Their acceleration is pretty pitiful, my RS does 0-60 in 8 seconds... Which is awful considering my Subaru Impreza WRX does it in 4.5-5.5 depending on the road.
i got a project 87 camaro z28 t top, and its got the old carb set up on it, last year for it. Its got a rochester 4 barrel quadrajet, do yall know wether or not it would beat a 305 TBI? also i should mention its got the emissions stripped and cherrybomb exhaust. I have a 2.8 donor car i can take the rear end out of, but i dont want to if its not needed to beat one of these... it is an automatic though. look at my vids if you wanna see or hear either car. nice vid
i have an 87 iroc that im swaping out right now, swaping out the lg4 (wich is this engine with a carb)- with vette l98- converting to carb--putting in cam- head work -exaust nothing too crazy with a t56-6spd---should be nice already have a 3.73 posi in... but that lg4 was just too damn slow...
the late model 305 TBI like mine which is an 89 are highoutput engines and GM designed the intake ports on the head with these bevels they called "swirl port heads" and they are shiiiit! that why the 305 tbi's are soo slow and you cant do nothing to make them fast so my machine shop guy told me to buy a different pair of heads so i went with 305 tpi heads
@Fast355 the swirl port heads don't allow you to rev past 4500, my machinest guy is one of the most famous chevy race car builders in ontario says you cant make any horsepower out of them.....im just passing on the memo..
tear out that tbi shit and put a carb man, u can do a conversion for under 300 bucks (mine was 278). much better accel out of it with a carb, and i have noticed 1-2 mpg improvement as well. i used an edelbrock intake 2701 which was 99 bucks at autozone, a carb adpt is is 20 bucks for the intake, and i bought a used rochester quadrajet carb for 40 and a rebuild kit for it at autozone for 12 bucks. the gaskets were about 29 bucks (performance gaskets), a new aircleaner for the carb was 30 bucks
not to sound like a dick, but my 84 firebird seems to pick up faster. mine has the 305 with the 800cfm quadrajet & the 700r4 tranny. i have no vids now, it will be out in the spring time.
My 92 firebird with just a 2.5inch cat back does 0-60 in 9.30 seconds last time i measured it, TBIs are alright anyways all they need is to breath some air, ppl install the lt1 camshaft on these 305 paired with some nice breathing heads like the 416s from the older 305s, tuned. Also the crappy highway 2.73 rearend is prolly why TBIs were so slow, im sure with something like a 3.23 or 3.73 should put the car in the 7 to 7.5 0-60 second range.
@3rd4thgenFbody Atm i just got a full mandrel pipe from the stock ypipe to the muffler then out of 2.25 in tubes to 3 inch tips, using an open element instead of the restrictive aircleaner setup, but i wanna fab my own cold air intake , when the temps gets hot my engine is breathing hot air from under the hood and thats not good for performance and fuel economy, i can actually feel the power loss on very hot days, it sucks. Headers and Ypipe are coming next to complete the exhaust.
@3rd4thgenFbody Well yeah with headers/ypipe and nice breathing catback there should really be a performance increase, specially with these cars. Gm installed such a restrictive exhaust on these cars that i wont even recoment them for a Geo Metro let alone a 5l V8, if u got the money a cam and head swap is pretty much what this 305s need to wake up, im not talking about fancy heads and cams, stock Lt1 cam and ported and polished 416 heads out of the old 305s is good enought.

@Midgetman303 sorry, 305's are good engines at what they were designed for, which is a well built, reliable, economic motor. When it comes to getting power, i dont understand why anyone would use a 305, 350's are about the same price, and easier to get, theres more of a market for performance parts, and its much much easier to milk power out of a 350, rather a 305...
@kkage2 the reason he did it was to use same amount of money as a friend of his. Trust me i'm not going to build a 305.. i have nitrous on mine now til it blows up. This engine can take a hell of a beating though. Once this is done i have a LS6 i'm dropping in my 90 RS. So i agree with you, i just don't think there the worst engines out there that GM made.
you could get in the 225 - 250 hp ballpark I suppose. The "tune" would be the trick. Getting all those new parts to work in a correct manner with one another. You can slap all those parts on and in it, but without new parameters for the ecm, it's all not going to perform as well as it could.
hah least you got a 305 least you can say hey i have a v8 in my camaro my 1990 RS got the v6 and lets just say its the slowest pos Ive ever had the privaledge to drive. Like if you think this is slow try the V6. takes me like 5 mins to hit 60
You know how to burn prom for you could do one for me since i am gonna stay with tbi since i found out you could get good numbers if you know how to tune them right
The TBIs are pretty good for a low budget, long lasting solution. They're durable and pretty efficient. You also have the ability to have a "accelerator pump" type function programmed into your prom, that is strictly achieved with injector pulse lengh, essentially, for free. Simply by tuning. But, for someone to "send you a tune" in most cases it still will not be 100% ideal for you. A true "custom" tune will be done under real driving conditions in your altitude, with you behind the wheel.
