The baking soda is for the cleansing of the dog's teeth especially for the canines (part of the dog's teeth). You can use Baking Soda and water for brusing your dog's teeth =)

@Ossie91 - sorry very bad advice. Those cow bones can crack your dog's teeth. NO COOKED BONES EITHER! They splinter and can kill your dog by puncturing their intestines.

Use raw meaty bones that are RAW like chicken drumsticks or turkey necks if you want to feed them real bones. Otherwise you can buy things like denta bones that are made in a way that scrapes more tartar off their teeth.

fresh cow bones are soft enough to be ground down by dog's teeth. it's only when they've been hanging around for a few days that they can be dangerous. and yes, i know about cooked bones. on more than one occasion i have had to retrieve a cooked bone from a dog after some idiot has decided it's a good thing to feed them.
