There's nothing wrong with having an open marriage, just as long as the two partners agree. As for myself I am a trans woman who is married to a woman. We have known each other for years, so there was no need for either of us to start over again. We are happy in our marriage. But like yourself I have seen men as well.

Morgan and I have much more than commitment and friendship... however, to the heart of the question.. why?
Morgan can't give me everything that I want, and I can't give her everything she wants. There are just some things that she's not into or that I'm not into and so on. This is the same with most any relationship, and instead of just accepting that, we have created a space where we can go out and get those things from other places, in a safe and fun way. It can be any of those things. I understand that. I once went out with someone and it was a nightmare as well. I got lost, picked her up, made ass out of self by getting lost while she was in the car, she was meat hating vegan who complained about my food, made a stink about meat breath after she kisses me... Then I finally get this thing home and she calls me the next day saying she had fun and wanted to do it again. This is before I transitioned btw. I don't mind vegans, but don't mess with my beef. ^_^
At least I didn't mention the cat vomit... the cats also go into the pasta that we'd left on the counter overnight and Galileo, our boy cat, ate it and then barfed it up under the sofa.... oh god that was so gross.
Haha well it could be worse...I am 15 so here i am with my new dog in the car takeing him from the dog park and he vomits all over me..!! like eww!!! lol my mom and dad were like clean it up and i was like ur kidding right.. um I know this is strange but I have some transgneder questions i would like to ask you.
This is why I always let the dog sit on my lap but point his head/rest his front paws on another person's lap :3 No dog is going to vomit on ME.I love my clothes far too much.
I don't really get jealous. Jealousy is usually based around insecurities like "what if she likes this person more than me?" or other things like that. But since Morgan and I have made a commitment to spend the rest of our lives together, not to mention being 100% open and honest about our feelings we don't really have to deal with that question.
Besides, I'm the one who she comes home to every night... not them.
It definitely takes a lot of work to get to this kind of place though.
u 2 have a really strong relationship =] i wish i wouldnt get jealous so0 much but i doubt ill change that, its hard =[ thanks 4 answering, by the way i love ur videos!
Good vid. I'm glad you've shown this aspect of your relationships. It certainly exposed how others feel about those are comfortable with poly relationships. Its clear that you and Morgan have found good ways handling it. You guys are an inspiration.
It takes getting used to. The cable car, the fact that it was built OVER a mountain instead of around it, the people being friendly and talkative to even complete strangers, and plenty else are so different from both NY and LA. I love it up there.
Glad to see you're doing alright. Welcome to CA! ^_^
Probably that glitch where you watch a video then a day or two later it shows up again in the subscriptions area then you have to click it again to clear it then a day or two later it's back again.... kinda like herpes.
Sometimes I wish I was able to do the whole open relationship thing, but I have to many little insecurities that lead to jealousy. It's awesome that it works for you and Morgan though! Glad everything is going great in SF! Love watching you Vlogs btw.
hey grishno. love you videos. i was watching this as i was eating breakfast and almost gaged when i heard you talking about cat poop!!!! lol. im glad that your day turned out better and it started. i need some advice about this guy i like. if you have any advice please drop a line. keep doing everything you do.I LOVE YOU!!!!!
I'm more than happy to offer advice, though I still feel a bit out of my depth when it comes to dating guys. Anything in particular that you need advice on?
It seems like you hade a rough day, hope you and morgan like living in SF :) I can't see myself beeing in an open realasionship, but its cool that it works for other people, and no one can judge or say they don't approv, because no one has asked what they think ;) Love your vlog :)
