The "Crossroads" can be interpreted as many different things, but I see it as the point when an artist, or any person, finds they have to sacrifice passion for profit. Rarely do you get both at the same time, and often, after some people make this decision, they will spend a life time trying to retrieve the passion they lost for the art form they now profit from.