I'm going to stay with the TBI for now. It's alot easier to tune as far as the prom goes and I'd like to start with something a little easier to work with at first. I can also use my existing 305 TBI intake and stock PROM and only run the engine at around 70% capacity until I change the prom tune. I don't have anything againt TPI or carbs, it's just being TBI suits my need better, though I know it will yield less power, I will yield longer durability and reliance with the route I'm choosing.
I read an article in motor trend last year that said the standard car today weighs about the same as a standard car from 1973!!!!!! Honestly that's is hard to believe
I guess I could why... With all the electronics and the wiring along with them, as well as the way we're building more compact components, allowing us to fit more of them in, I can see where the weight could come close to balancing out. I had a nissan 300zx ( 93 Z32 model ) that weighed 3300 lbs. Kinda amazed me that a car that small could weigh so much, but then again, digital climate control, leather interiors, all power everything, 4 rotors etc etc... adds up in weight. Thanks for watching!
not really the base engine in a silverado is the 5.3 the 350 is only a 5.7... u can get a 6l in a truck the new camaro has the 6.2 couple of years ago you could get the 8.1 in a truck... yes theyre bigger than average but not huge
yeah but these days you usually only see those huge engines in trucks... sometimes in a new Dodge Charger or Challenger or some other sports car but cars (especially sedans) aren't regularly made with big block V8's like back in the 70's.
because they ar built to last', and big torque from big engine = big street driveability..
hondas can make 200hp 1.6 aspirated engines.. too bad that have no low end torque (in everyday use sucks) and they will never last 250.000 miles without breaking like american v8's... not to mention that most american v8 have same gas mileage (if not better) than small 1.8 / 2.0 4cylinders japanese petrol cars..
lower compression is the reason why these v8 engines that the big three (2 1/2 now if you don't fully count chrylser) of the late 70's up into the early 90's ran forever and got decent mpg. They outlasted the bodys of the vehicle most of the time. The company's were seriously downsizing there cars and made them way lighter. The cars today are heavier because of all the safety features.
there is a chip in the dash its called the fuel shut off switch u can probably hit bout 140 to 145 once thats out...and put 350 cranks in it....then id say if u ware wanting to be somewhat fuel efficient put a 600 to 750cfm carb in it..put some edelbrock heads on it and a flowmaster exhaust then yout set.put a new cam it it and ull be flyin..
The design of this engine was geared more towards reliability and economy.
As for the smog equipment, yes, it does have a small affect on horsepower, as it's a belt driven smog pump, as well as the fact that part of it's job is to recycle unburnt fuel, rather than only burn fresh air/fuel. If it's working correctly, it can have quite an impact on increasing the fuel mileage, as well as decreasing pollution. Removal can be as simple as a new belt to bypass the smog pump, and unhooking the EGR.
You could get way more detailed with the removal and use an EGR block plate, remove the smog pump, the connector tube that runs across the transmission bell, as well as the tubes running into the manifolds, and plug all the open bungs you now have (about 10). Then you'll need to get (or DIY) a flashed chip that no longer has smog control parameters in the PROM. Not doing the chip may or MAY NOT result in a SES light. It will run without flashing, but not at 100%.
I have a 1990 rs 305 and in all fairness they are not really quick cars. Why the Americans made such a large engine which produced so little power is beyond me. My 95 Prelude 2.2 is (or seems) faster and is more economical! I have taken the CAT off my Camaro and put a 2.5" exhaust on so she now at least sounds like a V8! What is all this about smog control on these cars is it easily removable and does it affect performance?
i dont get it, i have a 88 305 camaro tbi and i do 0-60 in about 7.3-7.5 depending on how it hooks up. is urs really high mileage? I have custom exhaust kit with straight pipe and high performance magnaflow catalytic converter. Maybe having no backpressure helps?
Keep working on your car & taking care of her & what work you put into it I'm sure will come back to help you out for whatever it is you want to do with your Camaro. Ignore the fools on here.
i pulling my L03 and im putting a L05 van 350 in its place. im also replacing the camshaft with an edlebrock unit. im sick of my car being slow. its not going to be that way, much longer....
