It's self inflicted to some degree. Nevertheless, this is a cool rendition and he sounds better than he probably should after the abuse his pipes had. Definitely the quintessential metal power ballad.

George is no longer in the band of course and I like him way better on his own, I listen to very little Dokken these days although I've always liked them. As far as looks go it's that George has been a bodybuilder for quite a few years, that's why he looks like that while Don is a type of laid back guy. As far as the hair goes...oh well I don't know. I had a drink with them back in 97 and trust me they blew the roof off the club.

IMO Don has still untapped talent. Something is wrong these days with people. I think its the whole "hairband" genre and expectations of the fans that hold many musicians back. I understand that people like a certain type of sound as if it returns them to their youth but I've gotta say sometimes it just comes off as an unwillingness to mature. Why is it that Paul McCartney isn't so trapped? Old Paul does what he wants, sings from the heart, and it sounds completely natural and believable.
