Dude I'm 23 now and I remember being the biggest NT fan. I had all the toys, video games...bed sheets. lol. But I agree on what you're saying as far as movies standing the test of time. I still try to hide my Rapheal faboyish-ness. And I do like this one better. One thing that always bothered me though was the fact that the turtles had these ninja weapons that they hardly ever used. Particularly Leo and Raph. I was just waiting for somebody to get sliced up and it never happened. lol

@mkocja5a Wow, that's pretty harsh. If it helps, the comic it was based on started out as a joke. A guy drew a turtle as a ninja because of how ridiculous it was. The foot clan was a parody of The Hand from Marvel, and to top it off they made the comic like it was completely serious. The movie was seriously low budget and tried to appeal to kids, adults and kind of spread itself thin. Don't take it too seriously.

You dont have to be a kid to like the Ninja Turtles movies.. Now admitedly you dont get as many weird looks if you are like 7 years old compared to a adult but I rather watch the old Ninja Turtles movies instead of the crap they make today. FINALLY, Someone who sees the masterpiece that is the VERY first TMNT live action movie! This was just done RIGHT. The choreography is off the chain, the costumes and personalities are super accurate... Everything about this is the turtles mixed with some good PG humor. I remember in the original VHS, Raphael said 'DAMN' alot. Ah, good times.

As an 80s kid, it ruled my house, fuck G.I. Joe and Transfromers, i was on the TMNT side as a kid. The movie was dark, true to the animated series/TMNT history. I consider it the best of the 4 films. Damn parents and their hatred for Ninja weapons, cuz of them TMNT II: Secret of he Ooze wasnt anything close to legendary, it was still koo though.

Jeremy, I highly, highly recommend you watch the TMNT cartoon that started in 2003. It's based off of the very first version there ever was of the Turtles (the comics). I think you'd like it. It's got action, story arcs, it's funny...it's got Utroms...

I had just recently rewatched tmnt 1985 and like you, realised that it still holds up...it is beyond a kids nostolgia film, it is indeed a "good film" In a project I have been working on I have been revisiting a lot of the stuff I watched as a kid, and some of it has not stood the test of time very well. I used to love james bond jr when i was younger...now...not so much...well anyway...great review, im a big fan of your work and like to consult it if im iffy on a film and need some input