My ex's ex girlfriend asked me out. My other mum is cheating on my sisters dad. A guy who likes me, and I like him came into school stoned. And seriously ripped every guy away from me, then told me not to look at them. Pretty much picked me up and placed me on the counter and wouldn't let me leave. My day was fabulously horrid. But meh. Sounds like yours was half good bad. Congrats on the date.
Welcome to SF Erin. Give it time you will get to know your way around. what did you two do with your car? You'll need one if you decide to go anywhere besides the bay area.
I actually like the idea of open relationships--it just gives flexibility!
I wish I was in SF--i've always wanted to go. And yo useem like an awesome, genuine person which is hard to find in los angeles (just moved here too from the east coast not too long ago!) :)
Well, monogamy is the rule in our species, & polygamy is the exception, & for good reason. Men & women learned that caring for each other exclusively increased the odds that their offspring would survive such lengthy childhoods. Species that need both parents to successfully raise a child tend to be monogamous (beavers, vultures.) Tribes that were polygamous tended to share the responsibility raising of children among the entire tribe. In humans, monogamy works, but there are always exceptions.
Polygamy is one man with many wives... polyamory is very different from that.
Also, I could point to a lot of people who say the exact same thing about gender. Just replace "monogamy" with "gender" in your comment and you've got the kind of thing that we're fighting.
Both monogamy and gender are creations of society, which is why I find it odd how so many transfolk seem to have such a problem with me being poly. Apparently some societal construction are meant to be broken and others aren't?
Oh, I don't have a problem with it. If you want to try something & you're not hurting anyone, by all means go for it. Loving more than one person is obviously possible, but you can't tell me that jealous husbands who shoot the philanderers they catch with their wives are doing this because social mores say open marriage is wrong. Something VERY deep in the psyche drives one to enragement so strong that they commit murder. I dislike using the word instinct, but monogamy certainly *seems* innate.
Definitely an interesting topic... though I think that the domestic violence based on cheating doesn't really relate to open relationships. That kind of violence and jealousy is a result of broken trust. If you have a monogamous marriage and someone breaks that then there is a place ripe for jealousy, whereas Morgan and I will bring it up with each other if we ever begin to feel jealous, and figure out a way to fix it before it becomes a problem.
Just out of curiosity, how would you handle a situation where someone you dated became fond of you, but didn't like Morgan? Does everyone have to like everyone, or are their specific "deal-breakers?" Forgive my ignorance. I'm really interested in knowing how you make this work.
If I never learn anything else about you Erin, I'm astounded at how you are able to keep track of all these different people making all these different comments. I remember the days when my brain could juggle 20 things at once. Ahhh... long gone.
My day was kinda boring. I'm waiting on pins and needles for my new laptop to arrive. And I'm reading the third book of the Looking Glass Wars Trilogy. Imma nerd. lol.
Glad your date went well Erin..despite the early craziness:)...he sounds like a nice bloke.
...ok as far as my day goes, I got up about 11:30am..I've got about a week off work yeah!:). I had a guitar lesson this afternoon, much fun:)! & I just got back from a poker game. Didn't do very well but still, love that game (lol).
I so know what you're talking about. Wilmington, NC, where I just moved from, has no hill bigger than a speed bump. Now I'm in Portland, OR, where everything is on a hill and there are mountains in the middle of the city. It's actually pretty wonderful, but it's taking some time to get my legs reacquainted with grades. To make it even more of an adventure, my partner--a marathoner-- loves having me along when she goes out for runs. Luckily she's patient (I'm up to 5 hilly miles now). :)
You'd be surprised how quickly you might acclimate, especially if you are already in a hilly environ. Two months ago I could barely run a mile at half her pace. Now I'm matching her at 5 miles on the hills (tho' I'm breathing a lot louder than she is). It only takes practice--something it sounds like you are going to be getting a bunch of now... Enjoy! :)
