  • You have the type of engineering needed correct have you seen the you tube video

    iwalk ona robotic foot

  • well this is interesting. but why dont they just grow a new foot? like the starfish do.

  • @immeohmyoh Most mammals, after an amputation, grow a "sheath" over the end of the nerve, preventing the affected part from gowing back. Scientist have been studying animals such as the starfish and salamander, who are able to regrow limbs, and trying to discover some sort of therapy that would allow us to do the same.

  • An artificial cerebellum would be nice for me.

  • Apparently, no one who watches YouTube has ever seen the radical new designs in prosthetics for leg & foot amputees, which is made of state of the art materials, one part, hence, no gears, clutches, what have you, & still can outperform the functions of the normal leg or foot, & oh, it's just one part.

No real need for this overly complicate device, they already invented the wheel, laughs

  • absolute junk,,a wooden stick with a rubber door stopper would work much better.and lighter, cheaper, non profiteering,,[energy stored] crap on.

  • omg thats so op, im going to cut my feet off so i can have some of those installed

  • @lwanatt watch the video again, this is attached to a normal foot. No amputation necessary.

  • Yehhhh Great work people :P

  • ah current prosthetic require double the energy,

her accent hinders understanding, and need to be listened to several times to get it all, at lest for me

  • "Can require double the energy of a real ankle"

    lmfao

  • guys the other shoe is one with pants and the shoe cover on

  • This could make life easier for someone :)

  • lol wtf is with the other foot

  • I love the Gene Simmons moon shoe in the background!

  • @appstatefanRS it loves you too

  • I lol'd at the other shoe xP

  • but can it smell like a foot?

Theres nothing quite like taking off a shoe and smelling the aroma of the human foot..

  • lololol

  • @maxnein What do you do when you don't HAVE a foot? The video never mentioned that it is for the replacement of a real working foot. It is meant for amputees.

  • You're gonna need some big-ass shoes if you wanna use that shit,

  • Awesome foot! Makes me want to brake my leg. :D

  • 5* for science and technology!!! :D

  • Como el de portal ;D

  • I think this is brilliant, but wouldn't you be kind of screwed if you're an amputee and your foot runs out of batteries?

  • Cool..

  • I am well aware that they currently have artificial feet made of high impact, low weight carbon fiber, which seems to work pretty good considering many long distance & Sprint track runners who are amputees use them on a regular basis with great success I might add.

If you ever seen one, you would know that the artificial carbon foot design stores energy upon impact, which it then releases when said foot leaves the ground, while the design itself it simplistic in nature, one piece.

  • get real...this invention is too old..i already have 2 of em...this is jst incomplete copy of tht thing....

  • They already have a artificial foot out that does the same thing as this, but is much less complicated, as the foot I speak of is actually only one piece.

Some people fail to realize that the more complicated you make anything, the higher it drives the costs, & the more thing can go wrong with it so use the KISS rule when able.

KISS = Keep It Simple Stupid

  • you seem to have stopped listening halfway through the video. The current foot requires twice the energy as a normal ankle, this doesn't. Thank god no one thinks like you because if they did we wouldn't have computers, internet, mp3 players, anything because they would be "too expensive and too complicated for my little mind to process". What YOU fail to realize is that this initial technology is expensive, but in 20 years it will be cheaper and simpler.

  • The foot seen in this video is overly complicated when compared to the one I speak of comprised of carbon fibers, & anyone with a lick on knowhow in engineering knows, the more complicated something is, the more things that can & will go wrong with it.

What you FAIL to realize is they already have a great artifical foot on the market, which is much lightr, much simpler, & no doubt, much cheaper then this Inspecter Gadget device.

    Consider yourself schooled, lol

  • As a matter of fact, 60 Minutes did a interview with the people who invented the carbon foot, as well as featuring footage in several track runners who use them.

Yeah, let's re-invent the wheel, & make it as complicated as humanly possible so only a few can make use of it. It's people like you who have no doubt kept mankind from returning to the moon.

