i really want this live mix where he mixed a different beat in the beginning with "building steam with a grain of salt". i doubt shadow recorded this set but if anyone know where this could be bought or downloaded, let me know!!!
Hey if you like DJ Shadow be sure to check out the relaunch of his website on August 3rd. The launch is bringing tons of new products(including digital downloads) as well as a new look and feel. Check it out on Monday.
Be sure to check out the new Shop on the official DJ Shadow site. They updated it with a ton of new products including DJ Shadow Handmade. DJ Shadow Handmade brings you tons of new material that you can get inscribed with your name on the vinyl or cd. These products make great gifts or collectors items.
Luv you DJ SHADOW. had your album back in 2004-5. Listened to it daily. Any time I hear these tracks i think about those days....me and my boy Adrian...anyways always going to luv your music, thank you. Thanks for the memories. Wish I could meet you some day to say thankyou. Peace, m.b.
thanks i feel really dumb @-@ , i live there its just that i didn't know he perform at the music festival, awesome vid by the way i can't believe i miss this, can you give me a heads up if he is going 2 be there next year.
You and me both. I was an idiot and used the lower video quality setting on my digital camera because I was worried about memory card space. I'll never make that mistake again.
For this DJ shadow video I used a Canon SD500. I unfortunately was a complete idiot and used a lower video quality setting. I think I was centered and close enough to avoid getting much distortion. For most of the other videos on my channel, I use a camcorder with a pro-sumer shotgun mic.
I would really like to know who the guy is talking in building steam with a grain of salt...such eerie sincerity...anyway? the interview with the drummer...?
too bad his time was cut short that night. i remember the outdoor stage having problems all day. i just watched gogol bordello (best set of the weekend!) and then came over to watch the end of dj shadow, but it was just over when i got there...
I remember when Shadow came to Toronto last year and he played a very similar mix of Building Steam fairly early on in his set. Before that show, I had never knowingly heard a Shadow track and was basically virgin to turntablism, trip hop and most other electronica. Now it's the majority of what I listen to, I've discovered so much other amazing music as a result and have made the decision to start making my own and I owe it all to this one man.
I know the first one was called "Building Steam With a Grain of Salt" My favorite Shadow song. Don't know about the rest though. I think one is the intro to his debut album "endtroducing" Hope that helps.
Endtroducing is definitely my fave when it comes to Shadow, but any of his albums have their qualities. His set @ Coachella was definitely worth the suffering throughout the day! The first day was definitely the hottest in my opinion!
I thought the mix/transition into the next song/track was a little off. The opening song off of "entroducing" was great, and was building steam, "chug", "chug", chugging along, then boom he goes into this acid jazz bass frill which killed it. BUT I'm a fan, and both songs are DOPE, period.
heh, i was way at da front at a erfect position. i had plenty of oxygen, i didnt sufficate, i had a lot of room (cause da tens weree high and forced everyone to 'let the little dude go up front'), and heck im twelve. sadly he didnt play his whole performance. he cut it about 2 hours shorter.
I was there, front row, and I definitely dug his set. The sound was a bit shit, and playing Seeing Thangs (his best hip hop track), without David Banner being there kind of took away from how dope that tune is.
Shadow's set blew big time. Especially when he started off with his gangsta crap. This song and the next one, (think it was 6 days) were the only ones worth watching him.
Fine I can understand if you don't like all the Hyphy on it but I don't understand how you can't appreciate the tracks with Kasabian and Q-tip. And This Time is unbelievable!
Yeah but that's the point you're comparing it to his other albums when it's not supposed to be anything like those. He specifically worked with vocalists so it was always going to be a completely different sound. Of course it's not going to stand along side the others because it's not meant. I still say This Time is a classic piece of soul and one of his best releases to date.
i was there just yesterday and the day before and saw tiesto, red hot chilly peppers, dj shadow, bjork, and a lot more people. i wass way at the front. I have sumtin to brag about now tho im 12!!!
1 that the jabbawockeez have used in thier performances great music great dance group. perfect.

It's George Marsh. He's some jazz drummer and percussionist.
joncy75 3 years ago
Damn. tell me how you know that.
AKCrowley 3 years ago
I Wiki'd it. There's an explanation there of what samples he used to all the songs in Endtroducing.

I Wiki'd it. It's not really a reliable source, but there's a link there explaining all the samples he used in each song in Endtroducing.
