either

  • How did you remember the moves? The game was documented? o.o

  • @teneight78 It left me with an "I want to get better so I can beat this guy" feeling. We never played again.

  • your opponent wasn't that good, you were just careless..

focus on the game next time, and always think the possibilities you open when you make a move

  • @stRunF11 its his old chess game mate now this guy is a national master

  • @syedofthedesert oh my bad, sorry :( it's not that i'm that good on chess or smthing anyways .. :)

  • Well.... At least you took 90% of his army in the process... Twas not a total defeat!

  • @RyuLoki i guess that a half full type of thought ...

  • when i was a beginner in chess and played my first tournaments - i never resigned! I always hoped for a stalemate! And as far as i can remember it sometimes worked out, especially when the opponent is far up in material like it was in this game!

  • Hi Jerry, you are a great guy i have to say.I'm a self-teach chess player.I learn only from my experiences since i started. Now i can learn from your video. Thank you so so so so so so much. You are my hero. Thanks Mate. Good day. Take Care.

  • I started playing chess when I was 4 Now I'm 11 and still I'm not strongenough to beat A hardcore chess master Once I will be like him (I HOPE)

  • Lol I still play such games probably because I am a beginner ahaha. But I never get punished because I play other beginner. Still this guy played amazing for 1600-1800. I am 1620 and play half as good.

  • The chess master that could!

  • i once played a game against a begginer (i was a beginer too) when i was 4 where i took out my queen so early and the end result was i moved my queen about 20 times while he devoleped every single piece but he still lost via 'fools mate'

  • i once played a game against a begginer (i was a beginer too) when i was 4 where i took out my queen so early and the end result was i moved my queen about 20 times while he devoleped every single piece but he still lost via 'fools mate'

  • Reminds me of many a game I played in my early teen years. It's amazing how much I improved at that time just by thinking about a few basic things such as "If I move here what squares can my piece (potentially) impact?" As opposed to before thinking along the lines of "If I move here maybe I can take this piece next turn"

  • This video made me laugh. Thank you for sharing.

  • I am so sad to see this video, I could realize I will never be a great chess player, cause you were lost but you didn´t give it up untill the end, but me, so , I hate to play when I am lost......

  • Like me , a beginner , if you started to play chess you're gonna get a lot of losses . Then you can learn from it. Great video.

  • Oh! I'm a class B player, I just realized.

  • i hate playing against the queen's gambit

  • waahahaha. what a newbie you were!!

  • I find kids thoughts during a strategy game very funny and cute xD

And yea, I was just the same when I was younger....

At my first games i liked to take out the Queen and King Pawns just because i thought my oponnent won't see the Bishops and will take his Queen to there or something...

I think i called that move "The Suprise".

  • nice vid, inspiring

    the new CC are hilarious

  • Thanks kindly for sharing your knowledge as always. I've been playing around with some ipod chess apps lately and really like this Shredder app. Have you tried it Jerry? I like using analysis mode, it really helps my game by showing me the best move for any position.

  • ahh i LOVE that app! another good app is "chess with friends" idk if youve ever heard of it but its a good app and you can also look over your game. i really like it. if you get it (iuts free) then challenge me if you want. name is matineesuxxx lol

  • He took the Queen's Gambit. I noticed it. I'm into chess 'bout 3-4 days now. I'm gonna be a grandmaster. :D Thanks for the tips.

  • awsome job mate

  • gg =)

  • Oh man, this video makes me feel so much better for all the stupid mistakes I make, and also shows me how much more there is to learn.

I hope you upload more videos of your early chess games.

  • Amazing, you already have 85 ratings on this video. I don't know why you dislike it when I comment, but I enjoy the chess videos you upload, and hope you keep it up.

  • I don't dislike it when you comment. Thanks for the compliment on my videos Zelrio. :)

  • I don't think so. Blitzin and Dasher are for ICC.

  • Trying to do a variety of videos :)

  • I enjoy watching all of your vids, never get tired of any of them. Thanks.

  • Good to know! :)

  • Just curious, how did you get paired up with that strong of a player in your first game?

  • I don't know exactly. It's always dependent on who attends the tournament. If only grandmasters and I had attended, I'd be paired with a GM!

  • wow... that*s awesome...

how can you remember your thought process from a game you played as an eleven year old ;) crazy ^_^

  • Ya know...I'm not sure...I just do...This isn't the case with all my games though, for sure!

  • yes!... a new chess network video =) sweet

  • Yes... :)

  • I think that there are perhaps two examples where these words of wisdom are not true. Paul Morphy and Capablanca, both of whom figured out how to play and corrected their uncles! Otherwise though, great vid, truly inspiring.

