Great cellist! Too bad she relies upon loop machines to get her sound--I'd rather hear the cello played straight without the added loop effects--that stuff will sound hopelessly dated in a few years.

ive known lots of acts and bands in my day to use loop stations to make the music what it is live. and i gotta say, its something easier said then done. i hate it when people feel the need to put down the use of loop stations. its definatly hard to perfect it.
anyways, zoe, youre basically my new inspiration for everything, haha. im rarly impressed with music these days, and finding this by accident was the biggest blessing ive recieved in the past month. so thanks for doing this.

I'm attracted to the intricacies found therein - incredible sweeps, brutal yet beautiful riffs, and incredibly complicated drumming techniques using double bass and hand work. A background as a musician has led me to enjoy hearing the musicianship behind the writing. I don't consider myself closed-minded, but it's not often my head is turned by a musician outside this genre.
The musicianship here is incredible - I have nothing but respect. Amazing work.

You really should do your self a favour and check this band out;
"PsyOpus" . If you like mind melting technicality, you'll adore these guys.
it might take a few listens to get them, and to actually hone in on the patterns, but I assure you, these guys have all spent years in university learning how to play better.
I can honestly say that as a musician myself and someone who has studied a lot of music theory, I tend to go through a lot of music that I find rather shallow or lacking depth.
But now and then I find rare gems. I honestly could not bring myself to part the computer during the performance, it had me immediately. Very moving and your use of technology in the song is wonderful.
I'm also here from Wil's site. If you don't mind my saying, you remind me of Laurie Anderson; both innovate, both playing stringed instruments. I'm off to iTunes to buy an album or two!

Zoe Keating has made me go from wanting to play the violin (which i always kinda wanted to learn to play, until i discovered emilie autumn, who inspired me to take orchestra next year) to play cello. and that was after only seeing her play once.
Zoe, you are amazing. Flat out amazing. You and Melora Creager have made me fall desperately in love with the cello and all of the sounds a skilled artist can make it project.
I just arrived home from OpenWorld. Your performance was fantastic. The whole stage ambiance was out of this world. I really thought I was dreaming when I entered Hall D!
I heard your performance and interview on Radio Lab, very exciting stuff! I also saw you play when Rasputina and the Legendary Pink Dots toured together. Any chance you'll be coming around to the St. Petersburg/Tampa area again?
This sound is new to me. Reminds me alot of the melodies of Tan Dun's compositions with the layers and atmospherics of Philip Glass. All around it's a very creative execution. I wish I could do this with my guitar lol. Either way, this is a great sound.
Zoe Keating's music is new to me -- as of about half an hour ago. I particularly like the newer material. Minimalist? Not to me. This is a pure and rich sound. I have another hundred or so adjectives. Fantastic stuff.
If you're interested, my focus is how all the parts interact together other as a whole, over time. I don't want there to be just one melody, or sometimes even a melody at all, every part gets equal billing. Repetition is an important part of it, both aesthetically and philosophically. Its a form of minimalism and I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. But luckily for everyone, there are a bizillion artists who are already NOT doing what I'm doing. I appreciate your bothering to comment though.

Although I agree with a good 95 percent of what you've stated;
I find nothing brutal about dear Zoe's riffs.
Being a metal head myself, I consider brutal to be break neck pace, or stupidly low tuned breakdowns ( I fucking hate break downs, lol )
But good for you for being so open to this.
Zoe is certainly an inspiration.

I heard your performance and interview on Radio Lab, very exciting stuff! I also saw you play when Rasputina and the Legendary Pink Dots toured together. Any chance you'll be coming around to the St. Petersburg/Tampa area again?

This sound is new to me. Reminds me alot of the melodies of Tan Dun's compositions with the layers and atmospherics of Philip Glass. All around it's a very creative execution. I wish I could do this with my guitar lol. Either way, this is a great sound.

Zoe Keating's music is new to me -- as of about half an hour ago. I particularly like the newer material. Minimalist? Not to me. This is a pure and rich sound. I have another hundred or so adjectives. Fantastic stuff.

If you're interested, my focus is how all the parts interact together other as a whole, over time. I don't want there to be just one melody, or sometimes even a melody at all, every part gets equal billing. Repetition is an important part of it, both aesthetically and philosophically. Its a form of minimalism and I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. But luckily for everyone, there are a bizillion artists who are already NOT doing what I'm doing. I appreciate your bothering to comment though.
