  • Wooo...Mad Skillz !!!!

  • ZOE KEATING CREATING MUSIC FOR THE SOUL; A CELLIST ROCKING HARDER THAN ROCK AND ROLL;

    DEEPER THAN MOST KNOW, GRASPIN MY BRAIN LIKE A LASSO;

    CALMING THE PEASANTS AS WELL AS THE KINGS IN THE CASTLES;

    FULLFILLING THE VOIDS OY MANY, TOUCHING THE SOULS OF ANY;

CREATING BONDS TIGHTER THAN GLUE, ZOE......I SEND THIS FROM ME TO YOU!!

COMPARE OF ALTERED ESSENCE........PEACE & RESPECT!!!!

  • Very cool. I'm adding this to my eclectic mix of stringed favorites, from rock to Romani to Polish hillbilly reggae on my jazzmessenger123 YouTube channel linked to the left in blue below.

  • sometimes I think that some people just go around youtube pressing the dislike button... it just doesn't make sense...

  • Wow... :o

  • Beautiful Work!!

  • Zoe- I just stumbled across you from a post by a musician friend of mine, pointing me to the Wired performance. You're a great example of the bliss of music. One of my greatest joys in the world is watching someone performing, lost in the moment of creation, lost entirely in their craft.. I'm glad to have discovered you and your music, it hits all the right buttons for me.

  • Great, only great!!!

  • Great, only great.

  • Zoe you are an inspiration to indie artist like myself. Making it to Billboard magazine from bandcamp is amazing. I wish the Urban market showed as much support online as your market. Congrats and keep up the good work.

  • I say her in concert today ! ! !

  • I swear I've heard this song before. Does anyone know if this has been featured anywhere that I might've heard it?

  • I think the name of this song is referring to her hairstyle.

  • amazing

  • Nice!

  • let alone how brilliant the music is, i love the background visuals too

  • dont you just hate the guy that claps at 0:33 ?

  • @gonzijermz this is my first time seeing this and I INSTANTLY though the same thing like wtf man.

  • @gonzijermz Americans are clap-happy, in my experience. Premature Clapping Syndrome.

  • this song is well named

  • @Gesmehod i dont get it is this a tetris theme music?

  • @M8E8L Hmmm, I also thought that this would be the Tetris theme when I saw the title.

  • Check out Matt Howden on you tube (Sieben). I wonder if it would be a great idea to do some project together...I think they're matched! (He plays Violin and builds up a song with a loop pedal from scratch)

  • love her for her passion

    cristal clear heart

  • Wow dan. Way to be a dick :/

  • This is incredibly beautiful

  • thanks zoe - awesome perfomance

  • She make the cello sing to me

  • @danbuter What makes you think she doesn't wash her hair? Because she has dreadlocks? Having dreadlocks means you don't BRUSH your hair. It sure doesn't mean you can't still WASH it.

  • @danbuter

Lice like loose, clean hair better anyway; it's easier for them to move and anchor their eggs.

And dreadlocks don't stay well felted unless they are kept clean, as the oil de-tangles the hair.

Also, Zoe Keating doesn't have dreadlocks anymore, so your comment is irrelevant.

No one likes an ignorant douche.

  • Live looping is soooooooooooo bleepin' cool !

  • beautiful.

  • Zoe Keating is, without a doubt, one of the most worthwhile live performers of this decade.

  • Zoe Keating is, without a doubt, one of the most worthwhile live performers of this decade.

  • i love her too much.

  • love this woman..

  • Wow. This is incredible. The song is so mysterious and adventuring...

    Amazing preformance.

  • I've never cried for music before. This is the most beautiful thing I've ever experienced......wow I sound like I'm on drugs, but I'm not.

  • I absolutely love it, I need more, are there any other artists that follow this type of style? The only other group I know of that are similar in a way is apocalyptica.

  • @snorider Jami Sieber. Look her up now!

