I really like onlive, but its bandwidth usage is a huge-ass problem. I also like the frame rate, although another problem is controller reaction time.
So this means I can play Battlefield play4free on my Asus Eee PC 1005HA with no problem, I mean I have a 1.60GHz cpu, 1GB of ram, 500GB hard drive and game booster.
the only problem with onlive is any games which are not being played but you play may get taken off and will never be streamed again. So lets say ut3 gets no more activity and there is only a handful of servers. They will just remove it and move on to a different game. Which I feel is not worth buying a game to not be able to use it after. But A subscription would have made more sense.
@BunchyMountain You're right about availability issues. We've even seen games pulled from Steam recently in their little tiff with EA. OnLive actually does offer a subscription service as well, it just does not included the newest releases.
@right2byte EA's petty rivalry for their mediocre client is nothing new. They always need to make a competition of everything.
Since their subscription does not cover newer titles I would not find it worth it since they already have most new releases on for full price and not for rent.
@right2byte Those EA games that got removed from Steam? Yeah, I can redownload all of them if I've purchased them before. I can still download my copy of Crysis 2.
Dude - Love it. Your video is what the YouTube community is missing, a real, down to earth, review. Not ruined by movie makeup (editing everything out ect), and your very honest. Love how there isn't an advertisement either. Please keep up the good work!!
Onlive absolutely sucks. It takes 2 seconds for every response. If you move the mouse quickly, you can watch the cursor move a second later. And I've used it on 3 separate high speed connections, same old shit. It's completely pointless.
onlive will be a lot better when there is somewhat of a player base. multiplayer is crap right now. it will never be what PSN or Live are but if it gets a little better i might recommend it more.
to take a hit in sales. imagine a game designed exclusively for onlive, they could make it look as real as they want as long as their servers can handle it. Onlive has the ease of use of a console, and the ability for its hardware to be constantly upgraded without consumers needing to purchase anything more. they just need to perfect the streaming, which i think they will shortly
guys ive seen the future and it is onlive. if they can improve the latency issues this will be huge. This has the capability of being even better than pc games. eventhough we have the technology to make games look really really good now, game developers choose not to because compatibility issues. PC games don't look as good as they could because game developers dont want
Wait so it doesn't matter what graphics card i have? All that matters is how good my connection is and the better the connection the better the graphics and smoothness of the game? It sounds to good to be real or am i missing something?
@right2byte Awesome i can see this being used by everyone in about 5 years when they get the latest games , you can talk to people in your game and invite people to party's and when broadband gets faster. Can't wait it could even happen even earlier. Genius Idea!
@recentdan123 Yeah i played yesterday Metro 2033, Dirt 3 and Homefront on a 5yrs old laptop :D Onlive is just amazing if you have fast internet connection
Onlive in concept is very unique and the idea that all you need is an internet connection to play will be appealing. However even with a good internet connection there is about a 1/4 second lag on your controls, which completely changes the experience. Their game library is pretty small also. Plus your paying a good amount of money also, thirty bucks a game and a hundred bucks for the console.
@GorakTheBig 1/4th of a second is 250ms latency. I do not experience anything near this about 90% of the time. My latency is usually under 50ms, around the 30s. That's unde 1/30th of a second, very hard to detect. The controller is rated one of the lowest latency wireless controllers among the big name consoles; further trying to compensate for the inevitable lag. However, your 250ms latency is most likely due to your ISP and not the Onlive service.
as of right now Cloud gaming is pretty limited and not that much better than playing on a console, performance and graphics wise, but maybe it will improve over time. I also don't like the fact I don't actually on the game, as in a digital copy.
@AiurProtoss this is the mistake most people are making. if you own an up to date console or a pc gaming rig, ONLIVE IS NOT FOR YOU. its targeted to those that cannot afford those and is an alternative. Because onlive is a streamer service meaning youre playing on their computer through internet, youre going to come across general complications like delays in movements(in fps especially) and sometimes onlive cant even run the games correctly(their computer sucks) etc etc.
I Know that, the guy I was debating with resorted to calling me a racial slur when I clearly made my point to him. The next day his account was deactivated. LOL.
It runs flawlessly on my Eee 901, though I usually play it on my Macbook. Neither laptop runs games very well natively. Great demo of what OnLive really is.

@recentdan123 You got it. OnLive's servers are the machines that actually run the game. All you're seeing is a video stream of that sent to you.
