  • How old is this?

  • They Oilcompanies did it

    and why?

To sale more Oil,Buy a usles Big Hummer and go shopping in Town

  • they are the same that run HOLLYWOOD... the same group of vampires..... kill them all and the world will be free.

  • THIS IS WHAT IT WAS: If you think we have a energy crisis now, think about how bad it would be with every person using a electric car.l

  • @Rougeish1 Well, actually, powering electric cars is cheaper than powering gas cars, EVEN IF you use oil to generate that electricity, in which case you'd be using about a third of the oil that is needed now. Also, it is easier to produce electricity without external resources, that is, using other sources like coal, hydro or nuclear, you could stop depending on foreign oil. Ergo, it would have helped reduce the energy crisis.

  • Simple. Money.

  • why would you dislike progress for the good of humanity and the earth

  • @FAMEROB People who think global warming is a hoax and people who just don't like Danny DeVito.

  • Is he talking about GM's electric car that they killed off?

  • WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR?

  • GM WAS FORCED BY THE PRESIDENT GEORGE BUSH JR AND THE BIG BOYS.

    IT WASN'T GM.

  • i love dann'ys very famous voice

  • I love, love, love this man.

  • After watching the documentary and seeing the horrible commercials GM made for the EV1, it is clear that they weren't interested in selling the car.

However, I don't think CARB should have mandated a certain number of electric cars be built. If people have an incentive to change their behavior, they will. I don't think government force should be that incentive.

  • @MooseOfReason what california could have done is allow people to write off the full 100% cost of an electric car on their state tax to attract buyers rather than the measely 3000 the feds would let you write off compared to the 100,000 for an h1 hummer. and a profit tax brake for the makers if they sold them rather than lease only

  • @bd189 Then the government would be basically buying cars for rich people.

  • Oh my.. I don't think we will ever know why they killed the electric car. It's just one of those unsolved mysteries.

  • Oh my Goodness... I don't think we will ever find out.

  • Come on Is This guy saying Why? As if it's really a Question. Are people really this dumb. It's like asking why did that lioness kill that zebra to feed her young? Why would she do such a thing. Wow! some of the things they post on this site are Crazy, stupid.

  • I did! LOL

  • GM is still lying about the EV1, Lutz is still claiming GM can't produce an EV now. Moreover, GM is still suppressing volunteer-engineers who restored a museum EV1 to working order, thanks to Jeff Thomas and EVBones.

  • how to watch the complite film ?

  • you can find complete movie "who killed the electric car" on video . google . com

  • that's phil from hercules!!! XD

  • Hes orange?

  • By the way, quit blaming each other for the things the greedy, rich, elitists do.

The whole world system is corrupted and slanted in their favor already, so dont make it any easier for them to take advantage of you by ignoring them and blaming each other.

Nationalism, racism and all the other things that segregate society are just distractions that create dissent and animosity amongst people who should be united against the corruption that affects us all, no matter what country youre from.

  • @parasite057 I agree! Check out this channel: /user/pistonturbine

  • The electric car was only developed because California had a mandate requiring auto makers to sell zero emission vehicles in Ca.. Eventually Ca was pressured to drop the mandate. So automakers dropped their EV programs.

Not so much a conspiracy, just that old and retarded corporate motto "Why change what is already working". And all the social and technological stagnation that comes with it.

  • I just saw the movie "Who killed the elecrtic car ?" What's wrong with USA??are you nuts??do you need more lung disease, more false terrorist attack to go on oil-war or more bankrupt automobile industries?what's wrong with you guys?that nation use to be the greatest and now you look like russia 25 years ago!!!Wake-up !!everybodys laughing at you! even India will sell electric car before USA !Even here(Canada) we plan to trade more with China and India for the next decade.you're in deep shit!

  • You keep crowing that you watched a idiologically slanted movie and now you are ready to translate that into hatred for the USA. Go ahead, fool--you are hurting yourself and your second-rate country.

At least learn something about cars and transportation before you run off at the mouth.

Hatred looks ugly on all who are committed to it, but especially you, bonehead.

