  • legends never die.

  • Wonderful footage. May Srinivas' dreams come true. :)

  • 1:49...Pa Pa Ma Ri Ri Ga Ri and ghatam e m subramaniams double speed chollu.....tranquility....bliss.....heaven!

  • let's get real here, who doesn't love that accent?

  • 4.04. 'the eric clapton of the east' What a insult! There's a man who knows very little of what he is hearing.

The frets on that mandolin are massive! Anyone know how he tunes it? Is it mandolin tuning plus a couple more strings, or guitar tuning, or completely different?

  • That's not a mandolin. It's a tenor guitar. Mandolin's have 8 strings, 4 sets of 2, don't they? This only has 6

  • @rscrob That's why it's called the INDIAN mandolin. Indians have also adapted the western violin in 2 ways. The tuning & position of the violin!!

    Nick

  • @rscrob Hi, try stopping the video at 1:42 and count the strings.

  • @deweycal It has six tuning heads.

  • @rscrob six tuning machines but only five strings

  • Comment removed

  • @blanknameblah it has 6 tuning heads

  • @rscrob but in the case it only has five strings, unless i am not seeing a string

  • SHAKTI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sounds as if coming from the heavens above.

  • this guy is so inspirational. i wish that i could play my mandolin like he does. so good.

  • sounds awesome, but that looks more like a tiny guitar than a mandolin.

  • True, he has made modifications to the standard mandolin - such as using a different tuning and thicker gage strings replacing the dual string arrangement in the mandolin. :)

  • Very Sweet Man and very sweet player.

  • Wow wow wow. Truly inspiring! I have been a huge fan of Sri Srinivas since childhood. He is unparalleled in his field. Long live Srinivas & his music!

  • Fantastics. I ahve long been a fan of Indian Classical music starting with Sitar, and now Violin and Mandolin. This beats anything coming out of the West.

  • Think about his devotion to this, his religious attitude about music and a desire to go deeper and deeper into it. Then think about hip hop and most of the other drivel on American commerical radio. What a joke that Jay Z has millions of dollars...

  • What a joke...?

EXACTLY. But THIS music will go on forever, so many others are just fads & fashions & die off.

  • @koreankayagum

I think about this EVERY day. This is the tragedy of American/Western culture

  • @Jazzyteach65

western technology is helping us enjoy this video.

Weatern technology is a product of western thinking.

Western thinking is a product of Western culture.

  • @koreankayagum

Western classical music will also go on forever.

Indian filmi music too will be doomed because it's .....

  • @koreankayagum

I'd much rather experience playing and making music like this than have Jay Z's millions.

  • @koreankayagum you can't compare this music to hip hop. You can't compare spiritual music and popular music.

Indian music speak to the spirit with notes. Hip hop speak to people with words. These are two different worlds, each one very respectable.

  • Wonderful!!

  • Great !

  • yo, that concert hall is awesome too. what is it called?

  • An Indian treasure amazingly fluid and super humble.

  • this is what we call Indian blues,,,Keep rockin Mr .Srinivas..

  • What a wonderful musician with such a humility, he defines mandolin music. God blessed us all with his divine music

  • ha ha 4:00

  • Srinivas, You are a beacon of hope, as this world is thrown asunder. You are a musical avatar, bringing tradition and wisdom forward into a new kind of art that the whole world will come to understand. In all the turbulence we are now experiencing, you bring flow and continuity to the art of music. This is our most universal art form, music. Thank you, for your courage in bringing us along into the next age of the growth of humankind.

  • A great insight into the genius that is Srinivas with a fantastic interveiw too! Thank you.

  • Superb video! Thanks for uploading! U. Srinivas is my all-time favorite carnatic musician.
