The comments on here are pathetic. "GOD SAVED HIM DERP DERP DERP" ...Yeah ok...people get rehabilitated from drug use all of the time (including myself), and I dont see where "god" comes into play. Oh yeah, I get it. The diety that has 0 imperical evidence, can not be seen or touched, a fairy tale dictator is what helped josh hamilton get sober...yeah ok..
Also, there are plenty of good people who aren't religious who make good life choices unlike him. Just because he's discovered God he makes this statement 9:27 very narrow-minded of him.
I don't he was ever this wholesome young kid he portrayed himself to be before the drugs. That was just for the book. It's not like a normal kid regularly hangs out at a tattoo parlor getting tattooed. He makes it sound like it was some benign thing hanging out with the crowd he did at a tattoo parlor.
@vinweasel928 Hey, I can see not liking the team, and crack kills...no doubt about it, but this man's skills and numbers have nothing to do with him recovering from an addiction and finding Christ. Please have some respect.
Josh says he took "personal leave" without notifying anyone. When I was in the military that was called AWOL and my butt would been in the stockade. Glad to see someone believed in Josh and gave him the chance to get his life in order not only for baseball fans and/or himself but mostly for his family. We got your back Josh as long as you TRY to fly right.
really mattbnugka....not to sound unkind...but you are calling him a liar and furthermore you are presenting an entirely different argument...obviously we dont want to teach do what you want and then an invisible man will bail you out...however...you are obviously uninformed...are you really that smart...i am an intellectual and former skeptic...are you young...I mean I am..31...but you havent had much experience...and if you rebuke me...ill listen and review it...and go on and in peaceful sleep
I love that Larry said "It'd be nice to be with them today." when he mentioned the Devil Rays. Josh knows that if God believes he's ready for success it will happen, and guess what? it has. Keep on your path Josh, you will be a great example for God!
It's just sad, and frankly kind of scary, that kids will look up to him, and some may even think he got to where he is because of god. Why not teach kids work ethic, diligence, persistence... science. Why cloud their mind with INSANE (literally, if u believe in an invisible man that can read all of our thoughts) christian propaganda. It's fine that all u common people who will never amount to anything or have any influence on the real world believe... but JESUS leave my IDOLS out of it...
@mattbnugka your saying that if your a christian you don't use "work ethic, diligence, persistence"? i am a college baseball player and a christian. I use these things you hold true to. If anything being a christian is hard. You make our faith out to be some simple thing. When in fact we focus on our faith and the rest of life. I am in no way saying we are better than anyone or anything like that so don't try and make the christian faith to be a group who has no work ethic.
I'm a hardcore rangers fan, and I love josh as a player. As a person tho... I wish he could be a strong enough person to persevere without "jesus christ." He was strong enough to become one of the best players in baseball, but not beat alcoholism. It's so strange that I can turn down any types of drugs (I used to be an addict) but I can't bring myself to work hard enough to pursue my dreams. All u whacko christians posting below me... I just can't imagine a sentient being beliving that garbage..
Interesting to watch Josh's body language here. Swaying back and forth in his rotating chair. He was obviously uncomfortable for some reason. Whether he's uncomfortable talking about his past, or nervous because he was on live radio, I'm not sure. But he was obviously uncomfortable during this interview.
i live in raleigh where hes from and have heard from friends he still does this shit and that he ued god as a way to get his shot back. Hopefully mlb isnt just protecting him ie covering his habbit up. I dont think he was a goody tooshoo if hes hanging out at a tattoo club. and i guarantee it wasnt his first time to a strip club. quit lying
Can't believe that anyone could bash him. Its amazing what he had been through, from a hotshot out of high school, all of a sudden getting this popularity and fame, and went down a wrong road. Lucky enough, he was able to fight through it, and was able to recapture that talent, and is now again putting up amazing numbers. If anyone is feeling like they can't do anything, or something is too much, just remember Josh's story, and know you can do anything
@4thandinches His wife probably doesn't like tattoos because most every tattoo Josh Hamilton has was done when he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs....Jerk.
I like Josh Hamilton a lot, and am still upset that the Reds traded him. I also appreciate his candidness in this interview, but do not chew gum while someone is interviewing you. That is trashy and disrespectful.