i am never moving there. me and hills do not get along. thanks for letting us know. lol im glad u had a good date once you got past all the obsticals. cant wait for more vids!!
Morgan and Erin don't need anyones approval apart from their own. It won't change a thing if you write something like "I don't like what you're doing". Just let them live the way they chose to live.
Glad to see that you are adjusting to San Fran. I hear you on the hills. I have to deal with mountains though not quite as steep as the hills of San Fran. Your relationship with Morgan is what it is and both of you are happy and in the end that is what counts not what other people think but you already know that! :)
I guess so... though to me it's just a normal part of life. I refuse to let society tell me how I should be because, at least to me, a lot of it doesn't make sense. I don't let society tell me what gender I should be, so why should I listen when they tell me how my relationship should be?
Exactly, if only everyone could be so open with themselves though. Who knows, maybe the society of uhh... 10, maybe 15 years from now will be full of Erins. :o
I think it's great that you and Morgan are able to have an open marriage and be completely fine with that. I don't think it's something I'd ever do within a marriage but that's me (:
It's certainly not for everyone, that's for sure. It takes a lot of work and is a lot harder than a normal monogamous relationship because the communication level required to make things work is so much higher. It took a lot of work for us to be able to do this successfully, but I can totally agree that it isn't for everyone.
Yes a much different world yet wonderful in many aspects as NY is wonderful in many aspects. Open marraige wow! Its great that you guys can be honest with yourselves and each other and move forward happily in your daily lives. Wish you all the best!! ♥
Making the commitment to spend the rest of our lives together and to raise a family together has nothing to do with monogamy... at least not to us. If anything we're being more loyal to each other because of the immense amount of communication that now happens between us. I just don't understand how monogamy is equal to loyalty...?
Thanks Bethany. I'm definitely being safe. That is one of the things that is really important to Me and Morgan... making sure that we're both being safe so that we're still here for eachother. It's actually a lot easier to be safe since I have Morgan. She always knows where I am going to be going and when to expect me back and will even call and give me an excuse to leave the date if I need. We're a team! YAY! Go team!
Maybe... but I'm coming from NYC which as 70% of the nations subway stops. I'm used to being able to get anywhere in the city within 45 minutes for only $2. SF is still great, but it's nowhere near the level of NYC.
That and I still feel totally lost on public transit here.
He said that funding for SRS has been cutback tho but i'm just seeking medical supervision, which i'll be gettting from Charing Cross Hospital in London. If it's paid for by my Primary Care Trust(NHS ) well and good but if not then i'm just gonna save, save, save. I love the the fact your so honest in your vlogs. xx
Was the kiss good enough to have made it all worthwhile? My day? Mmm, well yesterday i went to my local mental health unit where i talked to a Dr about my gender identity. I was quite amazed that within the hour i gave him my essential history from childhood to now, and he asked some very pointed questions about my sexuality and relationships and i did want to give him a full a picture of me as possible. In the end he told me i did have a GID(!) and would be writing to my health authority (NHS)
Hello again, Erin. I forgot to ask... This guy you had the date with wasn't the same guy who followed you home(!)? (that you mentioned in your last video)
Hi, Erin. I remember Lombard Street... when I was 10-12 years old our family went across country in the trailer and we visited San Francisco. I also remember the cable cars... I've also been told San Francisco is very friendly to the LGBT community. I don't see all your videos, so perhaps I missed it... but, if it's not too personal, did you want to 'leave' New York, or did you want to 'be' in San Francisco? Why? Was it perhaps just that one of you were offered a better job in San Francisco?
