  • @buffyjosmom, this song came out during the peacetime era, meaning before all these war broke out.....FYI.

  • I live in Pittsburgh, my father works at standard forge down in the rocks, he works so much i berely see him, he does it for his family, so id like to swing this one his way as well, thanks dad =]

  • This song's for you Papaw 70yrs old and still working 40+hrs a week in the coal mines in Illinois & before that the KY Coal Mines.

  • They should've added our men & women in the military in there. The men & women who don't hear thank you near enough. They put their lives on the line only to return to a country that doesn't want them back.

  • thank you mom and dad

  • Haha I love this song I had to sing it for something in like 4th grade haha

  • I love this song, but everyone I know works more than 40 hours a week, nowadays. The part about the Kansas wheat field farmer gets me every time.. Us farmers work more like 60 hour weeks. XD

  • Wow, too bad it's not like this anymore

  • It's time to rally brothers, it's time to set mother freedom back on the prosperous course. Need to say goodbye to the progress stopping liberals. Keystone pipeline latest example.

  • does anyone remember the days when things were made in America not just assembled?

  • whose the guy that disliked this video your probably not an American!

  • 40+ hours a week for 40 years, and I am still going. Can't make it in this world with a 40 hour week anymore. It is so sad!!!! My daddy is almost 60 and is still going!!! God bless Detroit. God bless the hard working men and women of America, and lets bring our companies home!!! Send them foreign sons o bitches back to china!

  • I love all of alabama's country music

  • My father would work overtime every single week for the money. He would do miracle work... In miracle time.... He now has arthritis, his back's bad from the military back in the '80s, he has a problem that 1 out of 10,000 people get in his brain because his brain is sending 2 signals to his heart instead of just 1, he is a beaten up 47-year-old man who battles the VA for disability benefits. This song goes out to him.

  • Without the 40 hour workers, the gamblers on wallstreet, would be jumpin` in front of trains.God will bless us all.

  • Austria, Thank you! I believe in the same America as you.

  • That´s the America we belive in - not the America of the politics! America is great when it come back to its roots! Greetings from Austria!

  • A little upsetting that they didn't even mention their own home town of Fort Payne Alabama , where until recently was the largest sock mill town in the USA!

  • Anyone else notice the man riding the old bike at 2:34?

  • steel mill workers theres very little of them here in PA

  • that looks like a dangerous job

  • Comment removed

  • @jwmckin08: There's one thing that dangerous jobs and safe jobs have in common, and that thing is that someone has to do them. I've gotta be under a mountain in an hour and a half helping to cut out coal seams. Some of my coworkers don't know anything else and some do it just to support their families.

I quit a cushy desk job as a loan agent to go underground because I got no self-respect out of it. Helping a bank swindle money didn't satisfy me like working my knuckles to the bone does.

  • ALABAMA!! Lemme thank ya for your great music!!

  • Not to say that it is ONLY conservatives who like country music...after all I'm listening too :-), but the attitude that the free market can control itself is WHY no one can work 40 hrs any longer and raise a family. So keep up the union busting, making people choose between food and medical care, deregulation and tax breaks for bloated corporations who then send jobs overseas by voting for republicans or worse....TEA BAGGERS, and it will only get worse. Thanks to Alabama, we get to remember...

  • @tundrazwolf calling them "tea baggers" is just low...

  • @tundrazwolf low taxes for everybody. have the government offer low taxes to companies that keep jobs here and even lower taxes if they pay them good wages. than cut spending and stop policing the world. we do that and the economy should get better.

  • @skatelongboards See that is a common misconception. Taxes are lower now than 20 or 30 yeaqrs ago when the economy was BOOMING. If you lower taxes on the "job creators" all that they do is squirrel it away since there are no good jobs RIGHT NOW which allow people to have income to spend to create demand for products from those "job creators". Taxes have to be kept low for low and middle income citizens while RAISING them substantially on corporations (NOT small businesses) and the TRULY wealthy

  • @tundrazwolf Why should they be the only ones to bear most of the tax burden? thats not right they worked to get that rich and should keep most of their money. and No im not saying goldman Sachs and the people that were bailed out were hard workers- they cheated the system and cheated the middle class.

btw what you said is also a misconception. taxes were higher yes but nobody actually paid that amount. their were just as many loopholes back than as their were today.

  • @skatelongboards You need to do a little INDEPENDENT research and not just swill the "kool-aid" ladled out to you by the Glenn Becks and Shawn Hannity's. The MARGINAL tax rate (forget the loop holes...they will ALWAYS be there) for the wealthiest citizens is now the LOWEST it has ever been! They are doing FANTASTIC in this economy....in fact their median incomes are up nearly 200 to 300 PERCENT since the 80's while middle income people (those in the 50K to 300K range) have been FLAT.

  • @tundrazwolf lol i take it your a msnbc watcher or a huffpost user considering u just said i watched fox news and i like glenn beck. im a moderate that leans libertarian. thats a tactic progressives use when they cant win a argument. they flame the other person and equare them with Hitler or a fox news watcher if they disagree with you.

your blaming the wrong people. if you would like we can discuss this in private message as what im gonna say is to long for a regular post. google fed reserve.

  • @skatelongboards Yeah...I do watch MSNBC.....& Fox......&CNN.......AND read...A LOT! I'm a left leaning centrist who believes in capitalism....REGULATED capitalism. Libertarians have some good things to say about how the govt. should be run, BUT the reliance on the old saw about "THE FED" is the problem isso overblown. The gold standard was abandoned for good reason. Now can there be abuse of the kind of power that the fed has....of course! But there just needs to be MORE regulation...not less.