God has a different plan from him playing for tampa bay........ God must be a rangers fan... god is just so humble he never lets them even get 2 the world series

Rescued by jesus ?? Im not into jesus..one bit...you want see me fooling around behind my wifes back with 3 skanks at a bar with a little kid at home
Talk is cheap...who cares if he's into jesus or not..it's the actions you take that matter.
And if he as jesus and ended up fooling around on his wife with a young child at home..id rather not have him ...so why dont you WAKE UP...Nobody can save you but YOU
Are we going to point out every mistake he makes for the rest of his life? He will continue making mistakes just like all of us. Josh was drunk when this happened. I know being drunk is bad, but this did influence his poor judgement.
There's no denying that Josh's story is incredible, from being a drug addict and lost in life to finding Jesus and now the Rangers #3 hitter. Josh's own wife even forgave him for his actions, and I can gaurantee you his wife knows him better than us.
What he did was wrong, but you can still be drunk and hold a whipped cream can. He knew what he did was wrong, and his wife forgave him and still loves him, and she knows him best. She even wrote something online about it.
Everyone makes mistakes, and he made an unfortunate one last Janurary. No human is perfect, just God. From what I've seen and read about him, he is a great, nice, honest guy, that battles temptation and addiction. To this point, he has handled it great. We all mess up.

He wasn't tanked...He likes the ladies and the entire party scene and everything that comes with it
You don't need a bar or 3 skanks to have drinks..he could have popped into a store grabbed a few six-packs or whatever....But that would'nt involve girls
He cheated on his wife...what a great guy...And no kidding his wife said she forgave him to the media...whats the point in telling them she was really hurt by it ? they would never leave her or her family alone
Great and nice honest guys don't cheat on their wives...explain what is so great about that ? This guy has made a million mistakes...and everybody just keeps forgiving him like he's a victim
He chose to do drugs, drink, and everything else...yup what a great guy
If this guy had a regular job nobody would be making all these excuses for him
@tday34 yes im an idiot lol what does that make a guy who almost flushed his 10 million dollar a yr baseball career down the toilet ? cheated on his wife and ignored his kids HAHAHA and got a zillion tats on him some of which are offensive
oh but he found god lol so it's all good....now he can do whatever he wants and just repent when he messes up
@ColdDish1 It is hard to understand the forgiveness of God. We screw up; we aren't perfect, but we weren't created to be. If he was jonsin for a beer and bought a six pack went home and had a beer and slipped...thats much different..
I disagree. My personal opinion is that he thought he could have a beer or two, then he got drunk and was all caught up in the bad behavior. I'm not him, so I won't know for sure.
Still, his story is amazing. Addicts usually have relapses, could be from drugs to beer or whatever. Its amazing how far Josh has already come, that one slip up will not change my opinions on him. So many people say how nice of a guy he is, and I'm so happy he found God and made it this far. Everyone slips up.
More and more people in the spotlight are coming to Christ.. this is awesome. I believe we are in the final days, people need to hear the gospel and I thank God that he chooses people like Josh to spread the word since he has so much influence on everyone.. especially kids. Praise God.
A special kudos for him saying: "Religion and having a relationship with Christ are two totally different things". Amen to that. Way to discern between the two. My prayers and blessings to Josh and everyone like him! Keep growing! God is faithful!
So he had a slip. Who cares? It was a one time event that never developed into a full relapse. If you've ever known anyone who's battled alcohol or drug addiction, you'd know it's a very difficult sickness to beat (and it really is a sickness). Most people who try to recover hit stumbles like this.
in his book he says he'd be afraid because while he was playing, his cocaine would be in his locker in his jeans and he was afraid a clubhouse attendant would accidentally find it, but here he says he never used while playing???
I believe he gave a cliff's notes answer there. He had never used when baseball was in his life. But in the book, it talks about him not being able to play for an extended period of time after the accident. And he kept using to the point that he then did fully become an addict. And at the point he was using on the field, is the point he didn't care anymore. Its hard to sum up 7 years in 250 pages, let alone say everything right in a 20 minute interview, ya know?