We were very happy in nyc but we wanted a change so when morgans job had the opportunity to transfer to the bay area we took it. It's definitely a big change and there is a lot of bittersweetness too it... I do really miss nyc... but in the end I think it is the right move for us since we're looking to start settling down soon and this is the first step.
In my entire life, I've never seen a "poly" relationship hold up. Inevitably *someone* gets jealous, but that's what life is all about... experimenting and learning from our experiences.
I'm going to second morgan here. We have a weekly check in and scheduling event where we talk about what's going on with other people and schedule out our time so that we know what to expect throughout the week.
As for jealousy... honestly, I just don't get it. Sure, if morgan started spending 5 days a week with someone else I'd get jealous, but we'd never get to that point because we'd discuss it first.
Besides, divorce rate is over 60%... I would give Morgan and I better odds though.
"As for jealousy... honestly, I just don't get it."
Have you seen all the different ways in which jealously can manifest? Ever hear the phrase "crimes of passion?" My sis is a NYC cop. 90% of domestic disputes involve a third wheel, and ANY of the three can be the cause. Simply because you communicate doesn't guarantee unspoken feelings aren't harbored. I admire your counter-culture attitude, but society didn't create human monogamy, 100,000 years of evolution did. You're playing with fire.
Erin, you and Morgan are remarkable people and are a snap shot of the future in many ways in my opinion.Perhaps open marriage is like open love, you don't put chains on another persons heart and tell them what they can and cannot do.Your openness attests to your honesty and honesty speaks for itself.Another thing i like about you and morgan is, you directly say what you feel...........
omg i cant beleave u like men so u like men and women i dont get it !! i have a tranny gf and im a tranny aswell and i would never leave her for a man or cheat on her with 1 smh!! u and morgan need to have a talk and i think u guys are only to getther to pay the rent smh!! so sad
I'll be frank, I love morgan more than anything in the world and the fact that you would go as far as to suggest that I am only with her for the money pisses me the fuck off.
That's great that you look/looked up to me, and I think that it is extremely sad (for you) that that would changed based on the relationship model that morgan and I have chosen. We've been poly for over a year and it's been the best year of our lives.
If you don't agree then fine, but DON'T presume to know me.
Being friends with both Erin and Morgan I can tell you that they are so loving. How dare you pull this trannier then thou bullshit. There is no cheating going on or leaving. Please pull your head out of your ass.
An open marriage is so cool. So anyways, your fun time with the hills has made my day. Thank you. So, like what did the dude look like? Give a girl a visual here! LOL, but that's good that you had a good time.
If things end up going further with him then maybe i'll have to introduce him... I didn't introduce my last couple of boyfriends though... just wasn't their thing.
your "open marriage" is part of the reason the GLBTQ community has such a hard time being respected. how can we expect people to not think of us as FREAKS (and grant us our rights) when people like you are abusing your PRIVLEGE. If you want to fuck around, dont get married. Maybe that way there will be hope for those of us who are in LONG TERM COMMITED relationships.
Well, my day....I woke up went on the computer, had a shower, cleaned my room, did some laundry. Then later got high and painted a picture as well as photocopy some artwork for a portfolio. THEN My mom came home with groceries so I ate the cinnamon bun that she got me. :D around 8 I watched ANTM and worked out and that's pretty much how my day went...or what I did today. Not too exciting but I got a little done!
He does. I tell people before the first date so that a) I don't get into an unsafe situation and b) I don't get attached to someone and then rejected.
Oh I know! It's great! Morgan also dates other people, it's not just a one way street. Funny thing is though, I think I turned her into a tranny chaser because in NYC she was also dating a very nice transman.
my day was fun bit thats the wether in cali one moment its cool then the next it could be like 100 dogrees