I've already deleted several other senseless comments, and am on the verge of disabling them for this video. Constructive input is one thing, reporting back false times is another...
My 92 is a 305 tbi and all it has is exhaust upgrades and she gets up to 60 in about 6.5 seconds if my tires grab of course. I had a friend use his stopwatch on his cell. mine has 118k and still truckin like Chevy should.
thats what i though but i put brand autometer gauges in it and made sure tha tach was accuate. Under full throttle the car will shift around 50mph and at 6500 the vavle train in brand new
is it a OEM replacement valve train or an aftermarket? im not saying it cant rev that high im just saying with that many miles the top and bottom end would probably break at that many RPMs.
your tach is bad. this is a common problem for these cars. my 89 is the same way. get a sunpro and see what it does. i would realistically say it will shift at 5,000 rpm. 0-60 in 6 seconds is a little much as well. its probably more like 0-60 in 7.5 or so. dont get me wrong im not making fun of you i have the almost the same car. im just saying what you said is wishful thinking.
hey ive posted here before but I have another question. at wide open throttle how high does your car rev? mine only revs to 4500 at wot and its redline is at 5000.
My yellow line is at 4500, and the redline is at 5000. I believe mine shifts at about 4500, but, you can't rely on these stock tachs to be that accurate. Your engine may very well be shifting at 5000, but your tach is only showing 4500.
I've got an edelbrock open air element for it, but I don't like how close it sits to the coil. I took it off after a day of driving with it. I did like the sound of it. I spent all day today working on the hurst promatic 2 for it. Still not finished, but coming along nicely. Like I mentioned in the description, I think this is pretty safe to call "slow". I've got the hedders and the air cleaner to open it up a little and duals coming soon. Even with all that, it's not going to be impressive.
I wanted to add, with the dual exhaust, all the smog crap goes. With that goes the EGR. That means a new chip has to be burnt, and a block off plate for the valve itself has to be installed. I hope it will at least sound dangerous ;)
hahah there are just too many things you can do no need for the website, to make car faster in staright line you na put up a turbo which is expansive, or old air intake with mega fow exhaust thats the easy things you can do. if i had a camaro v8 ss i would put twin turbo and widened exhast also firm up the suspension
my 1992 RS ran a 15.5 before i put my 358 in it. That looks really tired, i suggest taking off the smog pump and get a delete pulley, then get a new air cleaner and a fresh exhaust.
If yours is in top shape, and his is the bone stock GT, then it will probably be a really close race. If your uncle has the GTP, don't race him. You'll never hear the end of it...
I have a '92 with the 305 tbi, just bought her, and now my 60 year old uncle wants to race me with his 2001 Grand Prix GT. Lol... but I'm wondering... who would win?! I can't lose! He'd harrass me for years!!! Does anyone know?
They do seem to be quite a reliable engine. I'm up to 215,000 miles on it, and while sitting still, you can barely tell it's even running. Quiet, smooth, and durable. If only they'd make more power... In October I'm picking up another one (5,500 miles since rebuild) just to have as a backup. People give these things away!
There was a previous post here, but since the little prick had an attitude, he got banned, and his message deleted. I would also like to add to my previous comment, that with a special order option of G92, you could get a TPI on the 305.
A note to any other posters, I ask that everyone keep it polite and respectful.
no mine is LO3 too. if it wasn't maintained well by the previous owner then thats probably why its slower. Luckily for me I know the only owner of mine and he is over 80 years old and always had it maintained by the dealer.
As for the year 1990 the only 305 available was the TBI(LO3). As for other years you had options like the LG4(4 bbl carb)and the L69(4 bbl carb H.O.)as well as the LB9(TPI)and the LU5(twin TBI - very rare). I'm not sure about the output of each one, but the LO3 was rated at 170 horses. Now I have something to wonder about all day at work... Thanks for watching!
I have a 1986 Z28 5-speed. 118k. the engine is a lg4, checked the engine code and it was stock with 155hp.... it does 0.60 in 9sec. it only has a edelbrock 600. and i cant get it over 5000 rpm. but there are some weights in the disturbuiter you can play around with if you dear;D
mine, when it ran right, went 0-60 in just about 9 flat. that was warm about 70 outside. and engine temp at around 165. then i got gears and ran 0-60 in about 7.5... now the motor is waiting to get replaced. it cuts out like no other. lol. so its getting pulled and a 320hp 350 is goin in. with 3.73 and a posi i ran a 60' time at the track of 2.378. would have ran the 1/4 in 15.5 but my car cut out and i ran a 16.5...sad, i know
Most of these "7 second" responses are a little off guys. Brand new 350 TPI's were in that range. We're talking about a worn out, stock, 305 L03 here...
