I read somewhere (Google: Andy Dubois Plank or Crunches) that planks are bad for you, since it makes your strong muscles stronger, and your weak muscles weaker, in your core. The article says that this will make your core overall very dysfunctional. Is this correct or...?
Hiyaaaa! Have you heard about - fast abs magic (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate got detailed 6 pack abs and lost a truck load of of belly fat with it.
Bending the spine against its natural curvature is dangerous. Exercises done properly do not cause distortion of these curves. The spine is meant to allow for twisting/bending/etc. Do people commonly place unnaturally high amounts of weight on their spine? Yes, they certainly do. Is a sit-up with a 10lb plate reasonable? Sure. Is a sit-up with a 45lb plate normal? Depends on if it's Mike Tyson or a guy built like a stick figure.
I've been a trainer for 4+ years and have been trained by record breaking powerlifters, world champion wrestlers and have been studying physiology for 3+ years on my own. Regardless, I'm not an M.D., neither are you. You sure aren't a trainer. Stop acting like you are. Thank you.
@Tra1n3rfromH3ll I wasn't asking for credentials, and i wasn't stating mine. I was simply sharing my experience, and in my experience, crunches, sit-ups and similar 'spine flexing' exercises really hurt and can lead to screwed up backs. I'm just trying to help, not make myself appear as an expert on the topic. But if you would, PLEASE do google the issue. You can judge for yourself, no-one is forcing you to believe me.
@chasindreams2 overall i agree, but crunches and similar excercises have their place AS LONG as they are balanced by back exercises to compensate and keep your back naturally neutral, but the key to a six pack is nopt ab exercises, everyone has a 6 pack. the key is the correct cardio routine AND nutrition to lose the fat
@TheDrummerboi94 Yeah getting a '6-pack' in the socially accepted stereotype of the word comes down to losing fat so that the abs can be seen, but getting a strong core requires the right exercises e.g. deadlifts, farmer walks, planks etc. I still think crunches and sit-ups etc. are unsafe, and there's a lot of proof. Please check the issue out.
@chasindreams2 i agree so far as there are much better exercises to getting a strong core, and there are plenty of alternatives to crunches and sit ups, and these form a very smalll part of my training, i personally never do a dedicated ab workout with out working out the posterier chain to balance it, i also do a lot of hanging crunches, therefore removing the pressure on the spine, only doing regular sit ups and crunches out of nescesity as i'm joining the military.
@TheDrummerboi94 Oh wow you're joining the military? I respect that, you've definitely seen more in life than me, I'm just a 15 year old boy trying to maintain his strength, do well at school and become a professional basketball player. Are sit ups and crunches staple exercises in the military? If so, I'd love to see that changed, cuz I've experienced first hand the pain in your back when you do them.
@chasindreams2 yeah man, yeah it sit ups are the main test of core strength in most military forces, yet they also know how to balance it out, in some situations you may need the strength to do a sit up motion, such as hand to hand combat, and then there will be a lot more pressure on all of your body, when i was younger, about 13 when i started doing fitness training i felt a lot of pain too, but now my bones have developed i feel a lot less,
@TheDrummerboi94 what i'd suggest is wait until you're 17/18, then start incorporating crunches back into your fitness an see if they hurt then? it may just be your age like it was for me, remember dont sit all the way up to vertical as that mainly works the hip flexors, and running is better for that, but just crunch on a mat, or fitness ball, the ball really isolates the core, from the abs to the inner core and relieves a lot of pressure, good luck with the basketball.
@TheDrummerboi94 Yeah thanks. I think I'll just stay away form crunches altogether, not that I think you're wrong or anything, it's just that there are heaps more exercises that develop the core a lot that I can use (and am using). Anyways, nice talking to you, good luck in the military man.
The ONLY solution to consistently lose your abdominal fat and keep it off for good is to combine a sound nutritious diet full of unprocessed natural foods with a properly designed strategic exercise program that stimulates the necessary hormonal and metabolic response within your body.
hey man I noticed you combine weights with calisthenics, not just in this vid, but your other ones as well. Any advice as far as how often you do each, or in regards to combining them?
@strengthproject I hear that. I've never been quite sure how to though, you know? cause each works two different types of muscle fibers. Then I worry about over training. Right now I'm all about calisthenics, but looking to add weights to get some additional strength. I dunno, I guess I just have to experiment and get creative to see what works?
@gregsimson You're kidding bro. Crunches hurt bad after doing them regularly for about a week at the most. Like I said, google the issue. The potential harm that can be caused from crunches and sit-ups and similar spinal flexion is becoming quite common knowledge in the fitness world. With the leg raises, you have to make sure you're doing them with proper technique to make sure you don't hurt your back. Keep your spine in a neutral position. Same with squats, deadlifts, barbell rows etc.
do you do all of these? like one right after the other? or just like 3 or 4 or something im trying to figure out how to plan my workouts and diets and stuff like that
@MrDonsk1 Diet helps some... but you wont be in shape. Thats why you need to run. Get a jump rope. Everyone can fit a 30 minute run in 3 times a week. Thats a bad excuse.
hey, how long should i rest in between my workouts? i usually dont rest and jump right into another and i heard that is bad for me, but i feel the burn and thats the only way i know im getting a good workout
@bb33nnii For abs and core work i usually rest about 30 to 45 seconds depending on the difficulty of the exercise.
Sometimes i will do an active rest - e.g. crunch for 2minutes - turn over and do back raises for 30 seconds then back to crunches. Its also good to stand up during rest period and get the oxygen flowing. Happy training dude
i'm 16 years old, i have a normal body and i want to get ripped abs fast... doing these exersises every second day in what time am i gonna have results??? please tell me.. thanks
