Anyone have any trouble connecting the fans to the power supply? This will be my first attempt at it and I have no idea where exactly they should be connected. Could someone possibly explain it or link me to another vid that does?
runs soooo much better after installing two case fans. FYI, in case no one has mentioned it, if you pop the front side of the case off there are already screw holes to mount a 80mm case fan. Great circulation.
I bought this computer refurbished for $450 online. You definitly need to throw some case fans on there. I put a 120mm in back and an 80mm in the front under the drive bays. It actually works great for me, I have not had one problem with it. I even upgraded the PSU and put an HD 5850 in there and it has been really awsome, playing crysis on high settings at 1680x1050 at about 35FPS. With a little tinkering I think it is a great value.
I have this computer as well - I was thinking about upgrading the video card from the stock gt 120 to the Radeon HD 5770. Would this improve performance/quality significantly?
Thanks for showing the fans. It helped alot to see what they look like inside the same case as the computer I am getting. I ordered it before reading about the problems but instead of returning it I am thinking I'll just keep it and put the fans on right away and hopefully that will be enough. I am not a gamer so if it will play youtube, hulu, and netflix without crapping out I will be happy.
This is a terrible computer. Do not buy. I've been using this computer to game on light source engine games. It overheats and just shuts down. Rarely afterwards it will not turn on until cools down. Gateway failed and decided to be cheap. Did not include any case fans. I added my own 120mm blue LED case fan at the back. Hasn't crashed since then. The graphics card is cheap. I'm planning on upgrading the gt120 to a hd5770. SAVE YOU'RE MONEY. DO NOT BUY THIS.
@bestSVMS Yes it hasn't overheated since then and seems to work fine. I also added a front 80mm case fan. If you are planning to game, do your self a favour and build one. I tried replacing the current GFX with the HD5770 and something wouldn't allow it to run a maximum performance so I had to return it. I'm guessing the cheap motherboard was bottlenecking.
turns off randomly!!!! i thought it was over heating but best buy said it was the powersuply then it did it again after they said they fixed. they said they fixed it four times fucking piss me off!
@landslidesk8 it most likely is overheating. check for dust between the fins. and did bestbuy actually change the psu? or did they just claim they did.
Yeah the panel comes off.. on the top in the inside there are these little black sticking out things.. push them in on both the front and back and the front cover pops out.. that's where at the bottom you can remove the panel (you can also place it back in so try not to break it)
Overheating, and then it shuts down like someone unpluged it? How long have you had yopur computer? I added the 120 mm fan and cant figure out how to incorporate the 80mm. Any suggestions?
It will overheat in 3-6months and shut down. I will try to install the case fans and see how that turns out. I love this mahine and dont want to give it up.
Mine works fine. See if you can return it, as the reviews i read said gatway support is useless. I have not added anything to mine except those 2 fans. What kinda shutdowns you having?
I thought your review was adequate because it was from a user's perspective. I have ordered one of these computers and I want to install the extra fans as you recommend. Where did you tie into to get power for them?
I love this computer. I bought the same one.. the LX6810-01, from bestbuy. Mine started overheating on me, and I do some moderate gaming (playing world of warcraft, crysis, call of duty 4, counterstrike source, sims3, etc.). I got pissed off with it and ended up upgrading some parts. I added a 120mm case-fan on the back set to suck air out of the case. I also swapped out the processors heatsink with a V1 Thermaltake cooling system (100% copper with 4 heatpipes and internal fan).
The V1 cooler has an internal 120mm fan also, with an adjustment for speed. I set it to high. I also changed the video card out, and added a BFG GTS250 1gb overclocked card. It only uses 1 pci express slot, but takes up the space of 2 slots. It's perfect though, because it fits perfect in the case and also has a cooling system that sucks heat out of the back of the case through one of the expansion bays for the cards. Then I upgraded the power supply, swapped it out with a 650 watt Antec PS.
After doing all that, i added a UPS (universal power supply) to regulate the voltage going to the computer. I've never had a better setup, and havent had any temperature issues since doing all that. As I type this, my quad core processor temps are at: 44c, 37c, 42c, 35c. Thats with moderate use. Full system Idle is about 34c across all cores, and under a load they sit at around 48-50c. Perfect.
No it wouldnt have been cheaper to build me own... I spent about 250 to do the upgrades to the pc and i spent another 100 or so to get the UPS, which was optional.... obviously you dont HAVE to have any of it. I upgraded the video card because I wanted to, and the fan / power supply were must haves. The UPS was something i wanted as well.
Swapping out the cooler did involve taking the motherboard out and the x-backplate.. but it wasnt all that difficult, I work on computers anyway. The system I have now, cost me about 1000 dollars total, and is WELL worth it with everything that I have.
I recently bought this computer. It was surprisingly cheap to upgrade into a semi-decent gaming computer. I just added a new PSU and a factory overclocked 4850 IceQ4 Turbo from HIS and am playing Crysis on high to very high settings at around 30 fps (but at only 720p of course). I max most multiplatform games out. I think I spent less than $150 in upgrades of the card and PSU.
I bought the same sized case fans you did but went with more expensive Silverstone fans with controllers built in.
I upgraded my PSU to a 650W Tuniq PSU for only about $50 including the rebate on newegg. That deal is still available. It's almost silent and rock solid.
I thought the biggest weaknesses of this computer were the weak video card, the marginal PSU, and the surprising lack of cooling. Everything else was pretty nice, though. Now that I've upgraded all those things, I don't feel like I need to do much else to it.
I have this computer as well - I was thinking about upgrading the video card from the stock gt 120 to the Radeon HD 5770. Would this improve performance/quality significantly?
hey I try to overclock the cpu on this pc from the BIOS and it seems to be locked. Do you know anything about overclocking this cpu