  • @sphinxrising58 bicycles are more simple than cars.

    yet everyone drives cars

  • whoa! good for the footless... But even better for those with feet! Talk about Moon-Shoes!

  • @Baxxter101 Actually... its better for the footless.......so they can walk. Retard.

  • ....

  • next step ----> fats in flying chairs (like Wall-E)

  • lol

    "next step"!

  • we wont stay in that stage long we will quickly go down to brain hooked up to simulated reality, whats the point in wasting all this food on a body in a reality which you DONT have admin access to.

  • This could also be adapted to make people run FAST...!

  • i bet your joints won't make it further than lets say 20mph or so

  • this was my first thought, your smart like me! lol

  • Вот до чего техника ДОШЛА :)

  • I eto e6e ne predel )

  • I thought it would be for some kind of sprinters :D

  • Не кстати, а клёвый тапок, если доработать то прыгучесть у людей можно будет развить до нереальных высот.

  • But why?

  • Prosthetics for people without feet. Duh.

  • @islaminmyarse

Why are you even telling us this on NewScientist.

Oh, and please change your background, it's just plain disgusting kid.

  • Hi this is a fake foot it has a spring a lock and a release kthxbai

  • I love that we're finally working on upgrading the prosthetics we have. You know the last generation has pretty much remained unchanged since the Civil War?

  • Comment removed

  • the enthusiasm in this bitch's voice..

  • our bodies are so amasing!

  • ROBO FOOT

  • i will lay my penis upon it

  • short video is short

  • i ll give them some spearmint gum just to let me smash one infront of their faces

  • ggggooodd

  • fuck the ppl with disabilities. i need these, then i don't even have to use energy to walk

  • fullmetal alchemist?

  • fuck i hate the narrators voice.

  • Awesome! I want two of those, please! Two really fast and strong ones, so I can run and jump like when I was a kid! : )

  • You need a prosthetic brain too...XD

  • high tech high heels lol, just joking it is really cool though

  • why de fuc hast anyone made some sort of shoe that will let u jump one story high!?

  • @shadowace421

Becuase of all the frivolous lawsuits.

  • lol

  • @shadowace421 They have, look up Poweriser.

  • who hasnt heard of that, anyways it only gets you halfway there. I want to be able to run up to gas station and jump ontop on the roof thats what im talking about! (no im not planing to rob a gas station)

  • bullshit you aren't

  • @Craydon powerisers are poorly designed ineffitcant energy sapping crap ,thats why you dont see anyone using them for more than 30 seconds

  • Because, you can't afford it.

  • Ok,, now I can saw my flat feet off.

  • yea no.

  • You can't stop my dreams!

  • i guess its not a replacement, its like a shoe , so if you already cut your leg off.................

  • If you look at the way it works it doesn't require a foot. I think I'll wait for version 2 but this doesn't seem like a bad idea.

  • i did made a similar shoe like this but not electron

  • I think within 10 years time the fastest 100m time will be held by an amputee

  • This is really clever.

  • i saw this in portal

  • same

  • Rofl.

  • very cool

  • Awesome technology , but I'm not sure if medical insurance would cover this . And this looks like it could be really pricy

  • though I'd rather not start a political discussion, in a world where all medical insurance is socialized you wouldn't ask yourself that

  • @TheRedPillNews its about 60buck's(to make one.the materials are cheap so is the programing) for 1 foot each.but as we all know.there will come loads of bulls shit cost's above it.

  • looks really well done

  • It's getting more like a real foot!

  • its just the accent, she is probably ecstatic about it really

  • i want a narrator who sounds like they're actually interested in what they are talking about...some enthusiasm would be nice

  • o wow :O

Now i can replace this fuck up foot :D

  • lol

  • I love this narrator. She's part of this channel and she's unique & distinctive and that's why I like her. Don't change her for these stupid dumbass clowns! They can fucking unsubscribe if they don't like hearing her voice. They're just no-class assholes to fucking bitch about the narrator's voice every fucking time they watch a video here. It's like they simply come here not for the video, but to bitch about the narrator's voice. Fucking children in the playground, that's all they fucking are!