@Brian21crew i have a 8 pack I'm 16 aswell the abs workouts aren't going to get you a six pack completely you have to lose alot of body fat on ur belly the best way for that is to run and eat healthy especially if u have a really bad metabolism it will take time. just don't do anything unhealthy that will make u lose the weight way to fast because you will get really ugly stretch marks and excess skin left over which is very hard to lose and will probably ruin ur chance of getting a six pack
ok mate, now tell us how many weeks a beginner would take to do such moves, for one who's just starting it is simply impossible to barely take his back out of the ground xD
@13andincredublycut It's really easy to get ripped when ur a baby. I bet once you get a job, kids, a house to pay, grass to cut you'll end up having no time to train or eat well and you'll get fat. Funny how kids are dumb these days
@ohhenry92 everyones abs develop differently.. doesnt really matter what workouts you do, its donw to genetics if your abs are straight, or the way this guys is. at the end of the day it dont matter tho
Also, do you do 1 set, do another exercise set, then back onto the first set, or 1 set, rest for a minute, another set , etc, until it's done then do the others? Sorry about all the questions :)
You do all of them in one day, or just say... 4 sets of of "Knee to chest" and that's it for the day? because doing all that must do some damage surely? Thanks in advance :)
@Occultfan all of these exercises with all reps and all sets = the workout.. you do all of this in one workout.. no damage done. your abs may ache a little from muscular fatigue, but if you eat right then it all good. this is good for your body.
yo do one set (rest 1 - 3 minutes) next set (rest) next set (rest) THEN next exercise..
@DdotRedd Find it hard to do these exercises, I do the weight on th estomach, and mostly on benches, + sit ups. these ones, (the V's) I find it very hard to do. So I'm doing different exercises
@Occultfan okay, but make it your aim to be able to do these exercises, then progress on to being able to do the whole workout!! the more you exercise the mroe progress you will see and the easier it becomes! peace
at 0.02 his abs dont match either side mine are like that but am not as ripped ha any1 know what workout will get them more even or is there nothin i can do to sort it
yo great video man! yo i'm curious, i have a decent six pack right now, but i am trying to make my abs buldge out more like yours.... any advice for that?
i know you asked him, but i think i can help you with that, and i think the solution would be to use weight like a medicine ball when doing some of these excercises. since abs are like arms in that they're muscles, arms get bigger with increased weight, and so will abs. im sure there are ways to do get that without weights, but thats the only solution i know :P
The 1' crunches are killers but I love them. I stopped doing the full rise ab workout after a couple of times with friction rash I had in my lower back from the floor (and I use a gym mat).
@dankentheeldergod you stretch because not only does it strengthen the muscle you worked but also prevents injury and reduces soreness. Also great video!
It is good workouts. Who really cares if you work inside or out. You can do what is best for you. Why do we have to live up to others expectations. That is what is wrong in our world. If we went by what others thought we would be doing nothing. People should live their own lives. I say working inside is much nicer with all the equipment and the quietness.
I am grateful to gain new ideas. That is what you tubing is all about, it is learning new things to enhance the common mans life.
@Mercer1628 I feel good with what u said. My husband and I's small business requires us to almost live on the road like truckers and we have to do our workout in rest areas. It embarrassed me sometimes because people might think we're showing off. We choose a spot where we can kinda hide from people. We dont have a choice but to do it there or not workout at all. "If we went by what others thought we would be doing nothing." very well said. Thank u.
hi, just wondering if you can make a strech video, showing what streches to do after excercising each muscle group, and explaining all the diff types of streches.
or if you have one already, any chance you can link me to it? ive looked but cant find any. and general utube just has pilates.
this is really nice im glad i found your video i been working out 4 six moths now and well i been going good so far but i want to change it up i need to work out my abs thanks 4 the video
Your stuff is the bomb, man; very inspirational. I've been watching your vids on pull ups and chin ups (I suck at them) and you have really given me some good advice; some great ideas to augment what I'm already doing. I've never worked with just body weight before and I'm realizing how truly weak I am. Hence, the effort to do something about it. Again, thanks for the great tips.
ive been doing these work-outs for about 4 months now ,along with the hanging leg raises & my body control and core strength is out of this world now.thanks for sharing bro.
I like the exercises but you kinda sped through them and i can't really figure if i am doing them correctly could you make a more detailed video about how you do those exercises (knee to chest V reach ) just some ex...
@rs2wow omg LOL dude you just got fucked-up in front of everyone !! Damn . . . what an idiotic comment. . . . . Phew you seriously suck man calling Arash's training '' whack '' . You have a brain. Please learn to use it.
@strengthproject Maybe he doesn't understand the concept of body weight exercises. I mean If he wants to be able to deadlift a truck thats fantastic...... but it helps if you can pull yourself over a ledge... especially when chased by a horde of zombies.
nice video +1 :D btw.. I made a lot of exercise for my stomach, but still have a little fat on it.. any idea whats the best way to get rid of it? maybe something that i can do at home . thanks
This workout, works GREAT. Took me about 45mins to complete ( also threw in another couple sets of my own), 2 days my abs have been sore. Never had this feeling in a long time.
hey can i do calisthenics interval training everyday to get ripped or should i do them every other day. for example pull ups to push ups to squats etc etc. like that everyday or every other day.
@5graffitiartist5 I would think every other day would be better so you can let your muscles recover but i've been doing it every day for a while and its working great for me that way

