Man, Rose still looks back at this from today and he takes blame for it. That's what makes a true player. If the Chicago Bulls lose a game he takes blame for it.
Derrick rose might have choked here, but he's one of the best players in the NBA right now. So what if he choked against the heat, the Heat choked in the finals, and it was at home.
@xXGermszXx There was never a situation were Rose could have tied it. The game was tied 79-79, james hit a 3 to make it 82-79, rose was fouled and made 1/2 free throws, game was 82-80, bulls fouled, heat made 1/2, so the bulls were down 83-80, and with a few seconds left, Rose takes a 3 and misses so the game ended. It really wasn't a choking situation. A choking situation would be if they were down 82-80, and he had 3 free throws but made 1 of them.
@dclaver2 that's choking and lebron hit the 3 to tie the game at 79-79 SMH how much u know and then james hit the leading changing jumper to make it 81-79 off a rose turnover. Rose had a chance to tie the game when he was fouled and did the same thing here and choke and miss one key free throw.
The most painful loss EVER as a Memphis Tiger it was like dying a sloooooow painful death I didnt watch ESPN for a month after that game. I hate Mario Chalmers btw. On the flip side we wouldve been stripped of it anyway bc of that snake Calapari so it doesnt sting as much but still painful to watch.
The reason why memphis lost isn't because they chocked or so some extent can't shoot free throws, (those it plays a factor into it.) The reason why the lost is because a dumbass name Chris DoucheBag-Roberts thought he was the shit and stood still allowing no time to come off the clock so he could shoot free throws. Idc how good he was everyone know dont let the other team foul you so easily!!!!
I looked it up...Memphis wasn't even in the Final Four in 2008. This clip must have been made with editing software because the NCAA says it never happened.
Free throws weren't the big mistake. The mistake was Antonio stealing the ball and forcing that pass to CDR. All he had to do was dribble the clock away. If Kansas had lost, they would have had to vacate. The winner never has to vacate. N.c. State didn't. UNLV didn't. UCLA with Harrick didn't.
Thank god he missed those free throws, because just think once the truth came out that how Calipari was violating NCAA rules in recruiting. Then it's easier to strip a final four appearance that a championship, man why does the world see that Joh Calipari is a slim ball.
Yeah, i remember this like it was yesterday. Earlier that day everybody and their mama had on TIGER gear,we were soooooo excited.Once the game started, Memphis was like a ghost town.Driving down the streets of memphis, no cars can be seen for miles. When we lost the game i was soooo shocked i couldn't believe it. I dont care what nobody say MEMPHIS IS THE BEST AND WE ALL WAYS BE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, Kansas had nothing to do with scoring on 10 of their last 14 possessions or making 12 of their last free throws in a row. There was also at least 3 technicals not called on Memphis.
@DerekSnyder89 exactly... there's only 2 teams.. 1 team has to lose.. that was memphis.. so by default kansas had to win.. stfu. of course they won it, u have to make plays to win a championship LITTLE BOY
And by 'streetballers' you mean what?............ actual 1st round talent? Sorry that Memphis had a much more talented team, then Kansas hit a miracle shot after playing 3 minutes of hack-a-shaq?
5 players on this team were drafted into the NBA. Plus Sherron Collins, Cole Aldrich, Russell Robinson. Yeah, not very deep or talented. I see what you mean.
@Jim62787 Ok, that's two players compared to 5 and the others I mentioned...so...um...what? My point still stands: KU was extremely talented and deep. What the hell are you talking about?
for Gods sake, make ur dam free throws, this game was ugly. Kansas closed like a race horse too, lol. Eh, memphis from that year was still one of the best teams ive ever seen in college basketball. Kansas just kinda took the NC away from em like theyve been there before (wich they have). Memphis was kinda the new kid on the block, unfamiliar with what it took to finish and win the biggest game. I think itll help em in the long run
The missed free throws get too much attention. Kansas started fouling with a little under two minutes to play and Memphis went 7-for-11 from the line after that. Not too good, but, really, not all that awful either. A bigger reason for the loss, almost never pointed out, is that Memphis was 1-for-10 from the floor in the last seven minutes.
If Douglas Roberts makes his free throws with 16.8 seconds left that makes it a two possession ball game the same goes with Derrick Rose had both those free throws gone in with 10.8 seconds left, it makes it a two possession ball game. Memphis clearly would've won this game, if both Roberts and Rose would've hit their free throws.
Certainly there would have been a 99 percent chance of Memphis winning had it hit all of its free throws down the stretch. I'm not denying the crucial role missed free throws played. But they still had a chance to recover and win in OT, which they flittered away with a pitiful performance from the floor. Also, Kansas finished the game by scoring on 11 of its last 14 possessions, and it bothers me how these two facts always get glossed over and all we ever hear about are the free throws.
I think Mario hitting a three towards the end of regulation, when no one expected him to might've overwhelmed the memphis players. That could've been the reason why they were completely out of sync during the overtime.
Yah they looked a bit shocked. I dunno tho, as a memphis fan, all of us where like, WTF.............. We kindof had this feeling that it was over somehow, like all momentum was absolutely shot after Mario hit that three. We all knew it was over, i think maybe the team lost hope too
Because the FT's are part of "choking the game away". The 3ptr has nothing to do with Memphis choking. If you want to see the 3ptr, both of my other vids on this game have it.
How does missin FT's make someone an idiot? He jus choked under pressure thats all there is to it. kansas played real hard so did memphis. The fault in my opinion was the dorsi play i mean y the heck would a big man foul on the perimeter knowing he will get fouled out?

ahh (sigh), the weakness of overconfidence that doesn't match up with preperation. Calipari is the true culprit here for letting his players (who are MORE than capable of hitting free throws) get away with missing FT's during the season
Calipari is to arrogant to try to improve his teams weak points, he had quotes all year about how it wasnt a big deal. Dude is just vile and the way his players play reflects it; basketball gods spoke on this game, this is what happens when you sell you soul