  • @snorider Check out Emily Wells

  • @snorider Check out Emily Wells.

so beautiful, i love love love love this.

  • I wonder if she is a Tool fan?

  • ZOE I LOVE YOU!!! i saw you in houston when you were with imogen heap. Please forgive the losers that wouldnt shut up during your performance. I loved it. I bought your cd and havent stopped listening to it. Your incredibly talented!

  • Nice to meet you, Zoe Keating! We had Curt Smith from Tears for Fears on LAGenX Radio this weekend. Great story about how you guys met through YouTube and Twitter. There's a highlight video on our YouTube channel.

  • I love this song, it is my favorite by her, and I think that she plays it better than any other I have literally ever seen in my life :D

  • I love this sort of creativity, working within the confines of the program but pushing the boundaries to the limit.

    Much love.

  • Beautiful.

  • its amazing how she writes none if this down, and yet it is fantastically complex.

  • nice

  • amazing, i love the sound... you can feel every stirng... every part of the song... its beautiful

  • Cello-tastic.

Produces absolutely beautiful music - onward 'n' upward although still like her in her former life with Rasputina

  • Godly. Just godly.

  • She`s the BEST! ^_^

  • She's like the cello version of Dub FX. I love it.

  • She's a true master of art & music!

  • Why does it always take me forever to find this "youtube gems"?!?

    Freakin' sweet!

  • Very nice Zoe, well played and well composed !

  • The truth is you have gone through this ; found obstacles, situations towards the growth and the overview; reversed aspects of your character. Challenge slow fruition, take the crisis at hand, and mold a difficult Passage. The actions you have taken in this scrutiny of initiation will bring depth and altitude. You are recognized and people want to seize the life transforming. Place radical trust to be nothing, void. This magnitude is not reckless. These are your actions

  • gracias

  • Very good. :)

  • this is the most beautifull song in all the world, i can't stop listen her...

  • I wish I could see her live. ^_^

  • ...envol

  • I learned how to play this song on the piano!

  • Wow really!

It's so amazing, I'd love to learn.

Could you by any chance send me tabs or sheet music, or a link to something?

If you can't that's okay, but anything would be greatly appreciated. (:

  • Tell me seriously!

  • Sorry, I can't read sheet music or tabs. I can only play by ear.

  • Beautiful

  • she's got an octopus or something on her head, did well to keep playing

  • beautiful and mesmerizing sound!

  • occilatingly amazing.

    resonating in my very heartstrings.

  • Ive seen her play live in SF, and Zoe is amazing! Whether she is doing her solo looped arrangements, rocking with Rasputina, or accompanying Imogen...she is a pinnacle of art

  • I love your taste in music Curt! Keep it up...

  • loved it

  • Tu musica me inspira tanta paz y armonia, eres un telentosa mujer. suerte en tu vida.

  • that's beautiful

  • your music makes me breathe.

  • Zoe makes me want to play forever.

She is such an inspiration. I can't get enough!

I hope to be like her someday.

  • ive known lots of acts and bands in my day to use loop stations to make the music what it is live. and i gotta say, its something easier said then done. i hate it when people feel the need to put down the use of loop stations. its definatly hard to perfect it.

anyways, zoe, youre basically my new inspiration for everything, haha. im rarly impressed with music these days, and finding this by accident was the biggest blessing ive recieved in the past month. so thanks for doing this.

  • This is so RIDICULOUSLY amazing, I just.. I'm just so grateful to have found her music. I really..honestly..don't think I've yet heard such perfection.

Also, I *really* can appreciate the skill it takes to do what she's doing live. Wow.

  • Fabulous. C'est bien.

  • I like Tetris, awsome game

  • i love her....i own her whole album its so amazing you all should get it it its just so beatiful this is my favorite from her along with fern

  • I want to have sex with this song.

  • god, you freaking said it

  • Amen!

  • @PennyCantabile God, I know what you mean!

