  • at least is the only castlevania game after symphony of the night where you can attack at all directions!!!

  • I just bought this game on PS3. Only $6.

  • Simon is prolly like "Man I am getting of tired of coming back to this castle to kick your ass all the time Dracula. How bout coming to see me sometime?"

  • DAMN awesome graphics!! Even the original mode has awesome graphics for its time! The music is the best of any castlevania IMO

  • he looks so retarded while walking :(

  • the music is gay. ninja gaiden is better

  • @ledsilver music is gay thats why i play the original mode and ninja gaiden is not better IMO

  • apparently this counts as the original in the timeline

  • Glad & very damn well happy i got this recently & i still have my PS1 & play it along wit my favourite PS1 games

  • this game looks fun to play, if I don't find the PS1 disc for this game, then I will jus downloud it on my PS3.

  • wow im so gonna buy this from my friend

    :3

  • @xtlhogciao you have to get a game over, then it gives you the option to save. weird, I know.

  • The first level was easy. I figured that out midway through the second though.

Thanks for taking the time to respond though.

I don't think it's really going to make a difference anyway. I can't get past stage 10 to save my life.

The only other decent PSN sidescroller I could find was Megaman 9 and I've only been able to beat one stage. God, these are hard. Now there are 3 oldschool sidescrollers I own that I have never beat. The third being battletoads. Gear level.

  • Hey man, Mega Man 10 comes out tomorrow...tonight at 12:00 a.m. if you're a nightowl. As for me I bought the PS1 version of this game yesterday just because the Vampire Killer song is just kick ass.

  • I'm confused. What's the Diffirence between Arranged and Original Mode? It was also on Resident Evil 2 and I didn't know what it did.

  • @UltimateAnimeGamer

In this game it's a revamp of the original game which was on an awesome Japanese computer

  • @michiyoyoshiku I get what it is, I just don't know WHAT it does to the game itself.

  • Graphical and musical changes. Arrange is the same game only prettier with remixed music original is the game as it was in it's original form.

  • @michiyoyoshiku Doesn't it also alternate item locations or is that only in RE Games?

  • Original Mode runs a bit slower, is a LOT harder, and has 16-but music.

Arrange Mode is a remake of that mode, with altered sprites and animations, it moves a little faster, the game is a lot easier, and has new music.

  • @WolftheKnight Oh yeah, this game does have a story. My bad. Still, SOTN has a lot of secrets that will keep you playing longer. Wish they remake SOTN though with new graphics or something.....

  • I love this game, I picked it up for the PSX in Colorado. Though I must say Wolfman is giving me a tough time. Advice?

  • So both this and Castlevania: SoTN are on the ps3 store.. I've never had the chance to play a castlevania game... which one should I buy first as an introduction to the series? I do plan on going through all of them at some point.. just wanna know where I should start.

  • Well, if you want a good game, than Castlevania: SoTH is the game for you, but if you just want to run around and fight enemies that doesn't have a story, than this is for you. I recommend SoTH, but their both hard a little.

  • In terms of game quality I would highly advise SoTN, it was the first of the "metroidvania" style you see in use today.

I can be easy, but usually only once you've played through it before, otherwise you tend to get your ass kicked a few times.

Besides, other than the music Super Castlevania 4 is a far better remake of Castlevania 1 imo.

  • rare why

  • dance with the vampire killa babby!

  • Bloody bat! Die bloody (f/s)ucker!

  • wait... is this a remake of castlevania NES? or castlevania IV on SNES?

  • NES

  • SNES is better but this one is ok

  • Chronicles >>>>> CV4

  • You mean it was later ported to the PSP, right?

  • For some reason, i don't know why, this game reminds me a lot of castlevania IV on the super nintendo. Maybe its because the first screen looks almost identical to the first screen in castlevania IV

  • they are remakes of the same game.

  • Simon walks like an idiot... but the game's cool anyway

  • it's the classic walking style of trevor belmont

    and richter belmot. XD

  • *watches video* Hmm... think I'll get Silent Hill off the PS Store instead...

  • The music is so good in this game...