It is more complex, but if you have the right tools to deal with situations then it's no different than any other relationship.
And that show sounds like the equivalent of judging all lesbians based on the L word.

im curious how do u deal with an open relationship? im crazy jealous! dont u get jealous or anything?
babyfirefly118 2 years ago
I don't really get jealous. Jealousy is usually based around insecurities like "what if she likes this person more than me?" or other things like that. But since Morgan and I have made a commitment to spend the rest of our lives together, not to mention being 100% open and honest about our feelings we don't really have to deal with that question.
Besides, I'm the one who she comes home to every night... not them.
It definitely takes a lot of work to get to this kind of place though.

It will take little while to explain and then hopefully you will not be considered strange or judged.

You keep riding up those hills you're going to have killer calfs. :D

What'd ~I~ do today? I ran errands and stuff.
As for San Fran... lol
It takes getting used to. The cable car, the fact that it was built OVER a mountain instead of around it, the people being friendly and talkative to even complete strangers, and plenty else are so different from both NY and LA. I love it up there.
Glad to see you're doing alright. Welcome to CA! ^_^

Erica2Lives 2 years ago
Polygamy is one man with many wives... polyamory is very different from that.
Also, I could point to a lot of people who say the exact same thing about gender. Just replace "monogamy" with "gender" in your comment and you've got the kind of thing that we're fighting.
Both monogamy and gender are creations of society, which is why I find it odd how so many transfolk seem to have such a problem with me being poly. Apparently some societal construction are meant to be broken and others aren't?
grishno 2 years ago
Oh, I don't have a problem with it. If you want to try something & you're not hurting anyone, by all means go for it. Loving more than one person is obviously possible, but you can't tell me that jealous husbands who shoot the philanderers they catch with their wives are doing this because social mores say open marriage is wrong. Something VERY deep in the psyche drives one to enragement so strong that they commit murder. I dislike using the word instinct, but monogamy certainly *seems* innate.
Erica2Lives 2 years ago
Very lively discussion here BTW. Quite an interesting topic (lol)
Erica2Lives 2 years ago
Definitely an interesting topic... though I think that the domestic violence based on cheating doesn't really relate to open relationships. That kind of violence and jealousy is a result of broken trust. If you have a monogamous marriage and someone breaks that then there is a place ripe for jealousy, whereas Morgan and I will bring it up with each other if we ever begin to feel jealous, and figure out a way to fix it before it becomes a problem.
Yay for processing. =)
grishno 2 years ago
Just out of curiosity, how would you handle a situation where someone you dated became fond of you, but didn't like Morgan? Does everyone have to like everyone, or are their specific "deal-breakers?" Forgive my ignorance. I'm really interested in knowing how you make this work.
Erica2Lives 2 years ago
That's actually never come up... although I'm pretty sure that if someone didn't like morgan then I probably wouldn't get along with them very well.
grishno 2 years ago

grishno 2 years ago
I so know what you're talking about. Wilmington, NC, where I just moved from, has no hill bigger than a speed bump. Now I'm in Portland, OR, where everything is on a hill and there are mountains in the middle of the city. It's actually pretty wonderful, but it's taking some time to get my legs reacquainted with grades. To make it even more of an adventure, my partner--a marathoner-- loves having me along when she goes out for runs. Luckily she's patient (I'm up to 5 hilly miles now). :)
motleybits 2 years ago
That's impressive. I used to smoke but quit a couple years back. I still don't think I can run more than a mile though.
grishno 2 years ago
You'd be surprised how quickly you might acclimate, especially if you are already in a hilly environ. Two months ago I could barely run a mile at half her pace. Now I'm matching her at 5 miles on the hills (tho' I'm breathing a lot louder than she is). It only takes practice--something it sounds like you are going to be getting a bunch of now... Enjoy! :)

Morgan and Erin don't need anyones approval apart from their own. It won't change a thing if you write something like "I don't like what you're doing". Just let them live the way they chose to live.
Carwyn79 2 years ago 2
Glad to see that you are adjusting to San Fran. I hear you on the hills. I have to deal with mountains though not quite as steep as the hills of San Fran. Your relationship with Morgan is what it is and both of you are happy and in the end that is what counts not what other people think but you already know that! :)

stripyWitch 2 years ago
I guess so... though to me it's just a normal part of life. I refuse to let society tell me how I should be because, at least to me, a lot of it doesn't make sense. I don't let society tell me what gender I should be, so why should I listen when they tell me how my relationship should be?
grishno 2 years ago
Exactly, if only everyone could be so open with themselves though. Who knows, maybe the society of uhh... 10, maybe 15 years from now will be full of Erins. :o

Haha, I'm unsure if that would be a good thing or a bad thing. I'm going to assume good though.