  • @PennyCantabile you cant, it's only a song =/

  • @PennyCantabile sex with a song??? try sex while hearing this song :-)

  • I've always been a metalhead. I'm attracted to the intricacies found therein - incredible sweeps, brutal yet beautiful riffs, and incredibly complicated drumming techniques using double bass and hand work. A background as a musician has led me to enjoy hearing the musicianship behind the writing. I don't consider myself closed-minded, but it's not often my head is turned by a musician outside this genre.

The musicianship here is incredible - I have nothing but respect. Amazing work.

  • @twhite828 You've always been a pretentious twat, too.

  • @captainampersand Erm, I attempted to convey that this is way outside my usual taste, but still turned my head because it's so incredible. Whatever pretension you read into it wasn't intentional.

  • @twhite828

    Although I agree with a good 95 percent of what you've stated;

I find nothing brutal about dear Zoe's riffs.

Being a metal head myself, I consider brutal to be break neck pace, or stupidly low tuned breakdowns ( I fucking hate break downs, lol )

But good for you for being so open to this.

    Zoe is certainly an inspiration.

  • @hailmetal16 Haha, I was actually referring to my usual tastes as brutal; I agree, this is certainly not brutal. Definitely beautiful though... :)

  • @twhite828

    Hither twice! :P

    I agree, man.

    You really should do your self a favour and check this band out;

"PsyOpus" . If you like mind melting technicality, you'll adore these guys.

it might take a few listens to get them, and to actually hone in on the patterns, but I assure you, these guys have all spent years in university learning how to play better.

  • @twhite828 having known many metalheads, i can see just how high of praise that comment is.

  • just wonderful

  • What an amazing sound. I don't know whether I want to mosh or cry. A female Trent Reznor. Brilliance. Thanks for the tweet Wil.

  • Im a guitar player and have always wanted to learn the cello, her music is so moving it almost takes you away to another place in time. I love it!

  • I can honestly say that as a musician myself and someone who has studied a lot of music theory, I tend to go through a lot of music that I find rather shallow or lacking depth.

But now and then I find rare gems. I honestly could not bring myself to part the computer during the performance, it had me immediately. Very moving and your use of technology in the song is wonderful.

  • wow. I'm a fan now. ;]

  • 20 years ago, a strange man with a beard and a clown sweater approached me while I was walking down Monroe street in Detroit.

He cluched me and said, "Zoe...Listen to the Cello... It's your only hope for musical happiness in the next Century."

I removed his filthy paws from my Cardigan suit and said, "Son, Cello music is for squares."

Little did I know, many years later how right that odd man was.

  • Simply amazing. You have a new fan (and quite a few others, by all these comments!)

  • Hi. Another Wil Wheaton refugee here!

    Marvelous!

  • Another Wil Wheaton win.

  • Wil Wheaton has good taste. This is brilliant music.

  • I'm also here from Wil's site. If you don't mind my saying, you remind me of Laurie Anderson; both innovate, both playing stringed instruments. I'm off to iTunes to buy an album or two!

  • That is awesome! Looks like a Boomerang phrase sampler she's using. I love that thing!

  • Thnaks to Will for the recommendation and shame, shame, shame for NPR for not even crediting you for the great music! Kudos to Radio Lab, too, for doing what they do.

  • Thank you for recommending this, Wil Wheaton!

  • Wil is how I got here too! Isn't she marvelous?? I've just shared this with a ton of folk and now I gotta get me some of this music! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful . . .

  • I am in love!

  • I am speechless.

  • This is my favorite song by you. I can't even describe how this song makes me feel. Divine.

  • Heard you on Radiolab. You are amazing. I will purchase your albums on iTunes!

  • Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful.

  • Really beautiful.

  • Amazing....

  • Love your music so much Zoe! I can't wait for the next album or when you tour the East Coast again!

  • There are some people out there that remind us that we are mere mortals... Zoe Keating is one of those people.

