Oh my goodness, tipping! Yes please! I'm a busgirl and I get drinks, take drinks, check for people needing anything else (to avoid kitchen running for the waiter), take dishes, run the checks through, get dessert orders, whatever. All my waitstaff does is get food from the kitchen and take orders. I can work for 3 hours and barely get a dollar for all the work from my waitstaff. (My boss says it's supposed to be ten cents on the dollar but it never is.) Waiters, please be nice to your bussers!

STOP THE BEGGING ... WAITERS TRYING TO BE BEGGARS...
@axdxaxm First of all. Did you not read my comment? I AM SPOILED!
Second of all, "Usually when I am with my friends..." This statement means that it's more than just me and two others. Me and my friends go to restaurants that aren't exactly cheap.
Third of all, my mum used to work as at a hotel... so I know how it feels to not get any tips, when you're being paid minimum wage - you rely on tips.
And lastly I don't care if you believe me or not. Besides you don't know me at all.
BTW... Tip Pooling is Optional/ Voluntary, and only done by the employees. The employer cannot force you to "tip-pool" (IT IS ILLEGAL). If they did/ do, get lawyer and sue them to hell and back. And make sure you sue them for every penny they have. :)
ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh........ Move it over to the left. THANK YOU! I got those questions wrong in math all year last year because I was busy playing bloons TD4.....
hey upid if it is a buffet, and yes i meant to say upid. You can eat for as long as you are alive, or til you want to leave, some resturaunts may say no loitering whatever you cant sit at the table and talk but as long as your eating, slo or fast, you can live at that resturant..... not 3 hours like you said but anyways im talking about buffets
I love this video! I have been serving for 3 years now and i am a single mom. so there for a no-tip table really hurts. Diapers and formula are not free. please tip at least 15% people. If i did a good job and boxed your food or brought you what ever that outrageous request you had was, LEAVE MORE
First of all. 15% is not hard to figure out. Most states only pay 7-8% tax, so double the tax and thats around 15, but THATS not the problem with what you said. Newbie servers or decent servers should get 15%. An experienced and professional server should ALWAYS get 20% or over. It's not a hard concept and with all the busting ass we do so YOU can eat, it's the least you can do. Tips are not optional, don't tip me you can't come back to the resteraunt.
In my country, there's something called service charge (which is an automatic tip) so, total food + 5% service charge + 5% govt. tax...that's how people in my country have to pay in a restaurant...
eh well if I'm going out with my friends we generally overtip, if the bill is under 80 we'll just tip $10-$15 and leave it at that, if it's over then we calculate and add an extra dollar or two if we have money left XD
Good thing I tip well and am patient with waiters! My sister is a waiter at an old person's home and she cant get tips. . . . old people are some of the most impatient people ever!
another way to figure out a tip, double the tax. that gets you pretty close to the ball park, but a little more would be good XD I apologize to all the watiers that i have gibbed out on earlier D: with this knowledge I shall try not to be a spawn of satan anymore :)
Thats illegal in the UK, they can't pay you that little. The Minimum wage is £5.89 an hour thats $9.49. You would have to get at least that an hour, period, no exceptions. Then tips on top of that, you should come to England and be a waiter :-)
My major is hospitality so I feel for the waiters and waitresses and usually leave a 20 - 25% tip, more if I like the waiter. I know that's going overboard, but I know how much they make, because I use to be a room server and made $2.89 an hour. Anyway, if I ever came to your state and saw you waiting, I would give you a nice tip. Okay, one thing. What was that at the end all about? I just burst out laughing.
Hey Schubes, have you ever waited on someone and have them recognize you from YouTube? For example: "Hey, aren't you that Schubes guy?" or something along those lines? It happens to me at least once, twice a week at my job.
So I'm friends with my cousin on facebook, who is a waitress, and I just read a status that said "4 hours and 35 minutes!!! And ur gonna leave me $5 ARE YOU INSANE? Curse you table 31..." and 4 hours? WWOW....and such a small tip...terrible.
They used to have the same system here (in England) too, but I think they changed the law a couple of years back so that waiters got full wages plus tips, which is the way it should be. A tip should be a bonus, it's "Yeah, you did okay, have some extra", not "Yeah, you did okay, here's some wages". Makes me angry when restaurants do that >.< [/rant]
Thanks for explaining tips. I don't work in the waiter industry, but I have friends and family that criticize why I leave tips if the service isn't fabulous. I can imagine it's not easy.
friends of mine who have gone to america have told me about the whole tipping process and how huge it is and what a massive deal people make of it there but woah! i never realised how necessary and important tipping actually is. its so weird. if i ever go to america, i shall be tipping people quite well