  • second rate country ,bonehead ,fool!iAnd l'm the hater?your love for what was a great car cie. blinded you my friend! i dont hate, idont send missiles all over the world for oil,i dont broke south america just to make sure they're not making money more than my corrupt country,i did'nt support KKK, i dont think Patriot act is another way of freedom, i dont think terrorist while cross my border because i mess-up in middle east ,l dont think Gore is a total idiot, i just wish the best for you guys

  • i am american and i never launched missiles on anyone. i dont know why you think americans do that, but im offended by that statement. KKK? ya, all americans support the KKK dude, even african-americans.

  • sorry pal i was responding to jmshaw357, and no i dont think all american are like i think jmshaw357 is.i travel through USA and every time i had a great time, but like everywere in the world there is some moron like jmshaw357,and beside oil there is auto parts wish is a big market in USA and Canada, what's a car without parts that doesnt broke, well its a non-seller for are billionaire around north america!! sorry if i offend you ,wasnt my intention and sorry for my bad english;l'm french-canadian

  • Devito is 4,10"--a very short stature but he's anything but short in intellect.

  • He is a talented guy in the movie business, but he is surely a moron when it comes to any issues in the real world. He thinks he can pose stupid questions on YT and it will somehow solve real-world problems.

Movie-making mentality is doomed to failure when you calculate the bottom line. DeVito has no interest in the bottom line--look at some of his more forgettable movies.

  • those turbine cars would almost melt the pavement . the clevland museim has one ,and the st. louis muesiem has the other and it,s up and running ( thanks Air force). as i recall one of the 50 drivers didn't want to give his back Dont forget Big red GM chryslers turbine truck s don't leave out Tom Ogle's what's holding up steve fabro and his fine company

  • To build a hydrogen fuel station costs $75,000 for each car it services; if you put solar on the roof of EV drivers you don't NEED even one fuel station!

  • I heard Chevron-Texico's patent rights to Nickle Metal Hydride Batteries ends in 2012. I wonder if there is a time frame for GM's patent on EV1 to expire? I think All the Members of Plug In America should team with AC Propulsion and AeroViroment, BUY the Patent Rights, Restart the EV1 Program, Give Danny Devito, Chris Paine, Alexandra Paul, Peter Horton, and everybody else that lost or wanted one, a Shiny New EV1 Electric Car!

  • along with giving them a EV1 also check all the owners over for a brain tumor, because you have to have one, if you think the EV1 is more than a over sized golf cart, restart EV1? isn't the GM Volt good enough for you greenies?

  • Hooray for Danny! Now I'm a Devito fan!!

  • The fact that YOU don't like it doesn't mean that you can take it away from US!! Hooray for Danny Devito!!

  • We drive EVs every day, if GM hadn't killed the EV1, we would still be driving it!

  • liberals are idiots. the money could be better spent elsewhere. Obama will have spent another trillion on expanding government by the time I'm done typing this because he's a radical socialist and idiot.

  • Brent there is a sports car, entirely electric, called the Tesla Roadster. Check it out. The technology is there. You're talking to an electrical engineer whose main focus is power/control engineering... exactly the kind of engineering required to create electric cars. Soooo, don't think you'll outsmart me.

  • also have you seen the cost of the Tesla roadster? we only have so much minerals and raw materials on this planet, we don't have enough material to put every truck and suv and car on the road with a battery or electric motor, there isn't enough copper and other metals, even with advanced recycling, we simply can't do it, the cost will become too high (due to metal costs for components) also think of the strain this will have on the electric grid? we already have problems with out cars added on

  • What does the Tesla have to do with the EV1?? Danny's EV1 was already built, they could have just left it alone. Nickel and lead are cheap and recycle.

  • There are other ways of generating electricity.

  • You are, with all due respects, an idiot. The battery is here; why do you think GM crushed them?? It was to try to hide the evidence that EVs work with NiMH or lead batteries.

  • the battery range is not there, tell me what the range on these EV's are? also they crushed them to hide them? really? well i guess Chrysler crushed all there 1963 Gas turbine cars because that technology was capable for the roads as well?, and the oil companies wanted the gas turbines destroyed because they would reduce fuel consumption? well in all truth the turbine cars actually ate a lot of fuel vs. conventional engines, your speculation is just a far fetched conspiracy theory

  • Bren, you are an idiot. The battery is here, now; we drive on them every day, the Toyota RAV4-EV. They killed the EV1 for money, GM and Chevron.