  • Zoe Keating is one of my favorite things in life. She reminds me why I love art.

  • Too beautiful for words.. ::sigh::.. :)

  • Love it!

  • Zoe Keating has made me go from wanting to play the violin (which i always kinda wanted to learn to play, until i discovered emilie autumn, who inspired me to take orchestra next year) to play cello. and that was after only seeing her play once.

  • I just saw her at the Amanda show in Denver. It was beautiful on so many levels. She truly is an amazing artist.

  • thats what i said, in a nutshell

  • holy... damn! That is awesome.

  • genial....sublime!!

  • Zoe, you are amazing. Flat out amazing. You and Melora Creager have made me fall desperately in love with the cello and all of the sounds a skilled artist can make it project.

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

sometimes art is best left savored.

    1 4 3 A L W A Y S

  • O.O

i thought my fam was the only one who said 143!!

  • It's 5.44am and I am listening to Tetrishead.

    so relaxing !

  • Amazing :3

  • I love your music, and it makes me very happy that you have worked in conjunction with so many of my favourite musicians! It's so bizzare and amazing.

And your music is so simple and relaxing.

    Imogen Heap, Amanda Palmer, Rasputina...

It's also awesome that you're canadian.

    Cello on.

  • this song has always mesmirized me. it is truly beautiful.

  • Wow, I love your solo things! Can't wait to see you with Amanda in the Netherlands!

  • Hi Zoe,

I just arrived home from OpenWorld. Your performance was fantastic. The whole stage ambiance was out of this world. I really thought I was dreaming when I entered Hall D!

    cheers

    C.

  • beautiful stuff. would you ever consider working with a heavy metal band!?

  • Zoe was in Rasputina and worked with other acts like Marylin Manson. Her solo stuff is obviously amazing.

  • I was thinking this! I could see this working with Tool. (The song did sort of remind me of Sober by Tool

  • Beautiful great minimalistic sound

    I curious why Shipping imaginary?

  • I heard your performance and interview on Radio Lab, very exciting stuff! I also saw you play when Rasputina and the Legendary Pink Dots toured together. Any chance you'll be coming around to the St. Petersburg/Tampa area again?

  • This sound is new to me. Reminds me alot of the melodies of Tan Dun's compositions with the layers and atmospherics of Philip Glass. All around it's a very creative execution. I wish I could do this with my guitar lol. Either way, this is a great sound.

  • Absolutely briliant!! Can feel the emotion building throughout the song...awesome

  • Zoe Keating's music is new to me -- as of about half an hour ago. I particularly like the newer material. Minimalist? Not to me. This is a pure and rich sound. I have another hundred or so adjectives. Fantastic stuff.

  • Beautiful.

And I'm so sad I missed the SFO performances.

Will there be any more free shows in the Bay Area?

  • If you're interested, my focus is how all the parts interact together other as a whole, over time. I don't want there to be just one melody, or sometimes even a melody at all, every part gets equal billing. Repetition is an important part of it, both aesthetically and philosophically. Its a form of minimalism and I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. But luckily for everyone, there are a bizillion artists who are already NOT doing what I'm doing. I appreciate your bothering to comment though.

  • repetition deepens and lengthens the moment, minimalism invites reflection.

  • marvelous!

  • A haunting, profound and stunningly beautiful piece of music.

All the hairs have stood up all over my body and my skin is tingling.

  • I love this piece. This was the first song by Zoe Keating I heard, and it's still my favorite.

  • phenomenal musician.

    this piece is brilliant :]

i'm doing a solo dance to this competitively.

  • reminds me of apocalyptica, she's great =)

  • VERY VERY GOOD

  • Hey Zoe,

it's been a long time since our last communique.

    This video/song is brutally haunting.

    So gorgeous.

When you coming back to NYC?

  • THEY ARE AMAZING!!! :o

haha yea sorry. Zoe and them are my cellist idols.

  • good ^^

  • Stupendaaaa!