If I'm wrong, please post some vids of those 305's. I'd love to see it!
Thank you. It's pretty quiet, but with a nice tone. I have some headman hedders for it, but with all the emissions stuff on there and working, I'm drawn between pulling it all off, and going with duals, or keeping it stock. I'm pretty sure I will pull it all, but only when I can get the duals done, a cam to take advantage of the new flow characteristics, and a chip that brings it all together. In fact, instead of a chip, I've been thinking of going with the megasquirt II.
Camaros have come a long way, I've got the LS1, glad I did.

This engine can take a hell of a beating though. Once this is done i have a LS6 i'm dropping in my 90 RS. So i agree with you, i just don't think there the worst engines out there that GM made.
Midgetman303 1 year ago
hey these came stock with 170hp right? so if you did a cam, headers and exhaust and a tune what kinda numbers do u think u could get?
74dodge92 2 years ago 2
you could get in the 225 - 250 hp ballpark I suppose. The "tune" would be the trick. Getting all those new parts to work in a correct manner with one another. You can slap all those parts on and in it, but without new parameters for the ecm, it's all not going to perform as well as it could.
titanrain1 2 years ago
@titanrain1 225 - 250 at the wheels or crank?
kkage2 1 year ago
hah least you got a 305 least you can say hey i have a v8 in my camaro my 1990 RS got the v6 and lets just say its the slowest pos Ive ever had the privaledge to drive. Like if you think this is slow try the V6. takes me like 5 mins to hit 60
feeblemind 2 years ago
hey it sounds great thats all that matters.
feeblemind 2 years ago
this makes me sad =(, but also much more motivated to get an lt1 swap

@eljorge22 LT1 = expensive....
kkage2 1 year ago
Is that hard to learn because i am really wanting to learn that tuning stuff to save myself some money
The91RS 2 years ago
You know how to burn prom for you could do one for me since i am gonna stay with tbi since i found out you could get good numbers if you know how to tune them right
The91RS 2 years ago
The TBIs are pretty good for a low budget, long lasting solution. They're durable and pretty efficient. You also have the ability to have a "accelerator pump" type function programmed into your prom, that is strictly achieved with injector pulse lengh, essentially, for free. Simply by tuning. But, for someone to "send you a tune" in most cases it still will not be 100% ideal for you. A true "custom" tune will be done under real driving conditions in your altitude, with you behind the wheel.
titanrain1 2 years ago
I am gonna do that swap to are you gonna keep the tbi or go carb or to tpi
The91RS 2 years ago
I'm going to stay with the TBI for now. It's alot easier to tune as far as the prom goes and I'd like to start with something a little easier to work with at first. I can also use my existing 305 TBI intake and stock PROM and only run the engine at around 70% capacity until I change the prom tune. I don't have anything againt TPI or carbs, it's just being TBI suits my need better, though I know it will yield less power, I will yield longer durability and reliance with the route I'm choosing.
titanrain1 2 years ago
What mods do you have in your car mine takes longer to reach 60 than yours i have a open exhaust and a open element with a kn filter
The91RS 2 years ago
No mods. Bone stock. Just everything functioning properly. 200,000 miles.
I've got the 350 that's replacing the 305. It will be a winter long project though.
titanrain1 2 years ago
I read an article in motor trend last year that said the standard car today weighs about the same as a standard car from 1973!!!!!! Honestly that's is hard to believe
1978mtb 2 years ago
I guess I could why... With all the electronics and the wiring along with them, as well as the way we're building more compact components, allowing us to fit more of them in, I can see where the weight could come close to balancing out. I had a nissan 300zx ( 93 Z32 model ) that weighed 3300 lbs. Kinda amazed me that a car that small could weigh so much, but then again, digital climate control, leather interiors, all power everything, 4 rotors etc etc... adds up in weight. Thanks for watching!

305's and 350's arent huge...
theman121093 2 years ago
well a 350 is kinda up there. those are big for today's standards.
