The Artist kinda deserves it. (If only not for those Weinsteins!) But NO ONE can defeat Martin Scorsese if he's up for BEST DIRECTOR. Even though the Academy always had a wrong choice of film for honoring him, he's always the brilliant film-maker no matter what. I watched the Oscar just to see him bag his second trophy, not to lose to some fuckin Frenchguy who barely speaks English.

Also, for a guy who's only made five films in his entire career, that equates to being nominated for Best Director 40% of the time -- not too shabby if you ask me. His first two films are indisputably regarded as masterpieces, and given that his least favorably received movie is The New World, I wouldn't exactly call him hit or miss

Hugo is so overrated, it drives me insane. its an okay movie but that's it. and 3d in general just doesn't work.

Scorsese doesn't know how to pace a proper kids film, and he's no good at directing humor, plus the story is so unfocused its just like wow.

if anyone should win best director it should be Terrance malick or the guy who did the artist.

I once heard say that Woody Allen was very private and not a "joiner." every year the

Academy invites him to join, and every year he respectfully declines. at Michael's Pub, in the past, He played clarinet every Monday night when not shooting a movie, so he always

had a prior commitment. It is believed that he started this practice to avoid attending the Academy Awards when at the time the Academy was always held on Monday nights.