  • also Chrysler made 50 Turbine cars in 1963 for the general public to test (much like the EV's) and guess what? after the trial period Chrysler crushed them all down (i think only 2 remain, much like the GM EV) a few remained, they where concept cars that the public tested nothing more nothing less, the range wasn't there for the EV's and the cost was too high, (look GM is making the new Volt) what more do you need? the EV was blown up in this film, in all truths it was a short range vehicle

  • and thats the real problem. if eletric cars really work than we should see then also here in europe. Why PSA or VAG doesnt made one? Because technology sucks even today.

  • finally someone with some brains, everyone thinks we are in a George Jetson age, technology still sucks when it comes to electric motors and batteries, that's why the only practical electric car is a toy RC car, also solar panels will not and can not charge a electric cars batteries, that is total bullshit, unless you want a car 10 feet wide and 30 feet long, it won't work, it doesn't help we have moronic hollywood telling the people what to think, that is where most of our troubles come from

  • Both PSA and VAG made electric vehicles. They are used by local councils across Britain and Western Europe. Volkswagen made the "Citystromer" based on the MK3 Golf and PSA made electric Berlingo and Partner Vans, as well as electric 106s, AXs and Saxos. Renault also made electric Clios as well as Express and Kangoo vans.

Lots of these vehicles are in daily use today.

  • if you werent such narrow minded , you would know that electric car ,bus and trucks are use all around the world ,even here(Canada).effeciante battery were design but patent were bought buy oil Cie.

lithium and carbonite battery with high recharging performance cannot even advertise in USA!!wake-up you are ruled by oil and will die by it!what's the biggest sign of a fallen empire; when its start to fall from the interior!!better learn chinese/cantonese ASAP!

  • no, we have the technology. they dont want electric cars because there is still plenty of profit to be made from selling gasoline. dont be a moron.

  • I have been wondering for about 5 minutes where I've heard this guy's voice before, then I remembered. He played Rocks in Look Who's Talking Now. He's a great guy, very awesome unique voice too.

  • dammit hes related to me :((((((((((

  • actually there is retooling, and you know how many people will lose there jobs at casting factories and transmission factories? lots will, including exhaust tubing plants and spark plug factories and all the components of the gas or diesel engine, and the ac and heat will be powered by the battery? last time i checked battery tech was not up to par to run a car let alone run a ac unit or heater which would eat a killer amount of energy, plus run lights and onboard computer and radio etc etc

  • Just on the job point: Isn't that a weak argument in the long way? If the advancement in technology should be stopped because jobs will be lost, there are countless off things we still should produce that we gave up because techonology went on.

  • well you can tell that too all the employees of those companies that make internal combustion engine parts, shifters, transmissions, rear ends, spark plugs, air filters, oil filters, also the fluids those engines run on like anti freeze and the refined oil for the engine, and there is many more items that would be cut, our economy can't handle job loss at the current rate of decline, let alone phasing out internal combustion parts, the economy would not handle that kind of blow

  • "you can tell that to"? What's up with that, trying to win my sympathy? If we don't need the shit they are making anymore it's just idiocy to keep making it for the sake of preserving jobs. Might as well give them jobs piling boxes of air. When the battery engines become a better option over internal combustion, they will sell better and those people will loose their jobs anyway, so the discussion is useless either way.

  • why develop electric cars, when we got something so good as the internal combustion engine, the money wasted on electric cars could be spent other places, you think its alright to put millions out of work? really? in the economy we are in right now? and the Liberals where elected too get us out of this economic depression? really? i always thought when people lost there jobs, people spend less, then more people lose there jobs, its a spiral into a depression

  • You're a dumbass. The internal combustion engine is NOT eco-friendly. The Earth is more important than our economy for one, and two, developing electric engines could bolster our economy numbnuts.

  • is tht the only argument you have? jesus its better to have a clean planet than a dirty one with those combustion engines tht pollute the air

  • answer me this, what do you drive? i bet it runs on gas!, and clean planet? better than a dirty one? really? cars have been around for 100 years and i don't see a dirty planet, and let me guess you want to save the planet from globull warming doomsday! which is a total farce, the sun is connected with climate (google sunspots and climate change), why was the co2 levels higher in the prehistoric eras than right now? did Dinosaurs drive Land Rovers?

  • theres a long list, one not every one lives in warm and sunny California, there is no heat in a electric car, trust me i live in Ontario Canada, second how do you have air conditioning in a electric car?oh and another great point the batteries would be dead from extreme cold up here in Canada and the east coast and Alaska, and the cost of infrastructure would be a huge switch over, and mechanics and garages that have tools and equipment would have huge retooling costs, oh and electric sucks

  • And now those companies need some billions...

