  • It very much seems to me that anime reviewing was always crap due to a mixture of cynicism, groupthink and outright stupidity.

  • Declining in Quality.

You can view it from two directions.

Declining in quality or raised expectations after prolonged activity on youtube.

I feel the same thing with The Video game reviewing.

Example the first time I saw AVGN I found him awesome.

Now I find him rather stale and his older material was better.

But one guy pointed out that it might be me who is changing but the WOW factor of my first impression years ago is still engraved in memory so it looks like his older stuff was better.

  • awsome vid m8 ,

you have a lot off good points

  • @walking00dead Thank you sir.

  • ah no worries m8 .

would be kool to see the gungrave review

  • i think there are tons off new anime reviewers out there like myself building a fan base and getting there voice out there but you have gotta take eyes off giguk and the likes off bionic slime ect ect so its not easy i mean lavabuster has 300 odd subs and his stuff is awsome and he is still kinda under the radar

  • @walking00dead Well the video was not talking about giguk or bionic Slime. They are not bad, I was talking about one Jaded Otaku Media.....none the less, lava Buster is extremely talented, and I agree with you on that. He deserves more subs and I intend to help him with that. As for you I have not seen your work. I will make sure to check it out.

  • true u where he sounds like a tosser wont be watching or his stuff

lava buster should deffo have more subs

haha ah iv only been doing it for 4 months so i just wana have fun talking about anime and be a bit creative with what i do i still need to improve stuff .hopefully you dont find them two bad m8 haha

  • And I would love to see some anime reviews from you if you ever have time to do them. After all, that was the reason I came to your channel when I was SonicDaxter89. I mean, I enjoyed your other videos of course. But since I was really getting into animes, I subscribed to your channel mostly for that reason. So, I think it would great for you to get back into anime reviewing because I miss that from you.

  • @GeekCritic89 Your in luck, my next vid will be my anime review of Gungrave, and than I have a review after that of the first two season of DS9(not anime) but yeah I should be doing some more anime. I am thinking next one I will be watching is Baccano, and plan on doing one for Space Adventure Cobra.

  • I never did realize that anime reviewing is dying on youtube. I mean, there are still some older anime reviewers that are still doing it like Hardy. And there some guys that has done for less then 2 years like LavaBuster. I've been doing this v-log anime reviews for almost 4 years now and I've gotten a little more professional with those v-log reviews over the last years.

  • @GeekCritic89 But lately, a lot of these reviewers I see are guys like me where they do v-log anime reviews and the ones that use footage in their reviews are not getting a lot of attention. Or maybe they just move out of youtube because they hate the misunderstandings that Youtube has when they suspend someone of copyright infrigment and decide to do their videos somewhere else like Blip. So, I'm kinda in between that in some ways it's both dying and declining in quality.

  • @GeekCritic89 Though I can't say which one I would go more so over the other. That's how I think my old friend.

  • "Reviews can be very entertaining and can make you think."

Thank you! Thats what I mean whenever I talk or come across with an "anime fan." Especially those fan girls who hates watching reviewer videos (the well, fun, and not-so arrogant ones). They get annoyed listening to what the reviewer has to say, not because they are not elitists, but because they don't like listening to the flaws or the real faults within an anime. Atleast from my highschool, some don't get it.

  • Magus, what's your overall feelings on Blood +?

  • Give City Hunter a try, classic stuff. Second series is the best of the lot, really recommend it.

  • just give up magus there no point put up rant you only hope is to fight

  • @ghostsuckgame LOL, It seems you speak engrish not english son! Come back and talk after a few english classes.

  • @MagusX1 if you don't like it don't post up shitty videos beaners

  • this other rant not won't help support anime in shape least green lantern fanboys protest demand hal gordon comeback as main green lantern i'm Respect them than anime fans

  • I totally agree with you on anime reviewing being an art form. The reviewer expresses his or her personality in the review and the way the review is constructed can be considered art too. I also agree that anime reviewing is not dying, it's just harder to find good quality reviews on youtube anymore. People quit reviewing for their own reasons, and it's sad to see the good reviewers leave. New reviewers can take their places.

Oh, I would love to see you do a review again :D

  • Although I havent seen much of your work I highly apperated your videos because you give alot of great points and about points even your rants are awesome to watch. About anime reviewing as I said before it's been nothing but naruto one piece and bleach or a recent anime that came out this year. but I hope I get to see some new stuff soon

  • Awesome vid and I have to agree with ya that these newbie anime reviewers are not that good at all or even yet orginal (no disrespect Yokarama). and what I mean by orginal reviewers just talk and review chapters of naruto, one piece, and bleach. Also when you said about old anime reviewers like Jmo (or haijime no jmo) are friendly, repectful, and give details to an anime before reviewing it. and anime overreviewer I recomend his work for his gundam and macross reviews continued next comment

  • I plan on doing a response to Mr. Anime's vid as well. It's good to hear from you again. I'm planning on doing some non-anime reviews like Batman: Under the Red Hood, and Hulk vs.

  • @TheAnimeOverviewer - Looking forward to watching that soon then. Those are one of the great animated DC/Marvel movies.

  • gigguk is a pretty funny anime reviewer

  • You're not ugly, you look like a badass. And I would agree with this video 100% even though I don't watch anime reviews as much, I believe everything you say and I think the way anime reviews have been changing in the quality sense is because (I think in my opinion) is because of the other and new fandoms that have been created ESPECIALLY in 2011. A LOT of shit happened in 2011, and about the elitism, yes it's gotten worse to this day.

