If anyone is still looking for a copy of this film, you might like to know that (certainly very recently) HMV were knocking it out on DVD for a mere £3.00; even Alan Rickman's less than finest hour (to be fair the guy put a LOT of effort into it & it should have been great) has to be worth that for a quick look!!

BTW: The film is SO not good, though AR looks fabulous! It suffered from many problems before it finally got made & it shows! The sound quality on the DVD is also bad - you really have to switch it up high if you want to hear AR at times, & it seems to be constantly 'obscured' by over-powering music, plus the plot is hard to follow!! It's also full of editing mistakes & a real mix of acting styles, making it unintentionally comical at times! However, 'porn' (as some have suggested) it ain't!!

If anyone knows where I can get hold of a good quality copy of the documentary that was shown on TV sometime in the early 90's of the making of this, please let me know. The Alan Rickman Download Haven (brits&clips) have it in full (& I now see that someone has uploaded it on youtube too - from the same source) but it is almost unwatchable due to it's bad quality. It may or may not be called 'Madly, Truly ... Alan Rickman The Making of Mesmer' but it is a behind-the-sceens look at the film.

why not try and make an unbiased movie or documentary of mesmer without much of the elements "affairs" and "drama". sure, mesmers life was a series of dramas, but this is an insult to this great personality.

I so want to watch this movie. I love Alan and his voice is just so WOW. There is a video on here and he's reading a poem and I thought for a moment I was going to faint. His voice is so amazing and he is just so sexy. All my friends think me mad but if I am then I don't ever want to be sane again. He is just to damn sexy.

For a Rickman fan (as every woman should be lol) it is a good watch. The film itself can be a little meh at times, but his performance is brilliant. It's not very "pornographic" but it is sensual ;)

Was it just me, or was the ending a bit comical with Alan peering into the camera? The movie sounds excellent- a bit overwhelming, but excellent all the same. Alan Rickman is a brilliant actor and he evokes a lot of feeling from the audience. A very powerful film I'd love to see fully.

It's not rated, but there is a very strong parent advisory warning. I'm not aware of any sex in it, but some possibly disturbing scenes. I'm not sure, but I think I heard that the girl was raped? So possibly rated highly for the concepts.

There is no sex in the movie. There's some scenes that could be suggestive but the trailer makes the film seem more pornographic than it is. It's actually an excellent movie all around. I enjoyed it very much.

@RavynneRune I saw in an alan rickman fanvideo that had a clip from this moviein it that it looked like he felt the woman up inthe movie. she was sitting down and he runs his hand over her lacey dress. seemed more sensual than anything else. from what I couldtell that looked nice.

LOL. This film was made when? 1994? That was when I was born too. :) I really do want to watch this movie. Scratch ratings, who cares? I probably watched almost all of Alan's films. Just not Closet Land. I heard it was a bit too disturbing so I didn't watch it. Did you? Any thoughts on it?

I saw it and its not that bad. (I was thinking of him the whole time, maybe that's why) Implied torture and only a smidgen of blood. I like how they imply it and not show directly..its a very artistic effect. The last scene of closet land on this site, the 9 of 9 one: boy, is that steamy! I want him to hold me like that!!

I would highly recomend it to a Rickman fan.

Only toenail pulling, and they don't show it, but he only says it, and she screams, and they shoot a picture of his hands with a tiny bit of blood. That's the worst of it. Didn't want to ruin it for you, but you seemed scared about it.

There's this one scene where Rickman has great acting...once you watch it I'm sure you'll know what I mean.