  • I always mess up this guy with that other guy from Lethal Weapon movies and Home Alone movies lol

  • Joe Pesci?

  • Jepp xD

  • I missed that car!! SOB oil companies! I had some D's on my ev1

  • THE OIL COMPANIES DID ! + GM !!!

  • EVERYTHING and EVERYBODY must SERVE the gods at the STANDARD OIL MONOPOLY!

  • If I was Danny DeVito I'd grow a long beard, braid it, and carry an axe everywhere. That'd be so awesome.

  • you play world of warcraft. dwarf.

  • one thing to say...bet you have a small dick and are praying no women notice....my 2000 Ford Ranger EV NiMH has more torque...is far rarer...and does not need fuel we hand money to foreign countries for...wouldn't be shocked if you are voting for McSAME

  • you probably don't fix them yourself...an EV is fun to repair...you don't need to! Not even an oil change!

PS..the sound costs you money...and future humans/animals their lungs.

    DEATH to the ICE

  • hahaha dumb ass...

  • i love danny devito

  • Joker,PENGUIN,Catwoman,Riddler,Two Face

  • Every assumption about Electric cars these days are 90% wrong.

there 0-60's are comparable to gas cars.

there charge range is comparable to an ecno car.

Further more, since it gets charged at your house, It more then handles day to day driving.

There in fact cheaper to make then gas cars, at present the only think making them expensive is demand and initial startup as with ALL CARS.

90% of the people who drive to and from work every day can fully utilize an electric car without limitations.

  • Actually, the 0-60 time can EASILY be much quicker on an all electric car :) But I know what you are saying. Look at all the people who drive a car daily just to go to work in some office. The range of the EV1 could easily have commuted people to work and back on a single charge. It makes me sick, most people are looking at the Chevy VOLT as GM's first electric car, and it's a hybrid with less range than their EV1 made 10 yrs ago! WTF? Keep them oil companies happy GM!

  • exactly, the space that will be taken up by the gas tank and the same i.c. engine that was in the geo metro that runs a generator now could hold plenty of batteries to give the volt the tesla roadsters advertised range.

  • Yup. We're being scammed by big companies and corrupt government. People are converting their own cars successfully. Maybe someday I'll have one. :)

  • @TBSSage I agree. The logical thing would be to own an electric car for day to day use, and rent a gas driven car if you plan on driving long distances.

  • @TBSSage

    You missed the big one!

Every time you put your foot on the brake with the elec car, you RE-charge the system, instead of just heating up the Earth, as a 'normal' gas car does!

  • @TBSSage

a few things. first, though they will get cheaper in time, an EV you can practically use every day now is at least $40K. secondly. they have no tailpipe emissions, but much of the power comes from power plants that burn coal and oil, and the cars are pretty dirty to make. Lastly, if you are going on a longer trip, say, LA to Vegas, the car probably wont make it, and if you forget to plug it in at night, you're stuck. There are drawbacks to EVs still, but it will get better in time

  • 1 wrong, some are faster than petroleum cars

    2 wrong, rechargeable while driving

3 wrong, if mass produced it would be half the cost of petrol gas cars

  • bts71 thanx for clering things out for me

i feel very nooby for what i have writen

any way thenx for the update ^_^

  • you dumb a.. you haven't seen the videos on here of the ev1 smoking the miata and 300z or the one that smoked the ferarri and porsche have you?

  • no i haven't

    is it called ev1?

  • just type 'ev1 drag race' there isn't any sound but that clip is also on 'who killed the electric car?'. another good clip on here is 'electrc cars in california 3/3' it has an older datsun electric drag racecar called the 'white zombie' that can smoke vipers and vettes.

  • PETROLEUM

  • If GM had contintued the EV1 and not killed it, they would be doing much better in sales than they are now. We would probably be looking at the next generation EV1 now. The EV1, now, would be selling more than the Prius, which is also a great car.