  • @JixMa Right! God!

  • @JixMa

    Well said. I agree 100%.

  • no one could have put it better

  • yeah well im sure out of childrens playground for at least 10 years, and i love the videos but the narrator sucks. it would even be better if there would be text under video like in diagonaluk

  • Ceilings will have to be higher.

  • @vekalist I KNOW!!!! i dont wana sound like an ass but at least make her blow her nose or something!!!

  • Yep, they narrators don't sound at all interested in what they're doing. There should be some passion in their voice. It shouldn't be just reading from a paper.

  • yep you all get my point

  • This actually looks smart and efficient. Thats a nice change....

  • nice

  • Kangaroo power.

  • Thumbs up your mum!

  • cool

  • Could they adapt it to charge my phone? I have 2 feet but would still wear these if they had a use. It would also make them cheaper if they were producing more.

  • @lemonlees hahah

  • @lemonlees it can enable you to walk to the nearest power outlet so you can plug your phone in.

  • i am gonna cut of my feet so i can get 2 of those

  • Thanks just stupid....

  • horible. now?! why wouldn't you do it better? why?

    back to the drawing board.

  • sex monggoL

  • This is great for the humanoid robotic industry!

  • Id get it !

  • you also get to wear 10 inch souls under your shoes. very hip!

    :/

  • @lygophile Nah, that's just so that a human who doesn't need to wear a prosthetic foot can test the device.

  • If you're an amputee you wouldn't have a foot, so this would be in your shoe, not under it.

  • hmm, oyeah, you're right. the device would fit in a shoe.

  • Amazing. This will prove to be a huge upgrade for people with prosthetics.

  • we are one step closer to becoming cyborgs. *sniff* this is inspiring my to work in the feild of technology! :)

  • @ClearMetalVoltar one STEP closer, ha.. you didnt even notice that when you wrote it did you

  • @ClearMetalVoltar stop sniffing me damnit

  • Will humanity one day be able to evolve as easily as it can think of an evolution? From thought to reality faster and faster as we progress.

  • @whatevtube in my opinion i think that the next step in evolution for humanity is an increase in brain capacity

  • @rioishikawa ya i agree with you

  • You naive fool! who needs increased brain capacity when you can have tentacle like penises!!!!

  • @Nades129 obviously not you? o.o

  • I don't need it! Penises makes the world go round mr quadstrike.

  • well u obviously don't have it if you believe that... meaning the brain if your having trouble keeping up, of course your just typing this stuff to troll anyways so it doesn't matter

  • evolution doesn't quite work like that, unless you're referring to "as a society" rather than in the sense of biology such vast changes for such a vast population would require a lot of technological advancement and change in general attitudes in ethics

  • @whatevtube

Evolution by natural selection doesnt work that way.

Evolving means changes to inherit traits are passed down from generation to generation.

Augmenting the body with technology is something different; its the technology that evolves, not humanity.

  • What I meant is that perhaps through powerful use of our minds and our technology, we can ourselves determine useful adaptations and implement them with increasing rapidity.

Will nature eventually take a backseat and watch as we evolve ourselves?

I do not necessarily mean biological evolution, or by natural selection, but instead we could determine traits and select for them ourselves.

These traits may or may not be passed down between generations, but the speed of our adaptation increases.

  • you must of read the book "the singularity is near" :)

  • @whatevtube

Here is the thing, if its not passed down from generation to generation the trait wont survive and we dont evolve.

Natural selection is what drives evolution, and is a fundamental property of nature.

  • I agree with what you have said and I appreciate your knowledge on how evolution works.

However, there are many forms of evolution aside from natural selection.