I think it's great that you and Morgan are able to have an open marriage and be completely fine with that. I don't think it's something I'd ever do within a marriage but that's me (:
thelastgirl10 2 years ago
It's certainly not for everyone, that's for sure. It takes a lot of work and is a lot harder than a normal monogamous relationship because the communication level required to make things work is so much higher. It took a lot of work for us to be able to do this successfully, but I can totally agree that it isn't for everyone.
grishno 2 years ago
Yes a much different world yet wonderful in many aspects as NY is wonderful in many aspects. Open marraige wow! Its great that you guys can be honest with yourselves and each other and move forward happily in your daily lives. Wish you all the best!! ♥

What's the point of being married if you're going out with others? Kind of totally defeats the purpose of being loyal to one person. -_-
theoriginaltyler 2 years ago 3
What defines loyalty?
I don't see the contradiction
AsheIsTheRaven 2 years ago
Making the commitment to spend the rest of our lives together and to raise a family together has nothing to do with monogamy... at least not to us. If anything we're being more loyal to each other because of the immense amount of communication that now happens between us. I just don't understand how monogamy is equal to loyalty...?
grishno 2 years ago
hi erin
although i dont personaly agree with it if both you and morgan and fine with it then i wish you two all the best in the future.
all i will say is always stay safe girl as you know morgan, you made that bond with her and got married because of that bond.
in dating new people you dont know them fully and might just come across a wrong'en and get hurt and none of us want that to happen girl.
not every one out there is nice as morgan so stay safe sweety...

Why? Was it perhaps just that one of you were offered a better job in San Francisco?
pmccarthy001 2 years ago
We were very happy in nyc but we wanted a change so when morgans job had the opportunity to transfer to the bay area we took it. It's definitely a big change and there is a lot of bittersweetness too it... I do really miss nyc... but in the end I think it is the right move for us since we're looking to start settling down soon and this is the first step.

In my entire life, I've never seen a "poly" relationship hold up. Inevitably *someone* gets jealous, but that's what life is all about... experimenting and learning from our experiences.
Erica2Lives 2 years ago 3
I'm going to second morgan here. We have a weekly check in and scheduling event where we talk about what's going on with other people and schedule out our time so that we know what to expect throughout the week.
As for jealousy... honestly, I just don't get it. Sure, if morgan started spending 5 days a week with someone else I'd get jealous, but we'd never get to that point because we'd discuss it first.
Besides, divorce rate is over 60%... I would give Morgan and I better odds though.
grishno 2 years ago
"As for jealousy... honestly, I just don't get it."
Have you seen all the different ways in which jealously can manifest? Ever hear the phrase "crimes of passion?" My sis is a NYC cop. 90% of domestic disputes involve a third wheel, and ANY of the three can be the cause. Simply because you communicate doesn't guarantee unspoken feelings aren't harbored. I admire your counter-culture attitude, but society didn't create human monogamy, 100,000 years of evolution did. You're playing with fire.
Erica2Lives 2 years ago
Are most of those "third wheels" invole a cheat on a closed marriage? That is a different beast than something consensual and open.
If Erin is fine breaking "rules" about gender, then she is probably fine breaking some other "rules"...
ainefairygoddess 2 years ago
"you're playing with fire"... wouldn't a lot of people say that about changing ones gender?

Erin, you and Morgan are remarkable people and are a snap shot of the future in many ways in my opinion.Perhaps open marriage is like open love, you don't put chains on another persons heart and tell them what they can and cannot do.Your openness attests to your honesty and honesty speaks for itself.Another thing i like about you and morgan is, you directly say what you feel...........

That's great that you look/looked up to me, and I think that it is extremely sad (for you) that that would changed based on the relationship model that morgan and I have chosen. We've been poly for over a year and it's been the best year of our lives.

your "open marriage" is part of the reason the GLBTQ community has such a hard time being respected. how can we expect people to not think of us as FREAKS (and grant us our rights) when people like you are abusing your PRIVLEGE. If you want to fuck around, dont get married. Maybe that way there will be hope for those of us who are in LONG TERM COMMITED relationships.
ketchuptuesdays 2 years ago
Right....
grishno 2 years ago
shame on you, you ask the world to accept you for who you are yet you dont offer the same respect to others.
I have to say, one thing i hate about the glbtq community is this "please dont judge us" then we go and judge others. Get off your high horse
How Grishno, or any other, chooses to live her live and her marige is none of your business or concern, its hers and her wife's.