  • thats all we need (liveoilfree) is the goverment

to "make" car companies build ele cars , so they "goverment " can give money to non rich people ,

so they can buy them , why don't we just ele the goverment you give me the money to buy a hybride car ? HOW ABOUT WE GET RID OF BIG GOVERMENT , AND LET FREE ENTERPRIZE (SUPPLIE AND DEMAND )

  • lol , people love it , no Hollywood millionairs

love it , you and I could not aford to own this

car . ev1 great idea , could never understand . they spent millions making the movie , take that money invest in tesla motors , stop complaning and help make it happen . Gm doesn't have to make a eletric car , shell doesn't have to make gasoline , we can't tell a company to make a product, we can invest in companys that want to make things we want !!!

  • Actually, there were state subsidies that made it possible for lower-income people to buy the EV1, if it had been for sale; but instead, we used it to help purchase the Toyota RAV4-EV, which is still running fine on its 2002 NiMH battery pack.

  • Actually, there were subsidies that allowed lower-income folks to purchase it, IF gm had ever offered it for sale -- but LYING GM never would sell it.

  • all the good stuff went into arnold swazznergar all the shit stuff went into danny devito

  • Watch "Who killed the Electic car"! Maybe the cars are not so practical, in your opinion. But some people loved it and was forced to give it back. Later on most of those cars, if not all, were destroyed. And why? No one knows 4 sure, except the car industry. And keep in mind that those cars had an incredibly potential if they had only been allowed to evolve. They weren't...

  • my last comment was for "grastog1313" three comments down.

  • Oil corporations killed it, what else?

  • WATCH AMER0

  • I don't believe the electric car is dead; it is simply not yet practical on a large scale. Eventually it will be. In the meantime, hybrid cars (gasoline/electric) are huge energy savers and cost savers. They also enjoy tax credits in the U.S.

  • Wow! what a novice wage earner

  • hes awesome

  • TAXI on - increase life on Earth!

  • I sent you my solar powered pontoon boat make sure you look for part two. Does this guy look like Richard Dreyfus or what?

  • Who killed your car? It was the people who stood to lose money. Car makers (slim margins), maintanince (like car dealers) and spare parts companies, government (fuel tax) and fuel providers (oil). See the film "Who Killed The Electric Car" for more details. I could just cry.

  • Are there ANY EV1s left on the roads in America today?? Please let me know

  • none...the people who had them could only lease it. that was the only option availbe for them.

  • Because of LYING GENERAL MOTORS.

  • bfd

  • "In searching for a new enemy to unite us we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like, would fit the bill."--Club of Rome members Alexander King and Bertrand Schneider in their book 'The First Global Revolution'

  • Great video. Check out what the EPA called the "most energy efficient, environmentally clean, and cost-effective" systems available. Geothermal heat pumps burn no fossil fuels, are 5 times more efficient than gas furnaces, and reduce utility bills up to 70%.

It's equal to planting 750 trees or taking 2 cars off the road... Forever. If 10% of California goes geo, the energy saved equals the output of 9 power plants! Geo could have a huge impact on the environment and dependence on foreign oil.

  • Check out my solar powered prius video. 70 MPG and if you do less than 6 miles per day and 42mph you never have to buy gas or plug in again.

  • "In searching for a new enemy to unite us we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like, would fit the bill." -- Club of Rome members Alexander King and Bertrand Schneider in their book 'The First Global Revolution'

  • GREAT! GREAT! GREAT! Wake Up America. WE did not hear about the untimely demise of this car. We did not hear that President Carter installed Solar panels in the White House and which were subsequently removed by the almost impeached Richard Nixon. We are not hearing about a lot of things that we should be hearing about because all we want to hear about is celebrities. YES the dumbing of America is alive and well. DEMAND MORE.

    2008 DENNIS KUCINICH 2008

  • I say fuck the oil companies! next time your going to buy a new car... DONT. just conver an old car to electric with the money and be saving for the future. sounds good to me :)

  • If you use an electric car they can't charge you a carbon TAX! Carbon Tax- Carbon Tax- Carbon Tax- Carbon Tax!!!!!! Think before you ask these Questions!!!!!

  • tesla makes a 90,000 roadster that gets 200 miles per charge. soon they will have a 1000 mile per charge car and who wants to use gas. but the millions of environmentals dont line up to buy one.

  • obviously there is a lot of money to be made from electric cars too. lol but there is no problem, when the chinese start producing massively electric cars they need the oil and engine industry will not be able to find a hole to put their heads... its a matter of time friends.

