  • Dj Shadow- Building Steam With A Grain Of Salt

  • Double post. LOL my bad. My laptop froze.

  • wats the name of this song?

  • una mierda!!!!!

  • damn i wish that this video was in better quality cause is a sick video!! haha

  • You and me both. I was an idiot and used the lower video quality setting on my digital camera because I was worried about memory card space. I'll never make that mistake again.

  • What type of camera you used. For a camera it sounds good.

  • For this DJ shadow video I used a Canon SD500. I unfortunately was a complete idiot and used a lower video quality setting. I think I was centered and close enough to avoid getting much distortion. For most of the other videos on my channel, I use a camcorder with a pro-sumer shotgun mic.

  • I would really like to know who the guy is talking in building steam with a grain of salt...such eerie sincerity...anyway? the interview with the drummer...?

  • It's George Marsh. He's some jazz drummer and percussionist.

  • Damn. tell me how you know that.

  • I Wiki'd it. There's an explanation there of what samples he used to all the songs in Endtroducing.

  • I Wiki'd it. It's not really a reliable source, but there's a link there explaining all the samples he used in each song in Endtroducing.

  • To think I thought this guy was just another chump DJ for the longest time and I didn't bother checking him out. By god.

  • monosylabik is what it goes into

  • building steam with a grain of salt is the first part then it goes into well.. im not quite sure.

  • it goes to six days!

  • some of the scratching rightbeofre min 3 is the intro track from 1998 UNKLE P.F.

  • PHAT

  • what is the name of this track?

  • The main part of the song is "Building steam with a grain of salt" off of endtroducing... but it's remixed with some samples off of the private press

  • too bad his time was cut short that night. i remember the outdoor stage having problems all day. i just watched gogol bordello (best set of the weekend!) and then came over to watch the end of dj shadow, but it was just over when i got there...

  • First song is Building Steam with a Grain of Salt from "Endtroduing..." Album

Second song is Walkie Talkie from "The Private Press" album

The last song is Six Days from "Six Days" album

  • the song before six days is the instrumental for cage-gtand ol' party crash

  • two words: fucking awesome

love the way he's mixed up 'building steam...'

  • If anyone of you knows the name of the song of dj shadow that has a baby voice on it please tell me is a great song biut i don't know the name

  • The baby voice song is his song called walkie talkie

  • thaks man

  • I remember when Shadow came to Toronto last year and he played a very similar mix of Building Steam fairly early on in his set. Before that show, I had never knowingly heard a Shadow track and was basically virgin to turntablism, trip hop and most other electronica. Now it's the majority of what I listen to, I've discovered so much other amazing music as a result and have made the decision to start making my own and I owe it all to this one man.

  • it goes from building steam with a grain of salt to something mixed with walkie talkie, then goes to six days. wait no its the six days remix!

  • Does anyone know what the second song on was? and where the 'What you gon do now?' came from?

  • The 'What you gone do now?' sample comes from the track Monosylabik, from the Private Press album, which was released in 2002.

  • man...Josh Davis is from DAVIS, CA...

  • DJ Shawdow shined, i loved the show

  • I can't believe all these amazing bands were at the same Festival...Lucky bastards!!and btw, DJ Shadow is FRENCH!!!!

  • DJ Shadow was born and raised in California. If they moved Cali to France recently, I must have missed it.

  • what the hell.. how dare you to claim that god is french :]

  • What are the names of all the songs he played in dis vid???

  • I know the first one was called "Building Steam With a Grain of Salt" My favorite Shadow song. Don't know about the rest though. I think one is the intro to his debut album "endtroducing" Hope that helps.

  • Endtroducing is definitely my fave when it comes to Shadow, but any of his albums have their qualities. His set @ Coachella was definitely worth the suffering throughout the day! The first day was definitely the hottest in my opinion!

  • That show was AWESOME!!! I was over in there somewhere...hehe

  • he must have done an identical set at bonnaroo.. :/ this sounds the same.

