@zdavidli Yes it can happen, the key to prevention is... do not grip the racquet tightly, grip the racquet as if you're holding a small bird, loosely, keep the arm loose like spaghetti and DO NOT try to muscle the ball. Deep tissue massage of the forearm after play is also a great preventive measure. All the best, Tom
The brush gives you the idea of what you're doing to the ball with the racket strings. You brush the ball from 7 to 1 to impart the topspin. All the best, Tom
If you're referring to the topspin serve you'll want it slightly over the head, so you're looking up at the ball and if you let it drop it would land on your face. In that way you can get the racket head to make contact moving low to high, brushing the ball from the 7 o'clock position to the 1 o'clock position, to impart the topspin.
I'm right hander and I would like to know precisely in which spot should we toss the ball. I know that the ball have to be tossed lower than in the flat or slice serve, but should it be more toward the right, or in the center?
Do you suggest to use a loop toss?
Thank you Tom for the other drills! I understand the motion now!
So when you do a top spin serve, then there is no pronation for this serve right? I tried to pronate but it's a bit difficult. Am I doing it right? I hit a flat serve by pronating and it's great, but I don't think you can pronate with a top spin serve. It is the pronation after the serve for the top spin. Is it right?
@didanhtennis Don't think about pronating so much, but, you WILL naturally pronate even when executing a topspin serve, just let it happen naturally don't force it. All the best, Tom
either try to toss it less forward that you do with a flat serve and have it above your head. so the ball is a bit ahead of you but above. if you dont use a backhand grip to serve you should try it. i think of this serve as if im slicing it, but slicing it parallel to the baseline as i rotate my body to the opposite side
@orientaltony simple answer: practice lol no for real. it took me a lot of practice to actually get contact on the strings as i used to frame it all the time! try tossing a little above your head towards 11 o'clock. you may need to arch your back a bit. once you get this down you can try tossing either at 12 or between 12 and 1 as this is where i'm comfortable at. also if a continental grip doesn't work for you try rotating it towards a eastern backhand which helps. ask someone if you don't kno
can a topspin serve hurt your arm like throwing a curveball?

I'd call that a kick serve where it travels left thru the air and bounces high and towards the right

Great video. Thanks, the way you serve looked effortless but there was some wicked spin on that serve. I like it.