  • comments directed to leeraconteur

  • now as to the limited range of 300 miles per charge that is more than enough for me to get to school, work, friends houses to have my car charge while at said places. You dont have to drive an EV but dont stop people that want to drive and own an EV.

  • Can I adopt this guy to be my father?

  • Such a pity the EV1's gone while the demand is still there. I'm glad Tesla is starting production soon. Looks like EV's will be here years before hydrogen too.

  • The movie "Who Killed the Electric Car?" was both sad and enlighening.... Highly recommended.

  • ever hear of solar, that's what i'd do if I had one, put a few solar panels up connected to the charging system

  • Solar is a very good idea. As well as other CO2 friendly ways of producing energy like Solar, Wind and Hydro.

The problem with using solar for a car is unless you live somewhere with allot of sun like California or Spain, you're not going to get very miles. plus the number of solar panels needed to power a car would be about 3X the size of the car and it would cost $100,000 to buy new.

  • The better solution would to have a car, like an EV1 and to have solar and wind generator on you're house. then you could become CO2 friendly...

  • you had an ev1, lucky f($K

  • Bollocks, even the best Hybrid cars can't match a turbo diesel for MPG.

E.G. a Toyota Prius will do at maximum of 52mgp in normal driving conditions.

A VW Polo 1.4 TDi will get something like 70mpg, as well as put less CO2 into the atmosphere. But I'm guessing the thought of having a car with an engine less than 250ci in capacity would make most Americans feel a bit lacking...

  • Deisel is not an option for the American market on a mass scale because they pollute too much at ground level. Yes they put less CO2 in our higher atmosphere but the health effects at ground level make it a non option. Driving through France I feel at times like I can't breath, and the village buildings along the roads blacken. The U.S. has as many people as all of Europe but more drive. Can you imagine the smog of and filth of all deisel L.A.? It's just not an option.

  • The trucks, Trains and buses use diesel. But what i meant was there are many options to traveling, people can cycle into town, hell they could even walk.

Whats going to happen is people are going to have to live in small community's like in the middle ages. with only the very richest will be able to travel far distances.

  • If you really think that Americans are going to restructure their sprawling comunities and give up their mobility to travel distances, you haven't thought this through.

Yes, walking and riding a bike is a good idea, but your adressing the land of the fat-asses. It has to be a technological solution for Americans or they'll just turn earth into a shit-hole before giving up their comforts and freedoms.

Hybrids are the best 'transitional' technology at present.

  • I would agree with that, but you have to admit they aren't the answer...

    Anyway, what do you drive?

  • I have never owned a new car, but instead own small economical hatchbacks. In Maine I drove a Ford Festiva, here in the Alps I drive a Toyota Starlet (given to me). My cars have always been for functionality and saving money. The electricty here is hydro, so an electric would be nice, but I also need my next car to be 4x4 as the mountains demand it.

  • Portland Maine, U.S. where I used to live, did at one point have a charming trolly system like San Francisco. This was done away with probably by the auto industry which was systematically buying up and dismantling public transport in the U.S. to drive up the need for an automobile. If cities would start to bring things like this back, urban transport would be a lot better in many ways.

  • When I lived in a city some would transport on bikes, I chose a skatboard to go to and from office. If you think a bike is dangerous in the city, try a skateboard with no brakes. I would only use a skateboard for transport but still had to deal with the police on many occasions stopping me. I would say, 'you prefer I pollute and add to traffic congestion than ride my plank of wood?'

  • how do you expect me to transport my wife and kids, one of those 4 person bikes????

  • Can't they just re-release the Hydrogen fuel cell car?

  • The problem with Hydrogen at the moment is that.

    A) it cost 100X what gas costs at the moment

    B) there's no good way of making Hydrogen (as most of it is already mixed with O2, making water)

    C) how will the big oil companies (would are the only people who have the resources) make money out of a fuel thats basically water?

  • vatfa

  • Electric cars WILL replace ICE cars, its just a matter of time. Electric motors capable of incredible power output are already available (500+ HP, 67 kg ). Combustion engines will NEVER be even remotely capable of approaching this level of power density/ power to weight ratio, regardless of what modifications you think you can do. Above all that there is the issue of efficiency where the electric motor wins hands down.

  • This has been addressed. The weight of the batteries and motor is greater than that of an ICE with radiator, gas tank and gasoline of comparable HP.