We don't really tip in Australia (it's not expected anyway rather it's just seen as a bonus). I think it's because our meals are relatively expensive in comparison (I haven't been to USA but just guessing) and so the meal cost kind of factors in a 'tip' to pay for waiter wages. I think min. wage is ~$15/hr here. But I'll keep your video in mind if I ever go to the USA and eat at a restaurant. 5% for crappy service and 20% for good service. Thanks for the tip! ;)
I usually tip 15% and round up to the nearest dollar. But... I don't tip at all when the waiter is crappy. My standard for crappy is usually when they stick their fingers in my food and act like pricks. I've had to no-tip once or twice, the bastards deserved it for acting like idiots.
@Schubes17 But Schubes17, leaving no tips for waiters is a hobby of mine. On weekends, I enjoy searching for impoverished waiters and leaving them a tip of zero. It makes me happy inside. If you were my waiter, I would sneakily trip you so you drop my drinks, watch you clean it up and tip you zero.
Just joking, I would sell all my possessions and donate the proceeds to the Schubes17 Tip Fund for College/Alcohol.
I went to a restaurant today with my friend. Both of our meals were about 3 dollars... I couldn't remember if the tip should have been 10 or 15 percent... so I just added another 30 cents... I also convinced my friend to leave a tip also... she wasn't going to
I always hated leaving tips...mainly because my friends drag me to swanky places when they're cheapskates and I know how this all works and feel sorry SO I ALWAYS LEAVE THE WHOLE TIP...I'm broke enough as it is! xD
In Japan, Korea, and China tips don't exist. When tourists leave tip they'll chase after you to return "the money you forgot to take with you." So if you get an asian customer who hasn't learned how sucky it is to be a waiter outside of their home country/how tips work...SORRY!
@strengthofwill I know exactly what you mean, I was a waiter in Japan and made pretty good money. I never needed tip and it's culturally unacceptable in a lot of places to leave any at all...but when I moved to the States...FUCK FUCK FUCK WHERE THE FUCK'S ALL MY MONEY GOING?!
Tipping seems bizarre to me. In Australia we don't have a tipping system. I think the food is more expensive and that covers the wages of the waiters, chefs, etc.
This is the same in the library - If you get mad at a librarian and make a scene, or make a nasty comment to the board, or something like that, It effects us! basically, a bad ( true or not) reputation = fewer people who want to come = not meeting grant requirements = no grants to have programs or get new books or pay someone to do that thing you got mad about = no more programs = more unhappy people... horrible cycle...
I hate it when the closing manager makes you stay open for those people, it kills me a little bit each time. I once had a couple come in at 9:04 when we had closed at 9, and they stayed flirting with each other for an hour and a half. Worst shift of my life. I don't care how much they tip at that point, you're right on with spawn of the devil, love this vid
@Schubes17 People dont seem to realise that if they like you at the restaurant, you get better service next time you go there and no one spits in your food :O
well you sure got this right, only thing you could have done is at the end turn around and have "i,m a waiter abuse me" on the back of your shirt. have you thought about having this play along with part one on a loop that customers can watch while they,re waiting to be called for a seat. nice job but you should have said 20%, love rocky
i'm a host and i dont get tipped out at all. which sucks since we end up busting our asses a lot of the time. and i completely agree with the closing thing...the other day we had a party of 30 come up 10 minutes before we close. really people?!
when you said i love you i thought you were gonna do the "I love you i'm in love with you" thing from ironing my underwear if you don't know him check him out he's hysterical. Great video as usual!!
i hostess and i'm just going to say you do a much better impression of it than i do :) but where i work the waiters/waitress's get to decide how much they want so it's nice when they like me :)
one time when i went out to eat with my friend we both ran out of cash so we paid the tip in change haha but it was a good tip of $5 because we felt really bad for having to do that
This was great, and I never knew that about the tip stuff, meaning i never really thought about it. I get it though, I worked as a hostess...and we defiantly sound like that. ;]
this analogy isn't spot on. the only way this would work is if the waiter messed up the food, which the waiter does not do since that's the job of the cook.
@Schubes17 Well it is a stretch but the idea is there. If someone does not do their job correctly then they should not be paid period, but that is just my opinion.
as for the last comment on your video i totally understand when i go out to eat if i see a reasturant closes at 10 and its 9:30 i will go somewhere else and some people that leave tips for example i have a friend that is an amazing waiter and a couple left him a dollar in quarters for like a 45 dollar meal i was like what the hell some people just piss me off ok sorry for ranting on a comment
Another great video. I'm seriously re-considering wanting to become a part time waitress. Although...I still think this would be less awful to put up with than folding shirts all day at The Gap.
i work at a restaurant and through this whole video i was like "i know right?!?!" expecially about coming in at the last minute thing! aahh!