you're supposed to add the 80mm fan in the front... the little stickers plate thing comes off from the inside

i know except the front panel would prevent the fann from working

I also clean the fan that was by the mother board- heat sink. So far I'm watching tv and on the internet and no shutdowns:) I see in a day.

After like 2-3 months, there will be a billow cloud of dust( Thats how it was for me.) Make sure to check between the cpu fins
you get filters or something?

keep it clean with compressed air

kk thanx bro
another question is how long have u had ur lx6810 and has it had a random shutdown?
xXxFLYMODE69xXx 2 years ago
4 months?
not a hardware failure. Some software such as bsods from installing a incapatible driver, windows update shutting it down and restarting,
bestSVMS 2 years ago
Have you had shutdowns? I just had my pwer supply replaced and it shut downs on me again.

@Kingsherry

bestSVMS 2 years ago
should i position the 120 mm fan so it is facing out so the hot air is going out or facing in so its pushing more cold air in?
xXxFLYMODE69xXx 2 years ago
the 120mm fan push air out of case.
The little fan pushes air in. It is negitive pressure, so dust acuumilates rather fast, but it works well.

wow you paid about 400$ to upgrade this?
you swapped out the cooler, doesnt that involve taking out mobo to put backplate in?
you might as well built your own.
i dont use it to play games often, i reall just surf web as of now, watch lots of youtube, and sometimes play games and encode some movies.
just make sure you dust often. On my side vent fan, you can see a layer of dust form in a couple days.
my back case fan is dusty already

thanks for the advice! definitely i'm going to get a extra fan! this pc its already in my wish list
how much is the fan?
seed1433 2 years ago
10$ for a cooler master high performance 120mm led fan on amazon
5$ for a high performance coolermaster fan 80mm
it is kind of loud though
try to find a quiter 80mm fan
and make sure the fans have molex pass though, since the psu only has one conector

How do i use the RLV things to play my xbox
Ultrablader360 2 years ago
Connect the output(rlv) of your xbox to the front ports on the panel
and try to get media center to accept it(no real capture software)
You might want to set it up as a set-top box. I havent tried it but play around
If you have this same computer
you can try using powerdirecter program.
There might be some lag.