Then the batteries last only 120,000 miles and need to be completely replaced at a cost of $5,000 or more.

The range is limited. The conversion steps add MORE pollution, not LESS.

  • what type of pollution are you refuring to because EV's have a 99%reduction of pollution even if you get your electricity from a coal fired plant compared to burning an average if 15 gallons of gasoline per tank

  • Thank you for adding!

  • The U.S. is BIG. How big? Driving from Coast-to-Coast is the same as driving from Berlin, Germany to Tashkent, Capital of Uzbekistan.

When Eurasia has a pan-continent rail system to all cities...

  • Haha, Danny Devito, I remember seeing him in some of those movies. What's he talking about here though, something about cars, or the environment that cars create or something?

But hey, I really want you just to know that I've actually seen a witch! Yeah, it's a real witch. And I caught it on camera! Look at it under my account, alright? Just under my "lindaerrol" account on here. Trust me, it's a really astonishing video that I ended up getting.

  • hmmm heres a hint on who "killed" the electric car: they sucked cock and no one wanted one. big fuckin mystery.

  • mandate my asp,cantrol this bigbird,u r a dinosaur

  • cars and car lovers are unatural,i used to drive to all over london to hear the best music n meet good people..but most of the time the people i met either: lived near the venue, got a train, bus, bike etc or walked from a friends home or work.hardly anyone into cars bothered to drive to events, people too dull & pointless or ego trippin to do anything worthwhile with themselves..holy polaris batman!

  • Well, I live in The States, and England is the size of Louisiana. The U.K. is the size of Oregon. Then we have 46 other lower, contiguous states. The U.S. is too large for everyone to get about on buses and tubes.

  • Is he serious? Ok, not everyone uses their car just to go to the beach and back everyday. Some people have to drive many miles into a city in traffic to get to their job. Some other people need to carry stuff around in their car, and if you want to go a reasonable speed in an all-electric car you need less weight. So shut up, either go to a junkyard and get an all-electric OR get hybrid which can actually travel out of your garage without needing a recharge.

  • On the contrary, the oil corporations and the politicians are actually perpetuating the myth that there's nothing wrong.

They never discuss the issue. They have used any and every excuse under the Sun to justify war EXCEPT for fossil fuel depletion. The media love discussing "global warming" - citing problems 200 years from now - but NEVER mention fossil fuel depletion at all, though it's just decades away.

  • They actually are trying to pretend nothing's wrong and that oil isn't running out, so that they can continue to sell the trillions of dollars of oil trade that's still under the ground before it's all gone.

They should be telling you to increasingly get off fossil fuel usage as far as possible. But they are NOT. They are not even mentioning that there's a problem. Because they don't want to scare any paying customers away to alternatives, where they can't make money.

  • Your probably right. I also think there's oil for a lot of decades ahead and that this oil shortge doomsday thing is bullsh¼t. What I don't know is if we can handle the climatic changes that fossil fuel will impose in the next decades.

  • If we increasingly stop using fossil fuels then the climatic changes caused by them will be less.

If you don't believe that we can handle the climatic changes of the next decades caused by fossil fuels then you must help slow down and stop the use of fossil fuels.

I'm not telling you that oil's running out to make you buy it.

I'm telling you oil's running out so that - as far as possible - you get off fossil fuels, stay off fossil fuels and never go back to fossil fuels ever again.

  • Hey Youtube - I've been watching this debate for a few days on and off - the postings don't pan out in a truely legible order, is there a better way of logging the chat strands so we can see who is reacting to a comment and who is just posting a stand alone statement?

  • God, I can't even tell if you are joking.

  • The Volt is a 100% electric car, it just has a built in generator (small gas-powered engine) to extend the mileage past your daily commute. In theory, you could drive to work every day and never use the gas engine. This "never to be allowed again" line is laughable, considering how many are actually in the works.

  • Electric cars require more energy conversion steps, thus it takes more energy to propel one. Automotive engineers did the math in 1895 and realised that the Internal Combustion Engine was more efficient.

There is no conspiracy; this is just the 1st Law of Thermodynamics.

  • Hmmm, yes, I'm sure the battery technology in 1895 was as good as today's. What a joke.

  • Answer is: 100 trillion dollars left of oil in the ground... Ofcourse they killed the car which only ran on electric... Now trying with hydrogen, the thing is, it takes three times the energy to produce hydrogen compared to electricity.
