Oh my goodness, tipping! Yes please! I'm a busgirl and I get drinks, take drinks, check for people needing anything else (to avoid kitchen running for the waiter), take dishes, run the checks through, get dessert orders, whatever. All my waitstaff does is get food from the kitchen and take orders. I can work for 3 hours and barely get a dollar for all the work from my waitstaff. (My boss says it's supposed to be ten cents on the dollar but it never is.) Waiters, please be nice to your bussers!

Third of all, my mum used to work as at a hotel... so I know how it feels to not get any tips, when you're being paid minimum wage - you rely on tips.

And lastly I don't care if you believe me or not. Besides you don't know me at all.

BTW... Tip Pooling is Optional/ Voluntary, and only done by the employees. The employer cannot force you to "tip-pool" (IT IS ILLEGAL). If they did/ do, get lawyer and sue them to hell and back. And make sure you sue them for every penny they have. :)

First of all. 15% is not hard to figure out. Most states only pay 7-8% tax, so double the tax and thats around 15, but THATS not the problem with what you said. Newbie servers or decent servers should get 15%. An experienced and professional server should ALWAYS get 20% or over. It's not a hard concept and with all the busting ass we do so YOU can eat, it's the least you can do. Tips are not optional, don't tip me you can't come back to the resteraunt.

In my country, there's something called service charge (which is an automatic tip) so, total food + 5% service charge + 5% govt. tax...that's how people in my country have to pay in a restaurant...

eh well if I'm going out with my friends we generally overtip, if the bill is under 80 we'll just tip $10-$15 and leave it at that, if it's over then we calculate and add an extra dollar or two if we have money left XD

Thats illegal in the UK, they can't pay you that little. The Minimum wage is £5.89 an hour thats $9.49. You would have to get at least that an hour, period, no exceptions. Then tips on top of that, you should come to England and be a waiter :-)

My major is hospitality so I feel for the waiters and waitresses and usually leave a 20 - 25% tip, more if I like the waiter. I know that's going overboard, but I know how much they make, because I use to be a room server and made $2.89 an hour. Anyway, if I ever came to your state and saw you waiting, I would give you a nice tip. Okay, one thing. What was that at the end all about? I just burst out laughing.

They used to have the same system here (in England) too, but I think they changed the law a couple of years back so that waiters got full wages plus tips, which is the way it should be. A tip should be a bonus, it's "Yeah, you did okay, have some extra", not "Yeah, you did okay, here's some wages". Makes me angry when restaurants do that >.< [/rant]

We don't really tip in Australia (it's not expected anyway rather it's just seen as a bonus). I think it's because our meals are relatively expensive in comparison (I haven't been to USA but just guessing) and so the meal cost kind of factors in a 'tip' to pay for waiter wages. I think min. wage is ~$15/hr here. But I'll keep your video in mind if I ever go to the USA and eat at a restaurant. 5% for crappy service and 20% for good service. Thanks for the tip! ;)

@Schubes17 But Schubes17, leaving no tips for waiters is a hobby of mine. On weekends, I enjoy searching for impoverished waiters and leaving them a tip of zero. It makes me happy inside. If you were my waiter, I would sneakily trip you so you drop my drinks, watch you clean it up and tip you zero.

I always hated leaving tips...mainly because my friends drag me to swanky places when they're cheapskates and I know how this all works and feel sorry SO I ALWAYS LEAVE THE WHOLE TIP...I'm broke enough as it is! xD

In Japan, Korea, and China tips don't exist. When tourists leave tip they'll chase after you to return "the money you forgot to take with you." So if you get an asian customer who hasn't learned how sucky it is to be a waiter outside of their home country/how tips work...SORRY!

Tipping seems bizarre to me. In Australia we don't have a tipping system. I think the food is more expensive and that covers the wages of the waiters, chefs, etc.