I want to ask you, I am a young athlete, but can not make the abdominal muscles , do you thinking, how much time do I need?
Mr3z0z 1 year ago
The 1' crunches are killers but I love them. I stopped doing the full rise ab workout after a couple of times with friction rash I had in my lower back from the floor (and I use a gym mat).
morfeas333 1 year ago
So when you say 4 x 25 do you mean 4 sets of 25? or 25 sets of 4? lol...

This workout = a ticking timebomb for a destroyed back.
The function of the abs is spine stabilization not trunk flexion.

@strengthproject Do u take any supplements? Are you on any special diets?
MrSkiddee 1 year ago
@dankentheeldergod you stretch because not only does it strengthen the muscle you worked but also prevents injury and reduces soreness. Also great video!
rickypassword 1 year ago
Why is it so important to stretch after those exercises?
dankentheeldergod 1 year ago
It is good workouts. Who really cares if you work inside or out. You can do what is best for you. Why do we have to live up to others expectations. That is what is wrong in our world. If we went by what others thought we would be doing nothing. People should live their own lives. I say working inside is much nicer with all the equipment and the quietness.
I am grateful to gain new ideas. That is what you tubing is all about, it is learning new things to enhance the common mans life.

Is it recommended to do all of these exercises in one session?

@Mercer1628 well said mate
nobodyimportant13 11 months ago
@Mercer1628 I feel good with what u said. My husband and I's small business requires us to almost live on the road like truckers and we have to do our workout in rest areas. It embarrassed me sometimes because people might think we're showing off. We choose a spot where we can kinda hide from people. We dont have a choice but to do it there or not workout at all. "If we went by what others thought we would be doing nothing." very well said. Thank u.

@Mercer1628 um no, actually tubing is about being on a tube in water

hi, just wondering if you can make a strech video, showing what streches to do after excercising each muscle group, and explaining all the diff types of streches.
or if you have one already, any chance you can link me to it? ive looked but cant find any. and general utube just has pilates.
thank you kindly

Your stuff is the bomb, man; very inspirational. I've been watching your vids on pull ups and chin ups (I suck at them) and you have really given me some good advice; some great ideas to augment what I'm already doing. I've never worked with just body weight before and I'm realizing how truly weak I am. Hence, the effort to do something about it. Again, thanks for the great tips.
Cheers

@strengthproject Maybe he doesn't understand the concept of body weight exercises. I mean If he wants to be able to deadlift a truck thats fantastic...... but it helps if you can pull yourself over a ledge... especially when chased by a horde of zombies.

hey can i do calisthenics interval training everyday to get ripped or should i do them every other day. for example pull ups to push ups to squats etc etc. like that everyday or every other day.
5graffitiartist5 1 year ago
@5graffitiartist5 I would think every other day would be better so you can let your muscles recover but i've been doing it every day for a while and its working great for me that way