  • Pretty late to say, but this was a good response. It's okay to disagree with me with reviewing being an art, but if that should be the case for a reviewer I wanna see a balance between entertaining and being informative at the same time, like RedLetterMedia's reviews.

  • So how do you feel about Elfen Lied now?

  • What do you think of Fanservice Overkill?

I'm talking about Nosebleeds in the place of Boners and too many PANTSU Shots.

I don't mind PANTS Shots, just as long as they don't do them just to be pervs.

I think the best implementation of that was in K-ON where Mio tripped and they did that with class, instead of seeing the underwear, you saw a striped rice bowl.

I liked Baka to Test, but Season 2 really perved it out. (especially when they still tried to peep after they found the blackmailer)

  • You ever thought of reviewing Dragon Ball Z or Yu Yu Hakusho, Magus?

  • @PeteTehBeastDX He already did that long time ago.

  • One of the biggest problems I have is how negative the anime review community is. I rarely see anyone actually talk about something they like. Most of the time people write reviews just to bash on something, sometimes there are entire channels dedicated to it, like jadedotakumedia.

  • @Multifire Yep, and that is one of the channels I was referring to as being assholish. The people that MR Anime mentioned were real anime reviewers that talked about what they liked and they did not like. I think the problem too is that not only are some of these new reviewers are negative and arrogant, they donot have the personality to do reviews either.

  • I wouldn't say it's a lost art, it's just hard to find a good reviewer since there are so many. I don't really know any arrogant reviewers accept for a couple but I am sure some of the big three tards or the haters of the big three are. but if you'revideos aren't like that then you'll have a hard time getting views. Please check out my channel and please give me feedback. I do anime and video game reviews

  • @Animega888 I will check out your channel. I think the key thing to remember here is that, to me the community declined. Sure there are more, but quantity does not mean quality, and many of these new ones, just act like prima donnas. Sadly, I think the people Mr anime mentioned were the pinaccle of the community,(With the exception of Jiisan), but those guys really made the anime review community what it was.

  • Good video, good to hear from ya again.

  • @LensCapProductions No Problem glad to see your still around and what not. My thing is not dying again, its just I donot think the alot of the new reviewers are good as you guys were. They have egos, thats my problem.

  • @MagusX1 Mhmm, its good to see ya again magus, i like hearing your perspective on things, damn its been a long time.

  • AnimeCynic was a great reviewer, it's a shame he vanished

Keep up the good work Magus

  • magus reviews = EPIC

  • Wait, Anime is dying??? That's not even possible. If any art form is dying is American cartoons. Pretty much close to 90% of US Cartoons are being drown by Japan now. Exosquad and Batman: The Animated Series and the rest of the DC comic Animated shows (leading up toJustice League Unlimited) was the last of the American Anime.

  • @thisithis This was not about anime dying, it was about the anime review community. Anime is alive and well.

  • Good video man. I've actually started doing my own anime reviews in a separate channel I made. However I still think of myself as more of a gamer, so I don't interact with the anime community much, so I don't have much of an opinion of the community.

Btw, Gungrave IS THE SHIT, watch it! One more thing, I like doing alot of co op anime reviews, I wouldn't mind doing one with you if you have the time.

  • @Shintai123 Oh Yeah, you do review anime huh Oscar? Your good at it, which is cool...but yeah the community the anime community in general is not what it used to be. It just went downhill.

  • @MagusX1 Thanks I appreciate that. I never really watched any anime reviews before on youtube, so I am not really familiar with any of the older reviewers, except for animeoverviewer. I've interacted with him a few times. We disagree alot, but he seems like a good guy.

  • Hey MagusX1 this is AshED65 I review anime as well. I am one of the newer anime reviewers if you have time I would like to know what you think of my anime reviews if you like if you did not what I need to work on.

  • @AshED65 Cool I will check out your channel. Donot worry, when I was talking about the anime reviewers with attitude, I was not referring to you as I have not seen your channel. So i will check out your reviews later on today......Looking forward to it.

  • I know some people that do anime reviews and their Youtube partners there's Bobsamurai , Forneverworld , and Yokoramagametalk ect. I don't think it's dead it really depends on what you're reviewing , how make videos ,and how present yourself to people. It's really up to the person how they make their videos. So it's not dead it's just shifted to a new direction.

  • I think you should review some more anime, I would be excited if you do so.

  • The new generation of Youtubers tend to be prima donnas. I think that's a natural consequence of Youtube becoming this corporate fame based site. Still it's not as bad as it was in late 2009-early 2010.

  • hey magus. thanks for the shout out. i'll address my feelings on these issues asap. but feel free to review what you like. i'm semi back to reviewing, but now trying sentai

  • @HajimeNoJMo no Problem my old friend it is good to hear from you.

  • What about Guys like JadedOtaku

  • That's how I feel. Don't think the anime reviews are fading, It just needs better quality and it takes time to do a really good review, whether you think it's good or bad and some people just have different styles of reviews.

    - Willyboy

  • I wish you the best magus. My d ays of making videos are over.

  • 2:20: I think you were talking about either Marzgurl or JesuOtaku.

  • @EziekielNightwind It was JesuOtaku he was thinking of.

  • Blood + was awesome I'd like to see you review on that one

  • You still exist?!?!?! Wooo!!!!! :)

  • darkscream is alive?

  • @SamuelTehGTA Yup, his popularity just went down...unfortunately.
