I totally agree that peoples objection to socialism is often irrational. In UK we have a National Insurance scheme which covers all welfare needs and a saftey net for those that do not have NI contributions. The National Health Service implemented an 'internal market' to create competetive practices. All in all I'm happy to live in a European Socialist society..and believe me so are most of us!! There has been a national consensus for over 60 years.
I feel like we were sort of brainwashed to fear terms like Socialism and Communism growing up, even though both contain good ideas. They aren't perfect, but the same could be said about Capitalism.
yeah i have been "trusting" the damn US government to spend my hard earned "tax money" for the good of the people...and so far they have failed at even that task.
