Triple Crown... Barbaro, Count Fleet, Man O' War..

Let's just settle this...everyone's fighting over who's better, Man O War, or Secretariat? well, they are both great horses, best of the best. Best racers we'll probably ever see. Secretariat is probably I better race horse than MOW, but why does it matter? I don't think its a competition, they were both great horses, and thats all. I personally like MOW a little better because my horse is his great,great,great,great,great granddaughter, and he was also the sire of SeaBiscuit.

@vaggieburger they both dominated their half of the century is the best way to put it. my appaloosa was also related to MOW :), IMO MOW is better for two reason.....1 - he carried more weight, sec probably could have but never did, 2 - he beat older horses, sec only ever raced horses of his own age. Those are also the two reasons why Blood Horse ranked MOW #1....both of them are SPECTACULAR

it's futile to compare horses from different eras,champs speak for themselves is it not enough to love them for the pleasure they gave us.

I think that Man O' War is the grestest horse of all time. He even won a race by 100 lenths! How is that possible? I can't imangine that... But thumbs-up to the other horses like Ruffian, Secretariat, Big Brown, Barbaro, Seabiscuit, Sir Barton, Eight Belles, Winning Colors, Citaton, Count Fleet, Cigar, Curlin and, Man O' War again!=]

Ruffian is my favorite filly of all time!=)

In fairness, the second horse in the Lawrence Realization was entered only as a favor in order to prevent a walkover, and it was well known by everyone, including his owner, that he was not even close to the same league as MOW. That is the main reason for the 100 length(est) loss.

@belleandkat MOW won by 100 lengths because the only other horse entered was a milkhorse. No owner wanted to race his horse against him, so they found a horse just so they could have a race (and money). Just an extreme example of how lengths won by is a very deceptive way to judge a horse's worth. MOW was great, but not because he won a race by 100 lengths.

The "Olympics" of all horse racing is The Triple Crown. And only 11 horses in history have accomplished that honor. And only 1 horse in history set 3 world records that have never been broken by any horse...Secretariat is the greatest race horse in history...followed by the 2nd greatest Man O'War. Secretariat is the King of all race horses..bar none. He even beat MOW's records in the Preakness & Belmont. No horse in history has ever matched the great Secretariat and few have even gotten there.

@cmf4321 You are ever so right But MOW may not have been second best. I bet Dr. Fager could beat him in a mile race & Buckpasser. The Bid in a 1 1/4 race easy. Easy Goer, Kelso & Swaps could have beaten him in many distance races IMO. Yelp, Secretariat was no doubt the greatest of all time. Many that seen both said Secretariat was better.

Man O War didn't run in the Derby out of strictly political reasons involving Riddle (his owner) and the Derby... He would have (without question), won the triple crown if it had as much meaning then as it did now.

The 2008 Belmont, one of the most obivoue fixes you will ever see.

They had the perfect built in excuse...just make sure he finishes out of the money.There was nothing wrong with the horse at all.He was actually ticked off waving his head around cause he wanted to run.I will put it to you this way,all those that boxed him as a victory and all those that lost straight..losttheir money to Belmont Park, just a typical New York race track. Give me a break. I mean who could blame him after 8bells.

Well weird things have happened on New York tracks to heavy favorites on NY tracks. Going clear bacl to MOW at the 1919 race at Saratoga, to Spectacular Bid stepping on a pin, to Secretariat losing twice in 73, one to Onion at Saratoga nd theother at Belmont to Prove Out.

And now the 1-5 Big Brown.

Very nice video, welcome newbie to racing. Man O' War never raced in the Derby because his owners didn't believe in racing a 3yr old that early in the year. And those were just 3 races--calling them The TC didn't exist in 1920 so the added incentive to go wasn't there. And can you imagine the trip? Long train ride rom the Northeast to KY in 1919!

that maks no difference because everyone knows that he would hav won if he entered the kentucky derby and he destroyed sir. barton a triple crown winner he won 20 out of 21 starts he once won a race by 100 leangts and the race he lost they opened the gate when he was faced the wrong way and ran away from the race then he turned around and lost by a nose if you want to know more about Man O' War read the book Man O' War by walter farley

Lovely video. My only comment is that the front horse in the "War Admiral" photo is actually Seabiscuit. War Admiral is behind him; it's the match race in which Seabiscuit defeated War Admiral.