I am speaking of a time when our minds and technology are so fast, and so powerful as to exceed the limits of time and space. Where our ability to conceive of ideas becomes more powerful than the selection of nature, and at will, we are able to choose and pass down traits that have been deemed necessary or useful.

  • @whatevtube

I agree that technology can evolve.

However, augmenting ourselves with technology will not evolve humans.

We are already able to choose certain traits for our children with the help of technology.

Evolution by natural selection is not something that can be bypassed, or "overpowered". It is the mechanism of adapting to your environment.

Its like trying to "overpower" relativity.

  • Evolution by natural selection can absolutely be bypassed. Look at bananas, or the samurai crabs famously described by Carl Sagan.

Each of these examples are of human selection. Where humans have altered the natural path of selection amongst the organisms.

In my vision, I speak of a time where human intellect, along with its' technological advancement, are able to similarly choose for traits without waiting to fuel evolution (time + death.)

    Instead (idea + implementation.)

  • In this way, we would have huge power over our own evolution. However, evolution itself is not overpowered because the concept is intact. We would still be choosing adaptations to best suit our situation/environment.

Already there are computer simulations which can self-evolve to find the best solution to a problem. If this ability could be incorporated into our minds, then, theoretically, we could imagine adaptations. All it would take to make it reality is implementation.

  • @whatevtube

To be honest, im not convinced you know what evolution by natural selection is.

We can definitely use evolution to our advantage, no doubt there. We have been breeding animals like dogs and cows for specific traits for a long, long time.

However, we accomplish this by iterating evolution by natural selection over a period of time. Not bypassing it.

  • This sort of 'virtual' evolution is what I am speaking of. The ability to go through 'generations' of ideas or adaptations faster than the normal time + death of natural selection. Time + death will still be involved but on a virtual basis. Therefore, the speed of adaptation will increase exponentially.

As others have said, apparently, this idea has already been conceived.

  • hmm makes wonder why do we humans have such a smart brain, it is more than we need to survive. :)

  • That is part of my message. Our brain is powerful but we do need more than it to survive. We cannot detect harmful radiation, and we can only see a small strip of the EM spectrum.

With advancements in technology, we can create devices that are actually, in essence, evolutionary adaptations. Whether they are implanted or external it does not matter. I could argue that the internet is an evolutionary adaptation.

  • actually we've got the ozone layer to protect us from harmful radiation, i still cant see why we all have such a smart brain, the nature has taken care of everything for us, food, shelter, everything

  • The magnetosphere and atmosphere protect us, but we still cannot detect harmful sources of radiation, or average radiation per square inch. This comes into effect with pollution. Also, we cannot determine, with a glance, the purity of water.

These are examples where perhaps over countless generations nature might bestow upon us an adaptation. Or, instead, we can determine the need for such an adaptation, and use our technology to help us achieve it.

  • but the animals are doing great without a brain like ours

  • this cracked me up a bit... (JUST A BIT)!

  • if nature is completely on your side, then how about you go out into the middle of a sumatran jungle without any of your belongings completely outside of society for like 5 years.

  • lol you got a point:D

  • ''mayadyhaksena prakrti, sunyate sa caracaram:''

Now here I am, under my direction, the material nature is working.

    -Bhagavad Gita as it is.

  • @thisisnotanick if practically everyone is using this technology, and it gives them an advantage.

Then those who do NOT use the technology will be at a disadvantage and will be selected against.

Those too stupid to be able to use it, will die out.

  • hmm.. these will be awesome in my power armor.. I will run faster than anyone.

  • inb4 cyborgs indeed

  • a new fetish will be at hand

  • @simple11q

    You read it here first!

  • or foot!

  • is there an artificial dick? mine is too small

  • @Xlay16 Lmao

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • lol

  • inb4 cyborgs

  • nice

  • Amazing :D

  • ah... the voice.. this singsang in the end of some words... AARGH!

Good video... but this voice is so annoying.-.

  • Agreed.

  • Any more advancements in this sector and I'll even consider having my legs removed :p