  • I thought the mix/transition into the next song/track was a little off. The opening song off of "entroducing" was great, and was building steam, "chug", "chug", chugging along, then boom he goes into this acid jazz bass frill which killed it. BUT I'm a fan, and both songs are DOPE, period.

  • it wasnt off at all, it seems like it because of the quality.

  • none of those songs are from any of his cd's they're all remixed., don't be dumb. k thanks.

  • all the songs are from his cd's there just remixed together. don't be a dick. k thanks

  • actually theres one of his beats he made for cage's album... If y'all heard of him.. check it out

  • glad to see shadows still doing his older tracks...

  • the first song is from the Album "Endtroducing" and the song is "Building Steam with a Grain of Salt"

    Dj Shadow is awesome!

  • Hey, What song is it that he opens w/

    Thanks.

  • Fuck why in the world did I not go see him at electric picnic last year. The outsiders is weak!! Entroducing probably my favourite

  • DUDE AWESOME THANKS FOR POSTING AHHHH!!!!!@ holy shit awesome remixes !IUG!(&*^!*(&T!

  • i was front row. defanatly left bjork

  • YES AWESOME!. I left Bjork to see shadow and he did not disappoint.

  • THe song is called "Building Steam with a Grain of Salt"

  • heh, i was way at da front at a erfect position. i had plenty of oxygen, i didnt sufficate, i had a lot of room (cause da tens weree high and forced everyone to 'let the little dude go up front'), and heck im twelve. sadly he didnt play his whole performance. he cut it about 2 hours shorter.

  • srry, i couldnt type last night. corrections:

    erfect = perfect

    tens = teens

  • he was not in a tent. and he played awhile after they wanted to kick him off cuz he started late

  • i never said he played in a tent. but i also realized that it was a festival and no artist could playmore than an hour, sooo....

  • what's the name of this song?

  • I was at the barricade for Sonic Youth but left before Shadow to see Bjork. she was amazing...im sure ill see Shadow one day...no biggie.

  • I wish i was there but i saw Bjork instead. She was amazing and Coachella was the best thing ever

  • I was there, front row, and I definitely dug his set. The sound was a bit shit, and playing Seeing Thangs (his best hip hop track), without David Banner being there kind of took away from how dope that tune is.

  • Shadow's set blew big time. Especially when he started off with his gangsta crap. This song and the next one, (think it was 6 days) were the only ones worth watching him.

hey Shad! Come back to the basics!

  • gangsta meaning what exactly

  • Was an awesome set. Was there in the flesh :)

  • Yeah!

  • Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice

  • Shadow was fucking cool, coachella all around was the greatest

  • whats this song called?

  • this song is a remix of 'building steam with a grain of salt' by dj shadow.

  • i was thereeeee it was great

  • Saw him in Leeds at the start of his tour last year. Life-affirming

  • i wish i could've gone to coachella

  • no need to worry if tickets sell out, just drive there and there are millions of scalpers. thats how i got mine. they cost about 90 bucks.

  • dj shadow's Outsider album sucks

  • yeah!

  • Yeah only to people with closed minds

  • nope...what if you actually just don't like it?

  • Fine I can understand if you don't like all the Hyphy on it but I don't understand how you can't appreciate the tracks with Kasabian and Q-tip. And This Time is unbelievable!

  • no he's right that album sucks so much compared to shadow's other work which is beyond genius

  • Yeah but that's the point you're comparing it to his other albums when it's not supposed to be anything like those. He specifically worked with vocalists so it was always going to be a completely different sound. Of course it's not going to stand along side the others because it's not meant. I still say This Time is a classic piece of soul and one of his best releases to date.

  • i was there just yesterday and the day before and saw tiesto, red hot chilly peppers, dj shadow, bjork, and a lot more people. i wass way at the front. I have sumtin to brag about now tho im 12!!!

  • 12 years old..? did you roll?

  • lol

  • wut u mean?

  • lol i take that as a no then, when u say what do i mean, ur still a youngsta, dont get into the drugs kid

  • im scared of my own shadow

  • shadow is prime

  • shadow is the bomb on record and live