Artyfil 2 years ago
not really the base engine in a silverado is the 5.3 the 350 is only a 5.7... u can get a 6l in a truck the new camaro has the 6.2 couple of years ago you could get the 8.1 in a truck... yes theyre bigger than average but not huge
theman121093 2 years ago
yeah but these days you usually only see those huge engines in trucks... sometimes in a new Dodge Charger or Challenger or some other sports car but cars (especially sedans) aren't regularly made with big block V8's like back in the 70's.
Artyfil 2 years ago
true to a point... the 09 impala ss has the 5.3... a Cadillac cts-v has a supercharged 6.2 with over 600hp and many more...

Emissions requirements. :(
Artyfil 2 years ago
=[ i kno rite
SgtSellz102 2 years ago
because they ar built to last', and big torque from big engine = big street driveability..
hondas can make 200hp 1.6 aspirated engines.. too bad that have no low end torque (in everyday use sucks) and they will never last 250.000 miles without breaking like american v8's... not to mention that most american v8 have same gas mileage (if not better) than small 1.8 / 2.0 4cylinders japanese petrol cars..
that is the difference,
mosquiton001 2 years ago
lower compression is the reason why these v8 engines that the big three (2 1/2 now if you don't fully count chrylser) of the late 70's up into the early 90's ran forever and got decent mpg. They outlasted the bodys of the vehicle most of the time. The company's were seriously downsizing there cars and made them way lighter. The cars today are heavier because of all the safety features.
1978mtb 2 years ago
Why not? there's no displacement tax...and these motors have fuel efficiency similiar if not better than a lot of small japanese engines.
These particular engines are a result from smog controls from the 80's.
masospaghetti 2 years ago
305 is a little motor and most of it was because of emissions and all that
JProckz28 2 years ago
there is a chip in the dash its called the fuel shut off switch u can probably hit bout 140 to 145 once thats out...and put 350 cranks in it....then id say if u ware wanting to be somewhat fuel efficient put a 600 to 750cfm carb in it..put some edelbrock heads on it and a flowmaster exhaust then yout set.put a new cam it it and ull be flyin..
rm125rider7 2 years ago
That looked more like 8 or 9 seconds to 60. That speedometer swept through the numbers pretty good for a 0 to 60 10 second run.
LT1HILLINGHOE 2 years ago
The design of this engine was geared more towards reliability and economy.
As for the smog equipment, yes, it does have a small affect on horsepower, as it's a belt driven smog pump, as well as the fact that part of it's job is to recycle unburnt fuel, rather than only burn fresh air/fuel. If it's working correctly, it can have quite an impact on increasing the fuel mileage, as well as decreasing pollution. Removal can be as simple as a new belt to bypass the smog pump, and unhooking the EGR.
titanrain1 2 years ago
You could get way more detailed with the removal and use an EGR block plate, remove the smog pump, the connector tube that runs across the transmission bell, as well as the tubes running into the manifolds, and plug all the open bungs you now have (about 10). Then you'll need to get (or DIY) a flashed chip that no longer has smog control parameters in the PROM. Not doing the chip may or MAY NOT result in a SES light. It will run without flashing, but not at 100%.
titanrain1 2 years ago
I have a 1990 rs 305 and in all fairness they are not really quick cars. Why the Americans made such a large engine which produced so little power is beyond me. My 95 Prelude 2.2 is (or seems) faster and is more economical! I have taken the CAT off my Camaro and put a 2.5" exhaust on so she now at least sounds like a V8! What is all this about smog control on these cars is it easily removable and does it affect performance?
MrBRERETON 2 years ago
making the engine with such low horsepower... makes them seemingly unbreakable and very reliable as in durability... that how my car is
sinisterseven8 2 years ago 2
i dont get it, i have a 88 305 camaro tbi and i do 0-60 in about 7.3-7.5 depending on how it hooks up. is urs really high mileage? I have custom exhaust kit with straight pipe and high performance magnaflow catalytic converter. Maybe having no backpressure helps?

Domman56 2 years ago
My 92 is a 305 tbi and all it has is exhaust upgrades and she gets up to 60 in about 6.5 seconds if my tires grab of course. I had a friend use his stopwatch on his cell. mine has 118k and still truckin like Chevy should.
xforevernx 3 years ago
I have a 90 camaro 305 it has 180K on it and it will run o-60 in 6 seconds and shifts at 7000 under full throttle The only upgrade is a dual exhaust.
TomandBritt 3 years ago
My 90 305 camaro now has new heads on it and a posi rear. it really woke up the 305. The car is fun to really fun to drive.
