Saw them on this Tour at the Oakland Coliseum. Stole the show from the likes of AC/DC, Aerosmith and Ted Nugent. Was my first Rock Concert. Awsome show and one of the best I've seen or remember...lol
Nice, thanks! I saw him at Alberta Jam in 1978, wasnt close enough, he was but a speck in the distance. A few years later I was driving at highway speed in the winter while listening to him do one of his big solos. I hit some black ice and my car started into a wild spin and then hit a big snow bank in the ditch and snow flying everywhere. At this same time this insane screaming fukin guitar solo going on. Now when I hear him I fell like spinning around and hitting the floor...laughs
thanx for your cool story.....i was lucky enough to see him last year in london ont. at the bluesfest....that was the first time since 1988 ! a 20 year gap between gigs! frank just gets better and better. russ
Oh yeah, I saw that 4-part show at the Convention Center in Indianapolis in 1980 Steve Mariot of Humble Pie told Wild Bill (a derelict who always stood in front of the stage at many shows back then) to put down his "throw me drumstick" sign or he was gonna come down off stage and kick his ass.
Thanks for the response! Yea, It was a Great Show. ANGEL stopped wearing all of the White on that tour & Punkly Meadows cut his hear shoulder length. I think ANGEL was managed by Toby Joseph back then. Rock on G - ROVER!
LOl... Did ya know Guiffria Is a Big Business Man In Vegas these days? He was in the Media a few years ago for the "Worlds Largest Ferris Wheel" he was going to build. Don't think it ever happened though.... Saw him cut all of Hair off on Fox TV abou a Decade plus a few...
Wow!!! Speed and control. There's only two guitarist that had that emotion and tone behind them when they play, Frank Marino and David Gilmour. One fast and one slow, but both having that emotion behind there playing. IMHO...peace!
What's interesting is that he's playing incredibly fast, but it's still melodic - unlike a lot of modern "shredders" who play fast but sound like they're playing scales.
Frank Marino deserves respect. I am not watching Jimi Hendrix or Jimmy Page. I am watching Frank Marino and I feel as good, If not better then I do watching the obvious choices. Frank Marino has got to be the most underated guitarist, composer and musican from his generation. I see it over and over within his video comments at Youtube and elsewhere. Frank Marino should have as many music awards as any professional guitarist alive. One of the founding fathers of true psycodelic rock.
yeah stigmakind ! they still rock eh! i saw them 3 weeks ago in london, ont! just getting better with age!frank will be touring western u.s.a. for the next few weeks. rock on! russ.
I saw Marino two years ago in L.A, first time , there was a wedding party after his show , they rushed him oput from the stage he was pissed. I think they disrespected him big time. But he stil gave us autography.
If you guys want to hear a GREAT live album, pick up Real Live, which Frank recorded in Montreal in September of 2001 (just a cuople days before Sept. 11, actually). It's a double CD and he just totally rips it up on it!
Frank's version of Johnny B. Goode is by far the most powerful and magic of all ever recorded, not to speak about "Who do you love" that makes original QMS fade away.
I've been listening to this nearly 30 years and it still gives me the same emotion of when I first heard it in 1978 on Mahogany Rush Live.
sure wish, there was more TRUE ARTISTS, like FRANK! he ROCKS- HE -RULES!!!! hands down, the BEST ROCK CONCERT- EVER RECORDED!!! anybody dissagree? rock on!!! russ.
that feedback at the start sends chills down my spine

I saw this tour. It bloodied my nose, changed the color of one iris, and cut my hearing to below 6000 Hz. Best night of my life.

Anybody catch the tour with Mahogany Rush, Angel, Humble Pie & Mothers Finest? Around 1980..
wakclips 2 years ago
Damn! "That' was a bill.
Sure wish I had, they were all managed by Leber and Krebs so that's why the package.
(not positive if Angel were managed by them though)

Yeah, I rember that era in angel's career, The rare "Bad Publicity" album that was recalled / renamed /reissued/new cover art as "Sinful".
Their 1st 2 albums are really good imo.
When they got more commercial it was kind of cheesy, but they always maintained a level of great musicianship.
Always liked Mother's Finest, 80's Pie were cool too.
GalaxyRover1020 2 years ago
Yea! Mother's Finest! I remember!
One funny thought about ANGEL Not Wearing the white Costumes anymore.
Just think how stained and hard to keep clean. it must have been a mess with all that R&R action! LOl...
wakclips 2 years ago
Lol, no shit.
I remember very well when they changed their image.
The chicks loved them, but (most ) guys weren't ready for the teased, poufed up hair, the white costumes.
Then a few yrs. later their look wound up being de rigueur with the 80's metal hair bands.
Ya know Punky Meadows actually had a hair spray endoresement back then!
When he was "done up' damn he really looked like a chick.
GalaxyRover1020 2 years ago
Yea Punky! Remember Baby Cakes (Zappa)?
Thanks for the Punky Meadows hair spray endoresement mention. I never New that. He had Killer Hair!
wakclips 2 years ago
Do you mean Frank Zappa's "Baby Snakes"?
I know Zappa wrote the song "Punky's Whips" about Punky.
It's off his "Zappa Live In New York' album.
Orig. it was left off ,but later reinstated on the cd version.
Funny song, evidently then Zappa drummer Terry Bozzio had a Punky fixation.
No doubt Punky, Greg Guifrria (sp) had great hair.

I knew he was in Las Wages, umm Vegas and was doing very well for himself + he cut off his mane.
Wasn't aware he cut it off on T.V.
Is there footage of this, would be curious to check it out.
GalaxyRover1020 2 years ago
I recorded it many moons ago. I don't think I have it
any longer. Did you know ANGEL has been touring with Stevie Blaze from Lillian Axe on Guitar. Originals- Frank-Vox & Barry/Drums are still there.
Lot of footage on line. I caught them on the West Coast a few years ago.

With all due respect to Chuck Berry, Frank Marino took this song and absolutely owned it!! The power and fury on display is awesome.
