a president that believes his god is black, jesus was a black man that was mistreated by rich white people, black people are righteous, white people are evil and are the enemy. yea thats what america needs. sure it is .
Thank you Obama for bringing some national attention to downtown Altoona. I don't agree with a lot of Obama's politics, but the fact that he got some publicity for our very underrated downtown makes me want him to win the Democratic nomination.
Personally, I don't like either of the 3 candidates, but this helped Obama out big time as far as my perception of him.
It's funny how a lot of high school kids will complain how Altoona sucks and Altoona's boring, but the truth is, there are places a lot worse than Altoona. Many plan to move to New York or LA to get some "real excitement", but never do, or they do, and move back saying that the big city isn't what they thought it would be. Most cities are like Altoona, or even a little worse. It's a lot better than Detroit, Flint, Gary, and most rust belt cities, and no worse than Pittsburgh or Harrisburg.
Please note that I've graduated high school, though that was only a few months ago, so I'm not going to use that as a naive sort of "lol i m mature lol" ploy.
I never wish to move to a big city, as I can't stand people and crowds. I've been to New York City (though only driving through) and I stayed in LA for five days. I liked neither, and would never want to live in either. I do know that, unless you want a terrible office job or to be a manual laborer, you've almost no opportunities here.
That's one of the harsh realities of life. Most cities in general don't offer loads of great job opportunities. You have to look for what's there. You forgot the medical field and teaching, other big job providers here. You could start a business, too, but there's all that red tape (it's the idiot councilmens' fault, though, not the city as a whole). But personally, I think living in downtown Altoona beats those tract-home suburbs you see outside of cities (yes, including Altoona).
Most cities offer employment in someone's career path. Unless you have a bizzare career idea, that is, in which case you'll have to live near or in a big city, since the fact is, small cities don't offer a lot of weird jobs.
Anyways, what is your career path? I'm 75% sure you'll find it in or around Altoona, despite what you think.
Computer programming. Few companies in this area require anything but canned software. Generally speaking, the more dense the population, the more likely it is you'll find jobs in programming, as that's where the companies that need programmers are. The northwest is also more likely to have programming jobs.
There are some decent computer programming jobs around here, but you have to look for them. While it's true that the northwest (actually, the whole west coast) is a great place for computer programming jobs, the cost of living in or near cities like Seattle almost erases the better income you'd have there than here.
I agree. I've lived here all my life (besides a short time I attended school in NYC - which is a place I loved living in) and it just gets worse every year. I do agree with MVillani that it isn't as bad as a lot of other places, yeah we have drugs and murders but nothing compared to a place like Detroit. It's just that as far as making a living there's nothing here for anyone.

I'n not sure what Altoona, PA you live in, but the one I'm from is pretty awful, and just needs to die, like it has been for years.

...or you could do what anyone with 3/4 of a brain would and move to a city with a chance of employment in their carreer path.

If by "here" you mean "the state of Pennsylvania", then yes. Otherwise, I've seen only a couple programming jobs all summer.
