The skull reveal used to make my brother and I laugh so hard as kids (we were around 7 and 5 when we first saw this film) that we'd rewind it over and over.
Something that allways impress me, is how a movie with gory and violent scenes had time to also make laugh so hard. Well, at least when I was a kid I considered this very violent.
I like the 6 million dollar man, back when 6 million bought you something..I think he said 90 million...a lot more buck for crap and a bang at the end....Jesus that inflation for you.
@Aussieisbest94: yes, because CGI was still in its infancy and GODDAMN expensive. In fact, even in Jurassic Park, the dinosaurs were filmed first in stop motion before being transferred to a computer. Anyways, CGI is not much more different than Stop motion nowadays, as they look even more cartoonish, which kind of defeats their purpose of realism.
@Kj16V I remember being in the theatre with my parents, the preview looked good and didn't show this kind of stuff, seeing the original at that age! I remember seeing poor Murphy BLASTED apart and then seeing him on the operating table. However----this scene freaks me out at 33!
@Kj16V The 2nd robot(pulls helmet off) kind of freaked me out too, and I was older. It only realized the 2nd viewing why the prototypes failed. The human hosts realized they were abominations, freaked out & killed themselves. And that's why the lead scientist wanted the drug addict bad guy in the prototype suit. Because he'd pull off, provided you give him nuke in his receptacle. Good writing.
Dude, the skull was creepy as hell. I think what really killed the 2nd movie was just how unrelentingly dark it was - particularly with the killer kid. It's just not what people want in what they THINK is going to be a fluffy summer action pic. I actually liked it as a film, and if they had had a better 3rd movie, could have been a great, albeit minor, film trilogy.
the first one clearly wasn`t going to work, you are under arrest it said, but who was it saying it too, and under arrest for breaking what law, also robo has directives to control his behaviour, why didn`t these two have directives espically after the first failure, like directive 5 i shall not kill myself.
@deathmetal931 I wouldn't say "boring". "Poorly executed" would be a better description. Think about it: The core story was good, and, if you followed the previous movies, inevitable. I actually liked the idea of the jetpack, but they should have saved it for the last 5-10 minutes of the movie.
@gokuandmario4ever Like I said to someone else here, I didn't think it was bad per-se. I just thought that "poorly executed" would be a better description than just simply "bad".
I think the difference here is that these officers are aware of what they've become. After thinking that they've died they suddenly appear alive in a robot body. How would you react? I think the shock is too huge for them.
After all they deleted Murphy's memories to some extent that he ceased to be self-aware. Until later, that is. That's why he succeeded as a case.
I find both of these creepy actually, and not that funny.
@TheMartianOddity They shoot the others and themselves cause there men that just found out that they don't have a robocock and that they will never have sex again.
@TheMartianOddity you moron that was NEVER the point of the failed robocop 2 clones
the creator was OBVIOUSLY trying to say, "you cannot mimmick or CLONE the human spirit"
because all those robots were AI driven robots i.e 100% machine, hence why murphy succeeded because they couldn't extinguish his human side fully and this is also why the female villian murdered a human to make robocop II, the problem was he was a crazed criminal hence the huge disaster at the end
Why didn't they just find cops and soldiers with cancer or other terminal illnesses and offer them a chance to live again as Robocop 2? Hell, amputees from the military are already being deployed with bionic limb replacements ATM.
@TheMartianOddity You are right, it IS creepy. Cain succeeded because, well, he was a madman drug addict. Perfect for putting in a heavily-armed robot suit. No Frankenstein-like complex. So the movie had its moments.
No matter how many time I watch this part, I LMFAO. That second one was scary man! I'd surrender if a mechanical cop walked up and tore his face off screaming!
You know you have Epically failed when the Old Man Facepalms.
This scene always made me LOL, since I was a child the part I LOL'D really hard is the last robot taking out his helmet, and doing: AHHHH, plus the facepalm of the guy who waste U$90Billion in those two fails, makes this scene memorable. :P
It's also funny that the poor scientist who got shot in the arm is forced to stand there as the second prototype comes out. His arm is still in a sling from the first one.
the only stupid thing, is that they let the androids loaded with bullets , and it very stupid, only idiots would do this, but considering that they wanted to make some fun out of the scene, I'll just forget what I just wrote ...!
What gets me is how cooperative the new ones are, right up until they go berserk. They stand behind the door, all polite like and not trying to hurt anyone, mosey in and then... re-kill themselves.
@Wattapus I don't know why, but I always found the first one to be creepier than the skull. I could never tell if it was the real officers head, or his head superimposed into a weird sort of hologram, or maybe screen. Either way, it's grim
@DancingJesus94 That prototype would need a partner to pick him up off the floor everytime he did that. Plus said partner would need a mop to clean up the floor after anyone they arrested wet themselves after they see his face.