  • whats it remake of

  • this is a remake of a japan only akumajou dracula

    (akumajou dracula x68000)

  • Comment removed

  • Not only. Akumajou Dracula itself is remake of the original NES Castlevania

  • i have castlevania in my cell phone and its very hard to play

  • Pink! His hair are pink!WTF!

  • its not pink its a redish violet.

  • O.O wth happened at 2:33 anywho i have the ps1 disc never removed from box looks fun time to rip it open ^_^

  • is it just a another remake? anything extra 2 it?

  • Well, it is considered to be the actual Canon to date of the first Castlevania.

  • that was changed many times

  • this game came out years ago on ps1, I would hope to God they didn't remake it lol

  • i love the castlevania games but have never heard of this one.. looks like the original on nes. is this worth picking up in the playstation store?

  • Yes, it's probably in my top 3 Castlevania games. It's a remake of the original. Be ready for a challenge though, but the Arrange mode isn't so tough.

  • thx i love this series i have played and beaten all of them super castlevania 4 is my favorite followed by symphony

  • Probably not to play on your PS3, but on a PSP it could be good :)

  • I'm finally able to own this thanks to the Playstation Network

  • looks like the snes remake to me

  • more like the nes remake

  • "Ah ah ah ah, stayin' alive, stayin' alive (couldn't agreee more with shannonstamey).

  • If they cast Barry Gibb as Simon Belmont in the movie, I'll be a little more than pissed.

  • It is going to be a CGI movie. This is conformed.

  • Boo CGI.

  • And when are we going to get a "Simon" character that doesn't look so feminine? Magenta hair, showin' all that thigh, that strut... Come on, give us a guy that actually looks like he could make Dracula piss himself.. Anybody agree?

  • ..i agree 100%...

  • Why thank you, reba... I'm glad somebody does.

  • the sad thing is that he is the closest we could get, the other characters are even worse.

  • It's about culture. In America, we consider "men" to be buff, gruff, shirtless, etc. but Japan actually considers "men" to be effeminate. So whereas you think Simon is a pussy here, Japan thinks he's as manly as Arnold Schwarzenegger. I don't mind the appearance anyway, it proves that guys who aren't granted with over-masculine features can kick ass too. Besides, I think we can all agree that this Simon is a million times as manly as the new Judgement artwork.

  • Bruce Lee kicked Chuck Norris' ass.

  • true, yet no one has any corny jokes about him lol

  • I'm a huge Castlevania fan. The game looks good, but the disco-tech version of the original music takes a lot away from it. It's a fuckin' scary, vampire game for god's sake. If it were a 'kill the scariest drag-queen game', the music would be fine...

  • looks like a casltevania 1 remake to me

  • I actually had this game but sold it like a dumbass

  • just got this game out of the PSN, i was gonna buy this game originally on ebay for god knows how much, but when i saw this baby pop out in the PSN store i had to buy it and for 5 bux too. and i also get to play this on my psp when i go out.

  • Does this game have extra levels or is it exactly like the nes one.

  • It has a number of added levels and bosses, and is like a sort of directors cut of the first game in a way.

  • you can buy this game from PlayStation Online for PS3/PSP....I liked SOTN but I still dunno about this

    I should try it myself:P

  • they're very different packages I prefer the old castlevania games where exploration was sacrificed for a more linear progression but it all depends on what you prefer in a castlevania game

  • i prefer action as well, there hasn't been a new, from scratch( i say this because all we have got are copy+paste copies of SoTN and RoB) castlevania that balances things out.

  • so Order of Ecclesia is for you

imo that game combine the best aspects of castlevanias (classic and metroidvania)

  • I like this version better.

Especially how Simon looks. The artist who did the SotN stuff (who also did this game) was amazing!

  • this is one of the best games i played on the ps1 im glad i bought it when i came across it. as far as music goes im glad i can hear so many remixes of these tunes so much to offer!

When choosing "Original Mode" you are presented with 3 different modes for the background music. the choices are, i think, Fm synthesis, GM, MT-32. although i could be completely wrong!