  • This is like a promotional video for what America USED to be and stand for. No more. Detroit is a unemployable slum, Pittsburgh is tarnished and so on. The capitalist train has "rolled on down the line." The never ending quest for cheap labor has ruined our once great nation. Working class folks in America are screwed. 40 hour week? Try 100, over three jobs at the same pay as 40 when the this song came out. Then, all the fat cats who have taken taken taken want a tax cut?

  • this should be a chevy commercial there all chevy go chevy!!

  • So many jobs being lost to robots and slackers who work just enough not to get fired......

  • 1 person likes justin bever lol that likes pop

  • This song makes me think of how the people who do the real work are soooo under appreciated. They get paid nothing and are then called "unproductive" because of the size of thier pay check. I get paid more for sitting in an air conditioned office than these guys do for killing themselves.

  • Own my own company and I long for a 40 hour week... but I wouldnt trade it for nothing. I Love my Business!!! Can't wait to be big enough to hire some workers too... So long as Obamacare is Cancelled and there are no Unionss involved... Im a fair man and Dont need a Union RIp telling me how to handle my business... I work SWEAT,BLOOD, and TEARS to build my business and so will ANYONE (including my wife) that works for me.

  • Lol 1 dislike. Obviously there is 1 who does not participate in the working life. I remember when a 40 hour week could help ya through for awhile. I myself work at least 80 but that is nowaday standards. Back when this song was made 40 hours was sufficient.

  • The could do a revised song "I used to do a 40hr week for a livin"

  • Blue collar union guy and proud IUOE! Gotta love Alabama need more bands like them

  • We The people who work 40 hours a week just to keep a roof over our head and the bread on the table are the ones who keep America up and running im only 16 but i cant wait to put in 40 hours :)

  • country music is the best

  • I'm a computer programmer and sit at a desk, but I still work. In any case, I remember listening to this song every time I went camping with my family. I think it's time America got back to the basics and started appreciating our own again regardless of occupation. Otherwise everything is going to get outsourced to China and India. We Americans charge more but it's worth it. Quality delivered, America. Let's tell Obama that.

  • Did anyone catch the asian, black, and (perhaps) latino after 2:49? I think the guy with the broom was latino he could be something else but certainly they were trying to be PC in this video...

  • If you cant feed em, dont breed em!!!!

  • my mama works forty hours and i love her for it

  • @OrangeFlair thats average 40 hours aint anything special

  • Great song i work 40 hours a week in a book factory

  • @redneck2010ize I read books and I thank you for that.

  • its to bad that one cant make a real living on a 40 work week, if you are that lucky to work 40 hours. Think its time to go back to the old ways of doing things

  • where i work, we care about the quality. I work at Corning Incorporated's diesel plant in Erwin, NY our products are made in America. We make the Catalytic converters for diesel vehicles and heavy equipment. I work in the factory as the average joe. so this song hits home every time, cause No One thanks us factory workers for anything anymore. not even the Big Wigs of Corning. But someone has to do the job.

  • This video makes me miss the 80s

  • one of the greatest hits alabama did. Its a shame they don't do a comeback tour.

  • good bye,detroit,pittsburgh where are they know,ruble

  • @bummercal

    Kansas is still thriving!

  • @mikeh785 lets hope so with this new wave of maoist gov.

  • I love the guy that goes by on the old fashioned bike around 2:34.

  • So where are the railroad workers? That is one of those all American jobs. Ha ha. Still, a good song.

  • i wish i only had 40 hour weeks during harvast.. in 2 weeks 215 hours with minimum 12 hour days but its the best job in the world

  • @volff130 if it wasnt so tough (in Texas anyway) to get machinery land and such i would be a farmer i love tractors and plows and wanted to farm when i was little now i plan on workin on an oil rig

  • @cookstonkerry1 oilrig, man thats a rough job

  • @volff130 i know but hey aint everbody gonna do it (same for farming) it aint for the sqemish

  • @cookstonkerry1 ya farming takes alot, but i definitly couldnt work on a oil rig

  • @volff130 nice talkin to ya =)

  • @volff130 oil rig is actually a very easy job, to me at least, basically just a far over paid janitor, and you only work 6 months out of the year....

  • They need to come out with a new version for todays world. 70 to 80 sounds about right. 40 would be a freaking drink on a beach for me...and a lot of other people!

  • @halfbarreled amen

  • Steel mill work is especially nasty..dangerous, taxing..makes ya old before your time..yet they built this country, the ones who did the nasty, dirty work..they were well worth what they were paid..corporate greed did us in..

  • this song came out when American workers were appreciated and not exploited!!

  • Hey to all my youtube people i just want to say i love this song it bring back to me and my boyfriend he work the nite shift i no he work hard for his money and plus he going be a daddy in two months from today he been there for me evertime and he pay our bills on time and have time to spend time with me and he rub my belly and said to our two twin boy's he said he love us and cant wait to hold u guys in his arms i no he work his butt off and he is a nite leader at his job

  • THIS IS COUNTRY MUSIC.......WHERE DID U GO....COME BACK!

  • They will be getting paid soon. I have spoken.

  • what in the fuck is that crossing the screen at 2:35? hahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • @michaelrobertsnider haha...A guy on a unicycle :)

  • @michaelrobertsnider

    It's a penny farthing.

  • This song reminds me of when everybody had a job and had normal days off

  • This is a great video.

  • This song is like the good old days when everybody had a job and worked 40 hours a week but now and days people are barely paying their bills and they need to work more hours than needed just because the government is giving all the jobs overseas and that's hurting America

  • @countryrules64 yeah and i read that the guy who founded dell computer is griping that he can't find skilled american labor anymore..hah! this is after he offshored it all!!

  • Great song, I wish I could pay my bills only doing 40 hrs a week.

  • @ledfoot73 you're really right!!!!!

  • Who cares about the quality.

  • its sad the sound quality isn't there, the video isn't bad compared to others