  • Even those 2 were beginners :)

Thanks for the kind words TCV :)

  • Wow awesome video. very uplifting. Shows what can be achieved with perseverance. thnx

  • Thanks. :)

  • so how long ago was this?

  • nearly 20 years.

  • And for me -- even though there's a certain span of lifetime between me and me when I was 11, so it looks like I've got some serious catching up to do! :D

And thank you, Jerry, for sharing this uplifting video!

  • You're welcome barsorrro. :)

  • good stuff Jerry.. keep em coming

  • Thanks chesstino!

  • i have to hand it to you Jerry, you've come a long way!! you've improved an incredible amount!! brilliant vid!!

    5*

    Ryan

  • Thanks Ryan. :)

  • Yeah, I think so.

  • great video, thanks for the analysis

  • ur welcome btej

  • oh that was u when ur a beginner =o kool

  • Yes :)

  • I don't recall exactly...at least an hour per player.

  • Ur welcome nox

  • I didn't even knew how to play Chess at 11. Nice Game Jerry, you have come a long way !!

  • Thanks happyt

  • Jerry it is quite nice of you to show a game like that. that way the rest of us patzers can see there may still be hope for us.

  • Thanks dragonD

  • I cant even believe the level of the details that match your game and my style of playing.

I was in a fork just like that..with the knight forking 2 rooks and a queen.

I was thinking also which 2 rooks to move..and I didnt even see the queen being attacked =| ....

Needless to say I lost the game and the queen. But I am 19 not 11..Why am I so stupid Jerry ;-)..

  • ur not :)

  • Thats the way I play jerry....You are describing the style of my game word for word.except i am even worse than what you were then

  • Ur better!

  • This reminds me of a similar video I uploaded where I take the SAT and it has its way with me again.

  • Great video as always! It must feel good to have come so far.

  • Thanks...it does feel good.

  • hehe

when I started out as a chess player, I sometimes made similar reckless moves. In the main I played against a computer program and it would handily help itself to my unprotected pieces, inexorably forcing me to resign and making me seethe with rage, lol

  • Practice only makes "almost" perfect.

  • this sharing is really appreciated - you're a born teacher

  • Thank you very much sawrasam. :)

  • thanks for showing us this :)

i wish i had all my games from 10 years ago where i played in tournaments. sadly i dont :( i would have loved to had gone over them to see how strong (or weak) i was back then

  • You're welcome breakz

  • nice vidbut how do you remember every move? did you record it or something?

  • @Sharkbait173 most tournaments where players have 30 minutes of time or more they usually (99% of the time) they will write down all the moves

  • Exactly.

  • Recorded...it's mandatory in tournament play.

  • good game..

  • Thanks top!

  • every mistake you commit, you'll learn from it and be a better player:)

  • Hopefully you'll learn from it.

  • what site is this chess program on

  • I used Blitzin for this.

  • Thanks for posting this. It was useful.

  • Good to hear tantz..

  • cool.... quite an original idea posting this video

  • Thanks 880...

  • Jerry, you're the man. I've seen all or your vids. You're an amazing player, and a great instructor. Thanks for sharing your insight and knowledge of the great game of chess. dp

  • Thanks roady.

  • Cool! Now show us how much you own noobs! haha

  • Now now...

  • EXACTLY! lmfao thats me ;)

  • Haha

  • Sheesh, why were you up against someone 1600+? Regardless, thanks for sharing. I remember playing games as a kid, too. It was so easy to make crazy mistakes, but it was also very exciting.

  • I'm playing my first season, and had to start at ELO 1000. I've already played a guy graded 1900 (I drew and should have won :(). i'm not a beginner though as I've practised against my chess computer. It's possible next year that I'll play against 2100 players.

  • Sounds like ur progressing quickly. :)

  • Idk...that's who I was paired with...they threw me to the sharks early i guess. :)

  • It's hard to see what moves are even possible with so much stuff going on on the board. Then you got to pick the best move and play two or three moves ahead. No wonder it's so tough for a beginner.

  • @theboombody Just keep at it. It only takes about six months after joining a chess club to get good.

  • The stronger the club the better.

  • Baby steps...

  • Fantastic!

  • Thanks Huddie

  • Pretty crazy how you at 11 could probably beat me now haha.

  • And nowadays a 10-year-old can beat me. :)

  • that's just like me!

but what's really amazing is how well you remember your thought process

  • Only some points. :)

  • Looks like a game that I might still play! Thx for the vid.

  • You're welcome ledge.

  • I decided to play chess again after watching this video:)

  • Great! :)

  • tnx that inspired me big time and pointed out my flaws

  • Good to hear! :)

  • i like it.. did nerves come into play here? how bout crunch for time?