  • lol i have that game but in the japonense language

jaja yo tengo ese juego pero en japones

jaja eu tengo ese jogo pero no japones

  • It's not bad at all. It's quite enjoyable, especially if you're a fan of the early Castlevanias.

IIRC, there's a cheat code that allows you to choose the version of the soundtrack you hear. L1 and R1 when selecting original mode, I think.

  • I had this game, n I sold last year.... I must've been on crack when I sold this game

  • you should have kept it man, it would have been worth something, plus it looks like a fun game to play.

  • this game is so expensive, i wonder why? whats the main purpose of Castlevania Chronicles compared to others?

  • This is a remake of the first, obviously. It was originally released on a Sharp X68000 in Japan (a personal computer). The goal with this game was to present a Castlevania game that was virtually unknown outside of Japan. It was a budget release when Konami first released it. I purchased it for $19.99.

  • @zhang2003 Five bucks on PSN now.

  • Lo único que no me gusta es el arreglo musical, es un destrozo de remix.

  • Igy was trying to bring the original back to the suface with this game but I don't think it worked out quite right I not against them trying again maybe do a split liner nonliner where you play one version to unlock things in the other like enemies, bosses, weapons, secret pathways. find a swich to open a new level, a relic to do item crashs, beat dracula in the liner original unlocks a new one in the nonliner adventure ,making to 2 versions grow off each other while revisiting the old one

  • I have to agree that the remix version isnt as good as the original, i dont know why you think its techno though XD

  • Is it possible to save in this game?

  • You have to die over and over until you get the Game Over screen. Pretty retarded, but its easy to die in this game, so it shouldn't be a problem.

  • I LOVE the music that plays when you beat the level starting at 4:18 to 4:25. It is so beautiful!

  • wow SOTN kicked way more ass

  • Difficult to say for sure, actually. SotN is an interesting game, but there's something to be said for the classic linear Castlevania too.

  • my uncle got this game but he never got sotn

  • too bad for me sotn is the best castlevania

    its really fun :D

  • this music pwns sisters

    simon ftw

  • why is the frame rate so shitty

  • Continuing...

Let's pick Symphony of the Night as an example: While the Belmont characters have only Vampire Killer and the secondary weapons, with Alucard you gain access to a huge arsenal, spells, and familiars! And you have a massive castle to complete!

  • Concluding:

What is the reason for Simon Belmont to fight? I mean, was it only because he was a Belmont?

  • You're over-thinking the whole thing. This is one of a few remixes available of the original game. The original was released in 1986 I believe. The only story available was printed in the instructions. In my opinion, the series really started to falter with the release of Symphony of the night.

  • Konami handed over the series to IGA in the late 90s and he started to mess with things by creating a "timeline" and rehashing the same game over and over on the GBA and DS. He's not responsible for ANY of these older games. To sum it up, the reason Simon fights is because the player hits the start button. IMO, that's the best reason!

  • While I agree that Catlevania's story offers little (if any) motivation for the player to progress through the game, suggesting Symphony of the Night is anything but a classic just doesn't ring true with me. I'm probably just as disappointed with the way it's served as the template for almost every game that came after it as you are, but it can't be blamed for that - only IGA can. Anyway, Castlevania Chronicles is vastly underrated, and has the best version of "Vampire Killer" ever. FACT.

  • I have Symphony of the Night for PSX, and I dib't really think this is a mess. I realy think IGA turned some things worse (as for the maze in the timeline), but I think that, after Konami encharged him to make the games, the series reached a higher level of fun.

  • that put a tear in my eye,

    well put sir

  • Part 3:

Juste Belmont fought Dracula to save Liddy, Richter fought Dracula to save his girlfriend Annette, Alucard fought his father because it was his duty, John Morris fought Dracula to avenge his father's death, and so did his son.

  • Continuing...

Leon Belmont fought Walter because he abducted his betrothed. Sonia Belmont fought Dracula as requested by Alucard. Trevor Belmont fought Dracula because of his mother. Hector fought Dracula because his wife was executed.

  • Spar you sure as hell know your CASTLEVANIA HISTORY!! WELL DONE

  • Thanks.

