I like "Hello, Mary Lou," "Believe What You Say," "Shirley Lee," and "Lonesome Town" a whole lot too. It's hard for me to limit to just one or two favorite Ricky Nelson songs. And, of course, "Garden Party" is also a classic.
@overbrookXXX What's a shame is Rick died way too young, just as it seemed he was more comfortable in his own skin, had reconciled his past and present, was happy to mix the old material with the newer.
And who knows what other good songs were yet to be written and recorded?
A fine rockin' performer, one of my top ten greats! I remember listening to my older sister Betty's vinyl records, and she had this one Stood Up b/w Waitin' n School, I just loved singing to these and dancing to 'em, all the time.
Also: Pat Woodward (bass) (my old mentor), Ricky Intveld (drums) (James' brother, my friend), Andy Chapin (piano) Bobby Neil (guitar) - they had decades of rockin' to do... taken too soon. Listen to all these performances- remember this band.
I think I was at this concert. Fats Domino was on the bill too. Might've been at Universal Ampitheater. Ricky passed away a a few months later. Great concert.
YEAH passed away...jeesh some people!, as you know and said he was killed , and in Jerry Lee Lewis's crap plane he loan them that tragic New Years Eve.
What a loss to my generation and all the rest, sadly for me I wasn't even born yet when he had already been killed in that accident!!!
good pianist

Ah yes! Rick's performances of two of my favourite songs by him have far more balls than the original recordings.

I love the way he sings in a slightly ballad kind of way even with up-tempo songs...

Yes he sadly passed away in a plane-crash on Dec. 31st 1985. What a great loss. He was one of the genuine originators of Rock & Roll in the 50's