I hate it when the closing manager makes you stay open for those people, it kills me a little bit each time. I once had a couple come in at 9:04 when we had closed at 9, and they stayed flirting with each other for an hour and a half. Worst shift of my life. I don't care how much they tip at that point, you're right on with spawn of the devil, love this vid
cararook 11 months ago
@cararook totally agree. It's so late, the tip becomes irrelevant. You just want to leave. Those people usually tend to give crappy tips anyway haha
Schubes17 11 months ago
Could geico save you 15% or more on car insurance....
malakov5 11 months ago 8
I usualy leave a 30% tip, yeah i gots cash to throw around :P
Jessdmann 11 months ago
@Jessdmann haha nice. i'm proud.
Schubes17 11 months ago
@Schubes17 People dont seem to realise that if they like you at the restaurant, you get better service next time you go there and no one spits in your food :O

Ps, Take your shirt off next video.. You're so cute :3
sims2ep9 11 months ago
@sims2ep9 ehhh i think I'll keep it on... but I'm flattered haha
Schubes17 11 months ago
well you sure got this right, only thing you could have done is at the end turn around and have "i,m a waiter abuse me" on the back of your shirt. have you thought about having this play along with part one on a loop that customers can watch while they,re waiting to be called for a seat. nice job but you should have said 20%, love rocky
rocky315w 11 months ago
@rocky315w yeah, 20 is good, but I feel like 15% is manageable for everyone to leave
Schubes17 11 months ago
i'm a host and i dont get tipped out at all. which sucks since we end up busting our asses a lot of the time. and i completely agree with the closing thing...the other day we had a party of 30 come up 10 minutes before we close. really people?!

Overall, this was an excellent rant, entertaining and factual. I have no idea how you put up with getting lousy tips, but you're a good person.

i hostess and i'm just going to say you do a much better impression of it than i do :) but where i work the waiters/waitress's get to decide how much they want so it's nice when they like me :)

Schubes17 11 months ago
one time when i went out to eat with my friend we both ran out of cash so we paid the tip in change haha but it was a good tip of $5 because we felt really bad for having to do that
angelgirl195 11 months ago

Schubes17 11 months ago
So you're saying if a construction worker lays down a horrible foundation and causes your house to collapse you should still pay them?
WhatsTheDifferenceTV 11 months ago
this analogy isn't spot on. the only way this would work is if the waiter messed up the food, which the waiter does not do since that's the job of the cook.
Schubes17 11 months ago
@Schubes17 Well it is a stretch but the idea is there. If someone does not do their job correctly then they should not be paid period, but that is just my opinion.
WhatsTheDifferenceTV 11 months ago
Okay I will come in at 9 and eat all night REALLY REALLY REEEEEEEEEEEALLY slow and leave in the morning and not tip :P
Kidsownyou1 11 months ago
@Kidsownyou1 don't you dare... haha
Schubes17 11 months ago
as for the last comment on your video i totally understand when i go out to eat if i see a reasturant closes at 10 and its 9:30 i will go somewhere else and some people that leave tips for example i have a friend that is an amazing waiter and a couple left him a dollar in quarters for like a 45 dollar meal i was like what the hell some people just piss me off ok sorry for ranting on a comment
logan28205 11 months ago
@logan28205 no, this was a good rant comment. I've gotten one penny on an $88 dollar meal once. it happens.

Another great video. I'm seriously re-considering wanting to become a part time waitress. Although...I still think this would be less awful to put up with than folding shirts all day at The Gap.
natsishere 11 months ago
@natsishere Go for the part time waitress for sure. way more money than you'll make at the Gap.
Schubes17 11 months ago