  • It's a pitty that, different from Symphony of the Night (the other game for PSX) Castlevania Chronicles doesn1t have a really good backstory.

You see: What is the reason for Simon Belmont to fight Dracula?

  • Damnit! I used to have this game. I think the CD cracked though. *sigh*. I didn't know it was rare.

  • umm you can still download it. its eay to find

  • i just don't understand why SoTN was so amazing and then you get to this game(which is awesome)

but everything could have been better.

  • I don't know. When Castlevania changed, it lost a lot of its challenge and, to me, appeal.

  • Because, this is a port/remake of an older japanese only Castlevania game that came out waaaay before SotN. They shouldn't be compared really.

  • Because SoTN was amazing? the characters Alucard period was amazing. The fact you dont only use a whip.

  • Oh sorry for the second post, there is a way to change the music if you don't like it. Just enter the old Konami code at the main screen and you'll access a menu that lets you choose between three music types.

  • I got this game when it first came out and I still have it, I should play it again, another game I want to play is Rondo of Blood

  • This game is totally badass. Cost me $180 for it.

  • I saw this game for $123 on Amazon. Despite being a masterpiece, I don't know why older games like this are so expensive.

  • A lot of those games, this one included, had a very low print run when originally released and are now in high demand. That tends to drive up value.

  • I'm sorry but I can't get over that horrible music. Looks good though.

  • nothing against techno , but Vampire Killer is a song/theme/tune no one should mess with.

  • Quiet Ronin!

  • Looks moderately better than Super Castlevania IV, (the only one I've played which I found good but quite slow and sluggish gameplay-wise). I may check this out along with Symphony of the Night.

  • The rarest are

    Castlevania Rondo of blood

    Castlevania Dracula X

    Castlevania legends

    Castlevania (Disk system)

    Castlevania 2 (disk system)

    Castlevania 3 (famicom)

  • nce to see the contrasts of this one and the original, which i just uploaded.

  • well actully your are correct yazarc this is probably the MOST RAREST castlevania games ever.

  • "well actully your are correct yazarc this is probably the MOST RAREST castlevania games ever." - vampirekiller777000

No it isn't. Not the rarest....

  • What the fuck is wrong with Castlevania having techno!? I can go clubbing to this music! It's fucking awesome!

  • Excatly, why do we need "NES" music, play something different. It sounds great with techno!

  • Yep totally...

  • I kind of agree. Vampire Killer has always sounded better as an upbeat rockin' tune to me, but a techno version is fine too.

  • What the fuck's wrong with Castlevania playing techno? I don't get what the fuck is wrong with Castlevania having techno?....

The techno remixes are totally ass kicking.

  • So does your mother

  • Clever.

  • For a castlevania game, i have to agree. Techno really dosen't fit this game at all.

  • Crappy music!? What!?

  • Hah hah angry fan boy on the lose.

  • Are you kidding me? What's the problem with having techno for Castlevania music? It's stylish....

Not everything has to be classical or hard rock for monster slaying platformers....

  • music is awesome, gameplay is excellent, this game is awesome. CASTLEVANIA RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This in my JAMMM! Thats what makes this game soo cool, the soundtrack.

  • Whoa, Cv3 map, bat dispersal animations, and ABILITY TO REVERSE JUMP IN MID-AIR??? That's...unheard of!

Also, you (or whoever played this) didn't whip the wall in the second room.

  • It's a flea man trap in this game. There's no pork chop hidden there.

  • Actually, go to the OPPOSITE wall. That's where it is. Yeah, the porkchop is under the door.

  • Wow never seen this b4. But damn Simon is walking like he has rickets! The could have atleast put a few more frames in his stride. Thanx for sharing tho

  • Music is cool

  • i think this is just a remake of the first castlevania

  • it's obviously inspired by the original Castlevania. It's not fair to call it a remake though.

  • my bad

  • But it is a remake of the first Castlevania for the NES.... As is Super Castlevania.

  • I have this game and it's a good thing I didn't sell it still play it on my PS 2 system.

  • It was 20 bucks when it first came out brand new. It's funny to watch those ebay prices these days.

  • I have never had the chance to play this game, thanks for the vid!