TomandBritt 3 years ago
your tach is over reading. redline on a 305 is 5000 rpm and with 180k miles 7000 rpm is a good way to tear you valve train up quickly
CamaroTBI 3 years ago
thats what i though but i put brand autometer gauges in it and made sure tha tach was accuate. Under full throttle the car will shift around 50mph and at 6500 the vavle train in brand new
TomandBritt 3 years ago
is it a OEM replacement valve train or an aftermarket? im not saying it cant rev that high im just saying with that many miles the top and bottom end would probably break at that many RPMs.
CamaroTBI 3 years ago
well the engine was rebuilt 3 years aga and i just put a set of edelbrock elimited heads on the car 4 days ago
TomandBritt 3 years ago
so it doesnt have 180k miles on the engine? well the stock bottom end could take that I guess. what about your fuel and ignition system?
CamaroTBI 3 years ago
no the trans does that is my next upgrade. Ignition is bullit HEI and the fuel system is stock with just a new OEM pump and filter
TomandBritt 3 years ago
your tach is bad. this is a common problem for these cars. my 89 is the same way. get a sunpro and see what it does. i would realistically say it will shift at 5,000 rpm. 0-60 in 6 seconds is a little much as well. its probably more like 0-60 in 7.5 or so. dont get me wrong im not making fun of you i have the almost the same car. im just saying what you said is wishful thinking.
ad356 3 years ago
the car has autometer gauges in it and a fresh 305 with pro comp heads on it the car makes 320 and 340hp. It all so has a posi rear.
TomandBritt 3 years ago
i am building a engine for the car. Its a 502 that i am building from the block up and putting a 5 speed in as well.
TomandBritt 3 years ago
ok i thought it was stock.

i've got the same engine in my 91 firebird and it runs a 0-60 at about 8...but yours is still runnin pretty good ar 208k...
drumstixer 3 years ago
208K miles, damn it stil runs pretty good. mines up to 170K.
ad356 3 years ago
slap the 225 shot to it..
Junglemonkey1457 3 years ago
hey ive posted here before but I have another question. at wide open throttle how high does your car rev? mine only revs to 4500 at wot and its redline is at 5000.
CamaroTBI 3 years ago

Even with all that, it's not going to be impressive.
titanrain1 3 years ago
I wanted to add, with the dual exhaust, all the smog crap goes. With that goes the EGR. That means a new chip has to be burnt, and a block off plate for the valve itself has to be installed. I hope it will at least sound dangerous ;)
titanrain1 3 years ago
Is there a website explaining exactly what you need to do?
ChrisXCXCX 2 years ago
hahah there are just too many things you can do no need for the website, to make car faster in staright line you na put up a turbo which is expansive, or old air intake with mega fow exhaust thats the easy things you can do. if i had a camaro v8 ss i would put twin turbo and widened exhast also firm up the suspension
gaivoron 2 years ago
my 1992 RS ran a 15.5 before i put my 358 in it.

I love the 305's they run forever! And run well, at that! I wonder what mine will do.
Aarons1992RS 3 years ago
They do seem to be quite a reliable engine. I'm up to 215,000 miles on it, and while sitting still, you can barely tell it's even running. Quiet, smooth, and durable. If only they'd make more power... In October I'm picking up another one (5,500 miles since rebuild) just to have as a backup. People give these things away!
titanrain1 3 years ago
There was a previous post here, but since the little prick had an attitude, he got banned, and his message deleted. I would also like to add to my previous comment, that with a special order option of G92, you could get a TPI on the 305.
A note to any other posters, I ask that everyone keep it polite and respectful.
titanrain1 3 years ago
10 seconds? why so slow? mine does around 7.5 or 8 and i have 163k miles on it.
CamaroTBI 3 years ago
I'm not sure. This one has 208,000, and was not maintained well before I got it. I have the LO3, perhaps you have one of the higher output models?
titanrain1 3 years ago
no mine is LO3 too. if it wasn't maintained well by the previous owner then thats probably why its slower. Luckily for me I know the only owner of mine and he is over 80 years old and always had it maintained by the dealer.
CamaroTBI 3 years ago
If I'm not mistaken, arent their two different 305's that were available? One was rated 170hp, and another is just over 200hp I believe.
joshnc101 3 years ago
As for the year 1990 the only 305 available was the TBI(LO3). As for other years you had options like the LG4(4 bbl carb)and the L69(4 bbl carb H.O.)as well as the LB9(TPI)and the LU5(twin TBI - very rare). I'm not sure about the output of each one, but the LO3 was rated at 170 horses. Now I have something to wonder about all day at work... Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching!
