I don't think this is either a glitch or a defective cd because mine did the same thing. what you have is a misprint and that in reality is something to have actually.

The 'dou' simply means 'how', you're possibly thinking of the kanji but i'm pretty sure you'll only see that in compound words such as 'daiseidou' = 'cathedral' or 'shokudou' = 'cafeteria'. Judging by the English translation I am almost certain that the first square should be 'mise' = shop(s) which is perhaps the mention of a building you're looking for. I'm not sure what the second square should be, only that it is part of a verb ending in 'u', 'tsu' or 'ru' (not 'miru').
The part '(?) tte mitara' translates as 'if (you) try (?)ing' or 'if you give (?)ing a go'. You're kind of right about the 'kana' being 'I wonder' but in this case it just serves to make the suggestion less direct or part of a train of thought and is rarely translated so simply into English. So a slightly more literal breakdown may read something like...
'If (you) were to try (?)ing the (shops?) for the time being, how would that be I wonder?'

Couple possibilities, there, that will cause problems like this - first, are you using a modded PS2 to play the game? Even if you're using a legit copy of the game, it's possible a modded PS2 will bring results like this about. Also, which version of the PS2 are you using it on (Slim/Fat)? I've noticed there's some slight lag with the sound effects and music (especially when in Kendo practice) in Persona 3 FES, for example, when playing on the Fat PS2. Also, if you're using Gameshark...

Nah, it probably means the same thing. Japanese doesn't have question marks. Instead you can usually tell when its a question when they place a "ka" at the end of a sentance. But man, that is wierd. Atlus must have overlooked it or something.
It's minor, but the Japanese major in me feels like making a slight correction, so don't take it as an insult. :) Ka only appears at the end of a sentence to indicate a question when the speaker is being formal/polite. Otherwise, like English, it's purely intonation that indicates whether a sentence is a question or not. That would be the case in the video's sentence, as the lady is speaking pretty informally in that instance, even if the Kanji is literally blocked out.
And just to finish up what I'm saying, colloquial Japanese is known to use question marks when written. Again, doesn't really happen with formal/polite mode, but you'll find it quite a bit in informal/casual instances.

True, but by reading the hiragana, it doesn't end in deska. The sentence ends with doukana. In fact, I don't see deska anywhere in that sentence. Therefore, I think this was a forgotten translation.
Well, it's not like you are going to find a interesting dialogue in that sentence. Remember mistakes are often made, just like P4 storyline which was dissapoiting.
its the same sentence, except that the japanese on top is missing 'store' (o-mise) and the word for look, which would be in those square boxes. also question marks aren't used in japanese writing. the line on the top ends with 'dou ka na' which is like a marker for a question being asked
The Hiragana showed up fine because Hiragana and Katakana are a part of standard unicode. Kanji is not though and has it's own font display set. That set was likely removed from the English version of the game, therefore could not be called for that sentence.
I can, as a little laugh at the silly americans, who'll think they made a mistake. Or maybe there was one translator and a lot of testers who missed their coffee.

It basically says the same thing, more or less.
In the japanese sentence it says "in any case, why dont you try to look around....i wonder...." (literally translated)
so its more or less the same. In my version, it didnt have this, so i think yours is defective...

Otherwise, like English, it's purely intonation that indicates whether a sentence is a question or not. That would be the case in the video's sentence, as the lady is speaking pretty informally in that instance, even if the Kanji is literally blocked out.

And just to finish up what I'm saying, colloquial Japanese is known to use question marks when written. Again, doesn't really happen with formal/polite mode, but you'll find it quite a bit in informal/casual instances.

that isnt entirely true. They do have question marks, and it is true that "ka" represents a question. The person in the game is saying "kana" which is basically saying "i wonder".... which isnt a question which is why it doesnt have a question mark.

but japanese doesn't have question marks in it so i would assume that the sentance above is the same as the one below and in japanese language they use "Deska" for a question mark

True, but by reading the hiragana, it doesn't end in deska. The sentence ends with doukana. In fact, I don't see deska anywhere in that sentence. Therefore, I think this was a forgotten translation.

There was a similar mistake in Persona 3 in the weapons shop. I don't remember how to view it though so you'll have to look it up on youtube.

Well, it's not like you are going to find a interesting dialogue in that sentence. Remember mistakes are often made, just like P4 storyline which was dissapoiting.

its the same sentence, except that the japanese on top is missing 'store' (o-mise) and the word for look, which would be in those square boxes. also question marks aren't used in japanese writing. the line on the top ends with 'dou ka na' which is like a marker for a question being asked

The reason that the words for o-mise and o miru are missing is because they likely involved the kanji
I kinda find it odd that the Hiragana showed up just fine though. I think it's just the same sentence though >_>

The Hiragana showed up fine because Hiragana and Katakana are a part of standard unicode. Kanji is not though and has it's own font display set. That set was likely removed from the English version of the game, therefore could not be called for that sentence.
